Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 71 through 80.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on July 13th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, 64 :roy: Transference (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0064.html) beat back all of the challengers to claim the award. Who will it be this time? Only you can decide that.

The conference hall is now open and the judges are walking in to declare who will be worthy of...

There some really great gags in there (I really like "W.W.T.D.?" and "starts with 's' and ends with 'litting their throats'."), but Banjo's first appearance is just too good, so I'm in for 80 - Replacement Cleric.

Yeah, this. All of this, basically.

My vote goes to 80 as well.

A good batch of strips here. I considered the W.W.T.D comic (also for the dieting monsters), the Chaotic half of the party's disappointment in Roy and V, and Eugene being Eugene, but in the end I have to go for Banjo's creation in 80.

Banjo's first appearance always weirded me out. Made Elan seem like some kinda creepy psychopath.

I want to vote for #75, but V being more reliable and responsible than Haley seems crazy in retrospect. But I'm trying my best not to let future strips affect my judgment...

I'll think about it.

For me, it's between 74, for the first splat on flumphs, and 80, for banjo. Ultimately, I think 80 is going to win, so I'm gonna vote for 74.

76 needs some serious love.

I mean, dwarves holding hands! And just look at that joyfully deranged smile on Hilgya in the last panel. Durkon has no idea what he's getting into.

The flashlight darkvision gag is cute, too, but I pick this strip for setting up a tragic little tryst.

On a broader point, I have to note that Durkon's fling with Hilgya is the most interesting thing he gets to do until...he dies, ~800 strips later.

#80. I was tempted to go for #73 due to the genius WWTD? sequence, but I always forget how average the first half of that strip is, whereas #80 delivers in almost every panel. I truly love that little lightning cloud.

74 for the establishment of the Flumphs joke.

I've gotta go with 80, for the creation of Banjo.

Hmm, let's see...not the strongest selection for me. I'm not a huge fan of either the Flumpfs, or Banjo. I like the punchlines of 72 and 75, though the rest of those strips are fairly average. WWTD? in 73 is great, and the Team cleric stuff is fun, and 79 is sweet. I'll go with 71 for Celia's sensible priorities with a side-serving of Belkar comedy.

80, but only because of Roy's reaction. His lines were priceless.

There's actually a lot of little things that I like throughout these strips. Haley chiding Roy and V for leaving Durkon, Roy's reaction to Banjo, Durkon leaving Belkar out in his list of friends, the glimpse of Xykon killing Fyron, the monster's expression after the 'Cure Moderate Wounds,' Celia swiping office supplies and not having experience manipulating primal elemental forces, the Flumphs...yeah, there's some good stuff here. But the thing that gets the biggest laugh for me every time is the WWTD portion of #73: Thor's Teachings. Yeah, the first half of the strip is only mildly entertaining, but the 'Huzzah!' at the end of Thor's speech cracks me up.

77 was my favorite, because its the first time I've ever seen a ghandi style approach to defeating a monster. The decision WAS definately hard, though.

The whole Dwarves in Lurrrrve storyline was great. And the 'Go Team Cleric' was hilarious.

But not hilarious enough to deny THE POWER OF BANJO!!!! 80 it is, no question. Everything about that comic is played almost perfectly. Right down to the teeny tiny little lightning bolt. Makes the Planescape player in me smile whenever I see it. :smalltongue:
