So, a society I'm part of at university needs to have a flyer designed in the next few weeks. It shouldn't be anything too complicated--a few logos, a bit of text, an interesting background design.

My first thought was to ask around to find someone who had the skills and programs necessary to do this. But then I thought that there's bound to be loads of decent open-source design programs available online, and with enough looking, I should find one that suits my needs and is intuitive enough for me to learn to use in time.

Normally I have the artistic talent of a damp tea-towel, but I already know roughly what it'll look like, so it shouldn't be that hard... should it?

So does anyone have any suggestions of where to start looking?

[Edit] I'm on Windows, by the way.

I need coffee. I misread the title as "open flying saucer design". :smallsigh:

...which would have been a much more interesting thread. I have failed the Playground.

You used to be able to get a 30-day trial of Illustrator for free, but now they changed it to the cloud model thing and I don't know if you can anymore.
