When I DM'd back in college I had a few CD's of good 'epic' music that added a nice ambiance to our D&D games. The soundtracks to the Hunt for Red October, and Conan come to mind.

Last night I found a really great group called Two Steps From Hell. Apparently they are a full orchestra lead by two composers that have found the market nitch of making music for movie and video game trailers. (http://www.youtube.com/user/TwoStepsFromTheMusic?feature=watch)

I am particularly fond of Heart of Courage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NGtL3HUPUo) and Protectors of the Earth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5Q_TSNk-p4).

If I was still DMing I'd grab one of their albums off iTunes or just use the YouTube playlist.

Anyway, I thought I'd pass it along.

Aw yeah, TSFH is awesome.

...Too awesome. To be honest, sometimes it is too epic for a mere bandit encounter. That's the time when I use soundtracks from Assassins Creed. Game of Thrones also comes to mind. I highly recommend you to listen to several compositions of Ramin Djawadi - they are very, very suitable for DnD. Witcher also has good soundtracks. (both parts)

Sometimes I even use usual nature sounds, some of which are produced by Adam Von Ziegler.

Yep, I like adding atmosphere to DnD. Players seem to enjoy it, since it helps immersing into the fantasy world.
