Working on a Construct Template for Pathfinder that was originally created for 3.0 by user named Uncle Festy in an old thread on here (Tears of Blood). I have tweaked it a little bit from the original and updated it with some excellent advice from here, but it may still need more work.

Any help is appreciated. And thanks to Uncle Festy, wherever he may be, for the original idea.

Dragonblood Construct

Dragonblood Constructs are powerful and versatile creations often employed by sorcerers and wizards for any number of different tasks. They are difficult and expensive to make, and often the creation process will fail, forcing the creator to start anew. Dragonblood Constructs are formidable opponents, and if the need arises to fight one, the battle should be undertaken with extreme caution.

Creating a Dragonblood Construct

Dragonblood Construct is an Inherited Template that can be applied to any Construct. It must be applied during the creation of the construct and requires the creator to expend additional materials and spells to complete the process. If a construct’s creator wishes to apply the Dragonblood Construct template to a construct, it must be decided before any work actually begins. Otherwise, the creation process must begin anew and the creator must pay for another half of the raw materials that would have been used to make the original construct.

Making a Dragonblood Construct requires a minimum of three pints of the blood of a true chromatic or metallic dragon, which are applied three times over an eight hour period to the body of the construct being created. The blood must be fresh, within a week of being drawn, or its inherent magic will be gone. Therefore, the creation process must be finished quickly. The exact amount of time until this occurs varies, roll d4+3 to find how long in days the blood will last. Dragon's blood is invariably difficult to procure, as dragons are often understandably unwilling to donate it. It can sometimes be found on the black market, although care must be taken that it is genuine. In general, blood from a more powerful dragon will yield a more powerful Dragonblood Construct.

In addition, the construct's eyes, if any, are replaced with two valuable replacements, which are inserted at the conclusion of the creation process. For constructs without eyes the replacements can be placed anywhere on the body. These "eyes" must be fashioned from specific gems or minerals as shown in Table: Gems/ Minerals Used in Construction. The exact type of gem or mineral is determined by the type of dragon whose blood is used to make the construct. The value of the replacements must be equal to 1000 GP x the Construct’s HD. These “eyes” must be etched with arcane runes that are successful if the creator makes two separate Craft: Jewelry checks (one for each “eye”), the DC is equal to 15 + (Construct's hit dice X 2).

A Dragonblood Construct will always have a mouth, even if one is not normally included in the base construct's design.

Table: Gems/ Minerals Used in Construction
Dragon / Gem
Black / Purple corundum
Blue / Blue sapphires
Green / Emeralds
Red / Star rubies
White / White opals

Dragon / Mineral
Brass / Pyrite
Bronze / Agate
Copper / Malachite
Gold / Platinum
Silver / Mithril

The creator must also cast a number of spells into the Construct in order for it to function properly. The spells depend upon the type of dragon whose blood is used to make the construct, and are listed in Table: Spells Used in Construction.

Table: Spells Used in Construction
Black: Acid Spray, Acid Fog
Blue: Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning
Green: Fog Cloud, Cloudkill
Red: Fireball, Fire Shield
White: Ice Storm, Cone of Cold

Brass: Fog Cloud, Symbol of Sleep
Bronze: Fog Cloud, Repulsion
Copper: Slow, Stone Shape
Gold: Ray of Enfeeblement, Symbol of Weakness
Silver: Hold Person, Fog Cloud

The total cost for creating a Dragonblood Construct, not including the cost of the dragon's blood or the eyes, is 10,000 gp for a medium-sized construct. For every size category larger than medium, increase the cost by 50%. For every size category smaller, decrease the cost by 25%. The cost of the eyes remains the same regardless of the size category.

The creator and a number of creatures they designate equal to one-half their caster level are immune to the Baleful Stare power of that specific Dragonblood Construct.

Size and Type: The construct's type does not change. However, it gains the Subtype [Augmented Dragon]. For the purposes of spells and effects that depend entirely upon creature type to function at all, it counts as both a Construct and a Dragon. However, for the purposes of spells that are more effective against certain creature types over others, it only counts as a Construct. The construct's size does not change.

Hit Dice: Change all Construct hit dice to d12.

Speed: Same as base creature.

Armor Class: The base creature's natural armor class bonus improves by +6. In addition, it gains a +3 Deflection bonus to armor class.

Special Qualities

Breath Weapon (Su): Once per five rounds, a Dragonblood Construct may use its mouth to mimic the breath weapon of a dragon of the same type as that whose blood was used to create it. The save DC against this breath weapon is 10 + 1/2 Construct’s HD + Construct’s Wisdom modifier. If the breath weapon deals damage, it is 1d6 per 2 HD.

Baleful Stare (Su): The gaze of a Dragonblood Construct can cause such dread that weaker creatures are left in terror. This Baleful Stare affects all creatures with fewer HD than the Dragonblood Construct within a 30-foot cone directly in front of it. This ability takes effect automatically whenever the Dragonblood Construct attacks or charges and persists as long as it continues to do either type of action. Targets may avoid this ability with a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 Construct's HD + Construct's Wisdom modifier) and remain immune to that specific Dragonblood Construct’s Baleful Stare power for 24 hours. On a failure, creatures with 4 or less HD become Panicked for 4d6 rounds, and those with 5 or more HD become Shaken for 4d6 rounds. True Dragons and other Dragonblood Constructs are unaffected, as are that construct's creator and anyone who was designated as immune during its creation.

Spell-Like Abilities: A Dragonblood Construct can use all spell-like abilities that would be possessed by a dragon of the same type and age as that whose blood was used to create it. This comes from the list of spells in each dragons’ description under the heading Spell-Like Abilities, and not any individual Special Abilities with the (Sp) descriptor.

Damage Reduction: The construct's natural damage reduction is increased by 5 points, and it now requires a magic weapon to bypass it in addition to any previous requirements.

Energy Immunity: Dragonblood Constructs are immune to damage from the type of energy that is associated with the type of dragon whose blood was used to construct them.

Skills: If the construct would have Skill points, all Class Skills possessed by dragons of the same type as that whose blood was used to create it are permanently added to its Class Skill list.

CR modifier: +2 base plus +1 per age category of the dragon from whom the blood was drawn.

First problem: There is no such subtype as Dragon. Dragon is a Type. Subtypes that the core dragons have are Water, Earth, Air, Fire, and Cold.

If it counts as a dragon, then the proper subtype would be Augmented Dragon, which also explains why these use a d12.

A breath weapon that comes out its eyes? That's just goofy. It would be a gaze attack. That needs to be changed to mouth. Since this is template can only be added at time of construction, making a mouth should not be difficult.

Table: Spells Used in Construction add stone shape to copper dragon and fog cloud to silver dragon.

The Baleful Stare affects all creatures with fewer HD than the Dragonblood Construct within a 30-foot cone directly in front of it. True Dragons and other Dragonblood Constructs are unaffected, as are the construct's creator and anyone who was designated as immune during its creation.

CR modifier: +2 base plus +1 per age category of the dragon.
