They're a psychic race from the Psionics Handbook.

The elan were first seen in the Expanded Psionics Handbook which was published in Apr 2004.

Given the lead time for publishing the book, the name is a coincidence.

Especially since the description of the elan found in the XPH is nothing like the Elan we have come to know and love in OotS.

"Elan" is also a noun meaning style and flare, which would fit most bards pretty well. However, I think the Giant confirmed that this was a complete coincidence. The Giant also pronounces the name differently; elan is pronounced ey-lahn but Elan is ee-lin.

That creature comes from the XPH, which was published after the first OOTS.

And take a look at this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy,_Washington), guys. I think the Giant has some explaining to do when it comes to these names.

Well, it's pretty obvious that Pompey died here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0678.html), when Varsuvius erupted:smalltongue:

Plus it kinda looks like a star, that's shining more so than usual.

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

And, look! Roy means king! http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/roy

That's why he stole Xykon's crown!

Durcon Incorporated is the world's leading manufacturer of laboratory-grade work surfaces. And he heals people, just like medicines produced in a lab! Wink wink!

And what did Mr. Burlew want to use the comic to become?

Rich!

Xykon Consulting is a web page housing lots of slogans... and guess which undead overlord has also used fancy taglines for his corporation (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0446.html)?

Yuk Yuk's is a national comedy club chain in Canada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuk_Yuk's). Guess which character was mostly used for our continued amusement?

Trivia: "Celia" apparently means "heaven" in Latin. Celia is also the name of a movie about "An imaginative and somewhat disturbed young girl [who] fantasizes about evil creatures and other oddities to mask her insecurities while growing up in rural Australia."

Calling it now: The entire comic is all taking place in Celia's mind, a dream spawned from the desire to do something else than mindlessly guard a random rune in a dungeon all day. :D

Nice catch, I had never noticed the heaven thing - it would mean something like "celestial". Celia also means "joke" in Italian: is the whole comic a joke in Celia's mind? Or - gasp! - was her name foreshadowing of the phantasm?

Okay, now you're just being silly. It's obvious that "Nale" was a typo/writo and was suppose to be named "Male", after both his extreme masculinity and the mail. Notice: has anyone seen the mail and Nale together at the same time? No! Nale is not present when the Order is opening mail! That's because he is the male mail!

Now who's being silly? Clearly his name is "nail" as in "I'm going to nail that chick", because he's dating a succubus, who has sex all the time!
