If you need to make a caster level check to activate a scroll and you fail the check but succeed the wisdom check for mishap, what happens to the scroll? Is the spell expended? Or can you try again next round?

Your GM decides on an appropriate Scroll Mishap (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/scrolls.htm#scrollMishaps).

but what about when you dont have a mishap, there is a DC5 wisdom check, when you succeed this what happens?

If you fail the caster level check, and succeed on the Mishap check, then nothing happens. The scroll is still intact, and you can try to activate it again the next round.

I like that answer :)
Thank you!

Jeraa is right, but thought I'd post an excerpt from this Rules of the Game (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20041116a) article for reference:

If a scroll has a caster level higher than your own, you have to make a Spellcraft check (DC = 1 + the scroll's caster level) to activate the scroll. If you fail the check, you don't activate the scroll and the scroll isn't used up.
Of course Rules of the Game articles don't really count for RAW, but I think they're often helpful at understanding the mechanics of RAI.

They definitely don't count for RAW; why on earth does it say it's a Spellcraft check, when it's quite obviously a CL check? :smallannoyed:

Ha! Yeah, that's pretty funny; I didn't notice that.
