How To Random Banter:
Rules of the Random Banter Thread

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

Reasons not to come:
1. Still in Finland.
2. No moneys.
3. No meetups for me.

Well, come to the next one that happens while you're in the UK. Or get enough money to travel from Finland for one some time!

I'm just having some sort of a life crisis. Everyone seems to be getting married & having kids but me.

I kind of get that. Not so much people getting married and having kids (Though some of my friends have), but people generally getting on with their lives.

Well, she's more in the "**** tier" of in it for the evulz, which is only barely trumped by guys like Ganon who are just doing it for power. Or maybe it's basically the same tier. Ozymandias is god tier since his motives are arguably better than those of the actual protagonists. I think sympathetic villains who we can still acknowledge as inarguably worse than the protagonists are the next step down and then there's meh stuff like evil because crazy or nature.

Eh, I'd say it varies. Sometimes it's interesting to have a villain with a bit of a tragic backstory or whatever, or at least some explanation for why they are the way they are, but sometimes the purity of a "for the evulz" villain can be more fitting and compelling in an entirely different way.

Yes, and Taet is saying RD isn't on the list as having ever made one, contradictory to his statement as having made one in the past.

I would disagree. The second was a bit ,eh in places, the third was good with some spectacular moments, and the fourth was more or less back to the good quality of the first.

Yes it is scary. Every bridal shower and baby shower might be the last time the people ever see that girl. And of course you're not supposed to say it and scare her. So that thought just sits there but it shows up anyway.

I mean, I could never see you again after this. But there was no good reason to think that would happen. It would be OK but not saying goodbye when death is coming is not OK.

Dying is scary even if someone is just dying in the spirit. Even if you will only never see her again.

They are parties before the wedding or before the baby and everyone is required to bring a gift for her. Maybe it's an American idea. So I don't know if the answer is "you will find out soon" or maybe you don't have them at all where you live.

I have lost friends that way even if they are still alive. If I call her and try to talk she is not the same person any more. We're strangers. I am grieving. That's OK. We can grieve together about our own woes. The classic grief drink is something stronger than tea though.

Well, everybody was in a panic just a moment ago. One of the chickens managed to get into one of the garden beds AGAIN.

And right after we thought we got all the chickens, right when I was coming back inside, I saw 3 chickens loose in the yard. The first one was easy, since it ran right into the netting that we use to protect the vegetables and flowers from the chickens and got stuck in it. So, that one was a major cakewalk for me, but it got harder with the other two. But it wasn't hard for very long.

I would not be surprised if those chickens could escape from Alcatraz. :smallsigh:

You know, chicken Alcatraz would be a line of chalk on a bit of concrete with a row of chickens stuck staring at it.

Poultry is even more enjoyable when the city kids decide to try to catch the chickens. Usually you do not need to. Just herding them into the coup is good enough. Just like ducks, you probably do not want to cuddle them; they will leave presents running down your front. Baby chickens are very cuddly though (just be careful as they are a little fragile).

Now if you want an affectionate bird, you need budgies. (Cockatiels still make better companions however, and ravens are quite smart.)

Mwhahahaha  And you'll never know, will you?

Wait. Is it true that people don't read a reply unless there is a quote box from their own post on top of it?

I guess I'll never get an answer to that if the answer is "yes" but it would explain a lot.

Some people don't. It's a useful way to keep track of who's talking to you. I normally read through everything unless it's obviously not of interest to me, unless I've got a bunch of pages to catch up on, and then I just skim through the posts until I see my name or something funny.

CurlyKitBoy (When will you change that???), no one knows what you're talking about anymore.:smalltongue: All we have is the MAKEOUT corner for Finn and Amidus. (It's also a scribble center)

Oh, yeah. What Curly said fits word better. It can be negative, but it does mean a rather clever and effective, if cynical, plot. Machiavellian plots are plots that work, after all. (Though, considering what the Prince actually is, shouldn't the word mean something else?:smallconfused::smalltongue:)

Quoting, Bolding, good ways of getting the conversation with someone else going. Coidzor induced Spoilered-conversations... Weird. Don't do those.:smalltongue:

You may not want to let Finn-tsun know you said that. You'll have all sorts of stuff scribbled on your face. :smalltongue: :smallamused:

I would always treat it as a compliment, but I do that for most things. You, sir, are welcome. :smallcool: Also, yay for satire!

He can spoiler them as much as he wants; I still skim the ones that aren't to me and respond in a full wall of unspoilered text. :smallamused:

Argh, then there's that. The silliest friends actually being in steady relationships, cohabitating... sambo! sambo! :smallwhitetongue:
*dies as an old cat lady* /jk

If you're the least silly of all of your friends, then you know some crazy people. :smalltongue: :smallamused:

My ancient neighbour said that, once upon a time when she took care of the garden for the disabled man who lived here, the strawberries were there. This means that I have pulled the plug on several decades of descendants. The plants were very handsome, too, and the roots smelled sweetly like berries as I tore them up. ;___; Am I a monster?

What a horrible thing for you to do, Kneenibble. I'm sure his progeny will never forgive you. :smalltongue: :smallamused:

Yes it is scary. Every bridal shower and baby shower might be the last time the people ever see that girl. And of course you're not supposed to say it and scare her. So that thought just sits there but it shows up anyway.

Dying is scary even if someone is just dying in the spirit. Even if you will only never see her again.

Depending on the person, I'd probably be jumping for joy. :smallamused:

Dying isn't scary. It's other people dying that sucks. As soon as I have a rough estimate of when I'm going to die, I'll start burning bridges. I'll enjoy pissing them off, and they'll enjoy waiting for me to kick the bucket. Win-win. :smallcool:

Then again, I may have a bit of a skewed perspective on this. :smallamused:

These are really smart chickens. Their intelligences matches the chickens in the movie Chicken Run. What they lack is the ability to speak English.

And I've had my fair share of chicken poop. Made the mistake of having one on my lap. Next thing I know, there was a large stain on my lap.

And I've held a baby chicken in my hand before. Only, it actually pooped in my hand and it splattered onto one of my shoes that I had replaced a really long time ago.

I go away for two days and there is a new thread.

*golf clap* I'm proud of you, RB. Keep it coming. :smallcool:

I think I skipped a few things that I thought were hilarious but didn't feel like dragging up. So, Coid, Dimo, & Enderlord; y'all made me laugh. :smallamused:

Quite.

*bows*

Dankeschon.

ET WAS MAH CORNAH TAH BUHGIHN WITH! :smalltongue: :smallamused: It was, and I'm not sure how you forgot. :smallertongue:

Nah. I complain about everything, whether there's a problem with it or not. I only point out inaccuracies that are there. :smalltongue: :smallwink:

Mwhahahaha  And you'll never know, will you?

Indeed.

And that's one of the more endearing eccentricities, aye.

Well, no, not without asking nicely and trusting in actually getting a straight answer. And I already know there's no point in asking that of either of you. :smalltongue:

You may not want to let Finn-tsun know you said that. You'll have all sorts of stuff scribbled on your face. :smalltongue: :smallamused:

I would always treat it as a compliment, but I do that for most things. You, sir, are welcome. :smallcool: Also, yay for satire!

Amidus raises a very good point here, aye.

ION: So, WVA and stuff. I'll get to it in a bit.

I have no idea. The problem I am doing involves finding the perimeter of a triangle with only a slope and a point.

I've never encountered anything like this before.

Oo, exciting!

Oh, triangle trig. The stuff that makes sense, where you don't have to memorize a bunch of useless formulas. I liked that stuff.

Yeah, but you'll wish you had it back when you get to trig with circles. :smallamused:

Not really. I mean, it was relaxing, but that's because we didn't do much. Some parts are very pretty back there. Honestly, most of the state reminds me of this county, except the towns are smaller or nonexistent. I tried to take some pictures, but they didn't turn out particularly well (for a few reasons: 1) I am no photographer, 2)We were riding in a car, on some fairly rough roads, and 3) Even where the roads were pretty nice, there were trees lining the sides of them nearly everywhere), but I may post some later, if any were any good.

First interesting place we went was an old coal mine they'd turned into a museum sort of thing. (out near Beckley, I think). They had a few buildings (either rebuilt or moved from somewhere else) dressed up like they would have been back in the early 1900's when the mines were booming, complete with the sort of things miners back then would have had with them. There was a church, a schoolhouse, a superintendent's house, a 1-room house, and a 3-room house; all full of things from that era (or that looked like they were, anyway). The really interesting part, though, was that they had a cart that went down into the old mines, and a guide would stop at a few places underground and show you things about how mines worked back then.

Speaking of coal, there are exposed rock faces in WVA (from where they blasted the mountains to build roads) where you can see layers of coal between the other rocks. It's pretty cool.

My father's mother's side of the family is from WVA (and she came along on the trip), and basically we went and drove down around where her family used to live back in the 50's. Have you ever heard of a "town" called Isaban (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaban,_West_Virginia)?

If you haven't, you share something with well over 7 billion people. :smallamused:

There isn't much there; it's a few houses on the side of a mountain. There are actually a lot of little towns like it (some bigger, some slightly smaller) down in that area; we drove through a whole bunch of 'em. (We crossed into KY and southwestern VA some too). Most were very similar to some of the hollers around here; you've got two ridges, a road, a creek, and houses in between. (sometimes the houses are on the opposite side of the creek as the road, sometimes not). There were some fairly nice houses back there, though there were some that were little better than shacks.

I like your enthusiasm. :smalltongue:

~11.217 units, although you may want to check me on that.

Anyway, that's not so much trig as it is algebra; I thought you meant something like: for a triangle ABC, angle ABC=32*, angle ACB=57* and side AC=5. Solve for the remaining angles and sides of the triangle. (that should be possible to do... someone that's done this recently may correct me).

Considering that some of that goes to charity (and you can set the amount up to 100% to charity), that would be absolutely heartless.

You can pay only a few cents if you want (don't, the developers and charities deserve better than that), but for the Humble Bundles you must pay at least $1 USD in order to get the Steam keys, and you must pay more than the current average to get every game in the bundle.

I feel I am missing clearly visible information. What does the 'm' refer to? Is it the full length of the side or only to the point? The point at 2,1 is a good clue. So that is two across the bottom and one high. The triangle is right angled, right? Now I am highly curious!

m is the slope of the line. You have everything you need to know. First, you solve for what x-value the line crosses each axis. (in this case, it crosses at (2.5,0) and (0,4). Then you use the pythagorean theorem (a2+b2=c2) to find the third side, and you add the three together.

So much happens when I take a day off from the forums to focus on Star Trek Online.

@old thread stuff:
Sweeny Todd is awesome, and yes that includes the Tim Burton version; I should probably watch this Black Butler thing that makes Moonie freak out so much; and Frollo is in fact the best Disney villain ever by dint of being voiced by the late, great Tony Jay.

Oh, and Maleficent is awesome because she commands this vast horde of creatures and has the ability to TRANSFORM INTO A FRIKKIN' DRAGON and all she uses it for is to spite the neighbors who were rude to her. I'm pretty sure if I was going to put some effort into it, I could make the case that she's the protagonist of that movie.

The straight lines of the graph have zero in them somewhere. A plain graph like that has its lines where zero is and that the center is 0,0 unless it is labeled different. And the teacher likes to label those lines different on the very last question to see if you understand that. Putting zero into the equation and solving it gets you information even if there's no zero in the problem. That much I remember. But I don't remember what those lines are called.

By the way, where have you been Hatter!?!? *hugs* It has been quite a while.

I am afraid of cuddling a bird of any size. They seem so delicate. Even the bones of a chicken cut up on the dinner table seem soft. If you say they hold up to a hug, I believe you both, but don't truly believe.

Drowning is terrible! Water in your lungs makes them ache in every split path in them once there's water inside. So there is pain and there is also total confusion not knowing which way is up. Everything that you know is gone once you don't know which way is up. I don't know how space pilots survive.

I wanted to like the movie adaptation of Sweeney Todd, I really did... Alas, I could not like it, however I cannot condemn it and have lent the DVD to some of my friends. Some people want to watch Johnny Depp attempt to sing as the blood runs as if glistening rivers of bright, bright red. Depp did not do too badly, but the casters could have chosen a cast with outstanding vocal talents.

A spoiler box for spoilers? What is this?!
Following the variants on story of Sweeney and the Pie Lady (I never cared enough for her to learn her name) may be interesting for those willing to watch multiple versions of the same musical.

The Mad Hatter was probably the worst aspect of that movie. The costume design was pretty good though. I just really didn't like the movie.

My username is a nickname coined for myself during high school (my name and I had a fight). This was before I had read the books, and even after I had read them I was a little confused as to why people named him 'Hatter'. Apparently a lot of people do not use the phrase 'mad as a Hatter' as often as I.

I am glad you read the books. It seems most people I talk to have simply watched the Disney movie and not bothered, which is a crying shame if you ask me.

I...I meant people in the real life, TaiLiu. People in our reality wanted villains who were focused on making money.

Magma's Best Strategy Ever

Plan 1: Get ontop of volcano, use science to make it erupt. While we're on the lip of the volcano.

Plan 2: Get a space ship, load it with all the jetfuel we can find, and ram spaceship into a volcano to blow it up. While on the space ship since we need to pilot it

Plan 3: Reawaken the red pokemon who focuses on fire and land, who gave us inspiration for our red colours and red, lavay, mountain emblem. Control it with the blue, watery coloured orb.

It's actually kind of hilarious. Team Aqua had one very long, sensible, amazing plan. And no resources to do it. Team Magma was, pun intended, FLAMING IDIOTS, who had all the cash and resources in the world to throw at suicidal plans.

I contest that since Kyogre is a magical whale monster it can generate the rain needed to do this.

Also I feel really bad for Team Aqua. Team Magma can afford a dozen drill tanks, a science machine that can make volcanoes erupt, super fast transportation across the world. Team Aqua can't gather up the funds needed to get them into the Muesem(sic). For the record the fee is like 5 cents. It takes them about an hour to find the money to get them all in.

Well, you see, the Team Plasma members who aren't actually crazy and evil, moved on to New Team Plasma. The current, fully evil Team Plasma, are the last remnants of it, the people who were infact evil and crazy. Also the moral ambiguity was revealed as a lie at the end of the first Black an White game :smallamused:

I can't judge it as a movie on its own, but as an adaptation of Sweeney Todd, it was ****. What makes you disagree? I honestly can't fathom anyone who knows other versions not hating the 2005 one.

I just like seeing Depp be a crazy person. :smalltongue:
No, I agree that it could definitely have been done better, but I wouldn't have the first clue who to cast to make that happen. Except maybe Kristin Chenoweth as Mrs. Lovett, due to her amazing voice and the tie-in with Pushing Daisies.

Yep. He also does a podcast and hosts other voice actors from the same company. It's amazing.

This does sound fairly awesome.

Sleep is for losers.

... That's just hurtful. :smalltongue:
Actually, having slept, I realize that I may have... misremembered some key details from that story.

Johnny Depp should be forcibly separated because of his incredible talent being wasted on the tediously repetitive and over-hyped work of Burton.

Only some of it is repetitive and overhyped. Remember Nightmare Before Christmas? That movie was FANTASTIC. Although, oddly enough, that one didn't have Depp in it.

HBC was a bad choice, and so was Depp. I love the actor, but his vocal range was not wide enough to play Sweeney.

Thing is, he sort of has to cast HBC in things. She's his wife. If she wants a part, it would be kinda awkward for him to not give her the part.

I've yet to see anything he's adapted at least that hasn't been terrible.

How about Batman? The one with Nicholson as the Joker is, hands down, the best Batman movie that's been made. Although again, it didn't have Depp and did have Danny Elfman. Maybe Burton should just work with Elfman instead of Depp?

I mostly liked the ninjas, but it's just that they're literally the only reason the plot happened almost four times. And it's not even clear what they do. It's implied they grab your arms so you can't toss a pokeball, but they play that card so many times it just infuriated me. Because when they finally fight you they're pathetically easy. My scrafty didn't even take damage. For all three.

Wait, Team Plasma? You mean they weren't just a made up group for the hilarious PETA parody?

Yha, Ghetsis (who is actually kind of great, since at the end of the second game he just tells his legendary pokemon to kill us, instead of pokemon fighting us) and Team Plasma are not, infact, PETA. They claim they are, and some people ARE generally trying to do good (and after Plasma is disbanded they go on to realize pokemon are good and become good guys, running an orphanage for abused pokemon) but for the most part, Team Plasma is full of jerks who are doing this to rule the world. The idea is that N will have his dragon, and they'll use the "if you don't get rid of your pokemon, we'll dragon kill you" plan to make it so that only Plasma has pokemon.

In the second game, Ghetsis drops the act and basically becomes terrorist group.

I want to say that, since the image on their belt buckle is a fire, and all their clothing is red, and their hair is styled to be fire, that they will, infact, be using fire type pokemon. However since they're evil they'll likely be using dark poison and normal pokes in the early to middle game, with some of the stronger ones having fully evolved pokemon of that type. Like how Maxie from Team Magma had Camerupt, Mighteyna, and Crobat.

However, I REALLY hope that, since these guys aren't as far as I can tell actually EVIL, persay (they DO just want to make money. Maybe they're not wholy evil?) they'll use other types.

I seem to remember there being one in the vicinity of the waterway either for the cave that opened the Golems' doors or Rayquaza as well. Probably the former.

Theoretically the people who speak French will speak English due to translation convention.

Lavos, being some kind of horrific space Terrasque, can break reality enough to have his spikes fit how they do.

Not sure what you mean for the Maya thing.

Maya is the industry-standard 3D modelling program.

I think you can work out where the list's coming from now you've got that info.

I'll upload a few renders when I finish the last bit, and again when I finish the animation.

Trying? All I still have to do is the feet (and a bit of refinement on the face - started the program this week and that was the first bit I do), and then i'm done with modelling and just need a texture for the red-veins-on-green before it's done. Then I make it roar.

(anyone know a good texture for the thin veins? I can tweak the colors if necessary)

I just like seeing Depp be a crazy person. :smalltongue:
No, I agree that it could definitely have been done better, but I wouldn't have the first clue who to cast to make that happen. Except maybe Kristin Chenoweth as Mrs. Lovett, due to her amazing voice and the tie-in with Pushing Daisies.

... That's just hurtful. :smalltongue:
Actually, having slept, I realize that I may have... misremembered some key details from that story.

Only some of it is repetitive and overhyped. Remember Nightmare Before Christmas? That movie was FANTASTIC. Although, oddly enough, that one didn't have Depp in it.

Thing is, he sort of has to cast HBC in things. She's his wife. If she wants a part, it would be kinda awkward for him to not give her the part.

How about Batman? The one with Nicholson as the Joker is, hands down, the best Batman movie that's been made. Although again, it didn't have Depp and did have Danny Elfman. Maybe Burton should just work with Elfman instead of Depp?

He wasn't crazy enough in Sweeney Todd! My major issue with him was that he was directed to play an incredibly reserved and quiet type, instead of the laughing-mad filled-with-fury revenge-desirous character Sweeney is supposed to be!

I'm not the greatest with movie actors, but I'm certain one could be found who'd have been able to play her correctly. Chenoweth seems just too young though.

Which story? I'm blanking on all of yesterday.

Nightmare Before Christmas wasn't directed by Burton. :smallamused: What I'll give Burton is that he can design incredible looks (even if they're always the same look and are completely inappropriate to what he's supposed to be designing a look for.) for a film, which he did do. However, the director? That was Henry Selick, who also directed Coraline, which I personally find to be the absolute winner in all stop-motion animation. (Thufir, before you point out Coraline was written by Gaiman, I'm clarifying that I found the book he wrote boring and a waste of a good plot. The movie took that plot and made it amazing.(And I read the book first, this isn't bias based on having seen the movie first.))

Which is probably why so many NORMAL pokemons will become FAIRY, because the amount of FIGHTING pokemons is starting to make NORMAL rather crappy from the mediocre it used to be.

Is the new enemy team going to even make an attempt at being evil or competent, or are they just going to follow in Magma/Aqua's footsteps? :smallamused:Apparently they aren't trying to be evil so much as finding evil the most efficient method for acquiring their goal.

You're right, it's not. It's a reason. Nepotism gets the wrong person in the wrong role and the movie suffers for it. Even the best director in the world - and Burton definitely isn't that - can't cover for having the wrong actors.

Depp's Todd never rose to the surface. Listen to his Epiphany, the song where he's supposed to be raging at the world, the heavens, fate, himself. He sings it in a ****ing monotone. And the final scene! He is supposed to be furious when he discovers how Mrs. Lovett tricked him. He just flatly says "You lied to me," and throws her in the oven. He doesn't even cry at the body of the wife he accidentally murdered! If Sweeney were a cold calculating villain, I'd say he didn't make it clear he was intelligent enough, but that he was far closer to that than the type of character Sweeney is actually supposed to be!

Sure. Although I'm sure there are plenty of middle0aged actresses who would also do.

Right.

I make it out that he is progressively getting worse, and whenever he adapts something, it's a million times worse than anything he creates himself, and what he does have a hand in is always in the same style that bores me for its repetitiveness.

He could have turned her audition down. It's inexcuseable he does this in every movie, always with the same damn actors, no matter where they fit and don't fit, no matter how much access he has to actors who would work well in the roles he gives because the nincompoop can't work with anyone else.

Maybe. Maybe not.

I want to be a father so terrible badly.

It does seem to have its moments, though it also seems to age a man terribly. My dad managed to weather my older sibs well enough, but after me he went from being an adult to middle-aged before his time. It's so weird to me to talk to people who have memories of their parents being youngish and attractive, since my parents have been old to me even before they were 40... But that might just be my hang-ups and fear latching onto an obscure bit of trivia to discourage me from dying as a free man and becoming something more but also different. Or maybe I'm just an overly-romanticizing buffoon. :smalltongue:

The 'i' still works, but it requires additional force, so I end up retyping words two or three times to get the 'i's in them. Fingers crossed this'll be a short-lived text impediment.

But . . . but . . . complicated? No, it probably isn't; but it's an easy work around that's already fairly intuitive. Just got to remember to map the typing so that my right middle finger always hits the 'i' when doing most of the typing because that's my brawniest finger.

Yes. That is why there are independent goth shops making the same clothing to last and charging the higher prices that it needs to make them last and surviving. I can find shops like that in Old Town Sacramento which is the boutique district but not the arty one. It is odd because it is a district where college student level shops like independent goth shops can afford it too. Art shops have not pushed them out yet. Now I just need to get the shops to buy it. :smallyuk:Where exactly is this interesting shopping area? Any street address for anyone doing tourism is such an area?

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and Black/White Black2/White2 actually had rather compontent villains, in comparision. I do however hope for version dependent teams; with some counterpart to team flare for the version which doesn't get them.

Forgive me for raking through the ashes of an old fire; there are yet coals smouldering therein worthy of breath, which I shall presently vent.

These no doubt sound like our European blueberries, but I don't know. Wikipedia makes no mention of them growing overseas. For the record, when I'm speaking of "European blueberries", I talk of what Wikipedia call "bilberries" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilberry), a name I find so stupid and rootlessly demeaning (I.e. Wiktionary lacks an etymology entry for it) I won't stoop down to take in my mouth ever again.

European blueberries have always been native to Europe and probably Asia as well (but I'll keep calling them European, because I'm European myself), and notoriously hard to garden. Besides, I doubt any engineered blueberries would have a fighting chance in the wild...

This is a curiously complex knot of crossed languages and names and histories which I shall endeavour to unravel. It may take a while though. For I know this name which you expectorate "Bilberry" as a creature unrelated to our blueberries, a thing taken in exotic supplements as amulet against disorders of the eye. It is not what I pick in the woods: and nor is that knee-high shrub you inveigh. Let us reconvene on this topic at a future date, armed with further herbalisms, to best circumscribe the genera and the species of our object.

The end of an era is always a sad one, but nothing is eternal. Bravest of humankind's warriors, are mum and the conservators who stand by her side, fighting the inevitable in a battle they can't win, so that future generations yet may know the past, but we all must know that nothing lasts forever, and sometimes, the past has to make side for a brighter future.

;___; I have begun a new era, I hope, with all the beautiful or delicious things I have planted to take their venerable place. Your mother and I are in complementary professions, and I imagine we would get along.

Speaking of the past: I learned recently that the Ulfilas Gospels are kept in your city, that pricelessly luxurious manuscript inscribed in silver and gold on purple-dyed foetal vellum. Do you know of this item?

Yes. This is page 50.

If the birds stole that many strawberries there are probably new strawberry plants growing all over your neighborhood right underneath their nests. Also they are strawberries. They might sprout again unless you are careful with your compost. Also I would gladly have traded for those strawberries. The vines in my backyard were false strawberries and even the birds refused to eat those berries. I am ripping them out but they keep coming back.

Where do the fluffy sparrows nest? I do not know: they are nomads, ever present with their tiny round bodies I wish so dearly to press against my face. You speak as one used to the perennial fecundity of California, not knowing how inhospitable a 6-month winter is to natural propogation. But it is not just the sparrows, it is also the squirrels and, in the damp summers, the slugs. I have a tiny property: a 4' space devoted to a single handful of berries in our year's fruitive sliver is an unacceptable investment. You may take all the plants you are able to transport from me, mysterious moonlike Taet, as they are likely even now taking indomitable root in my compost heap as you admonish.

This False Strawberry is not known to me. I am sorry for your plague of such vines, for I know the pain of pernicious weeds that arise, and arise, and arise, no matter how keenly they are razed. My dying spit upon Motherwort.

:smallsigh:

Who knew how much fun poultry can be. Top that, budgies! :P

Tee hee hee! It sounds so adorable. I'll bet the chickens were super fluffy to the touch as you took them back to their determined area. No, budgies could never reach that level of mischief, but can a chicken sit on your glasses frames and preen your eyebrow?

Now if you want an affectionate bird, you need budgies. (Cockatiels still make better companions however, and ravens are quite smart.)

We must differ in this regard, for I will take a budgie as companion any day. If for no other reason than that budgies smell sooooo good.

Not to say that I will stop trying to kidnap Storm. I'd still scritch a cockatiel behind the crest any day of the week, but for permanent bonding, I'm a budgie man through and through.

Today on my bike ride after work I saw some ravens bathing in a puddle. I love watching birds bathe, how they fluff out and just kind of nuzzle the shallow water. It reminds me of giving my childhood budgie baths under the kitchen tap in my hands, and he would just fluffily *nuzzle* into my spread palms under the running water.

Ravens are also fluffier than crows, and have little bristly beards around their beaks. These qualities alone render them more desirable.

ION: I make bad decisions at 3am. I would do well to remember that. With any luck, I won't be too sore tomorrow. I'd rather like to use that hand at some point.

Good night, all.

Two wobbuffets, back when shadow tag didn't allow you to swap out if caught in a shadow tag; meant two wobbuffets were effectively going to have to wait out for the 150pp approx they had (Mirror Coat, Counter, Encore and Protect/Taunt). There was absolutely no other option and with two very stubborn players it was essentially several hours for it to finally boil down to zugzwang.

Well, if you're using green tinder, you're only going to get smoke and steam, no matter what you use to light it. :smallwink:

Why, of course. How could I forget? Sometimes I am distracted by your mastery of figurative language, and forget that you only speak in the true literal meaning of what you say. :smallamused: :smalltongue:

I did not, although I have before. There were a few pieces that were dug up when the garden was planted two years ago; probably dumped from a coal furnace by the previous owners of the house. It was hard coal, though, not soft coal (which is most of what they mined), so I imagine they have a different feel to them. The mine was quite damp, but it was just as comfortable as any natural limestone cave I've been in. The ceiling is low, though (about 5ft high or so), and it definitely is no place for the claustrophobic.

Oh, something I didn't add earlier: the guide demonstrated how to use a few of the old methods of getting light down into the mines (lamps/candles of various sorts), and with the final demonstration (carbide lamps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbide_lamp)) he turned off the electric lights so we could see just how little light the lamp provided. Then he cut off the lamp. :smallamused:

Coal is so neat! I have a cast iron bucket filled with coal pieces from my late grandparents: I would say it is soft coal probably, because it is easy to break and has a visible milles-feuilles rather than a solid mass. How old is your house, though? The idea of a coal stove seems so ancient, I mean I would expect to find coal pieces around my place which is perhaps eleventy years old, but I thought your house was rather newer than that.

Hoo boy, I bet a thick saturating darkness enveloped the mine when the lamp went off. Damp, cramped, and utterly dark... that's a great way to make a Kneenibble soil his tailored trousers. Must have been a wild experience.

I have not yet met anyone with a 'huge thing' for grey eyes yet. It seems as though my eye colour is something everyone misses. I was teasing one of my friends earlier this year about being very unobservant. I asked what colour my eyes were. He guessed hazel, as my parents' eyes are hazel and brown.

He was wrong, needless to say.

Mm. I have eyes that are the right shade of hazel to look gold. I love my gold eyes. So much. xD But only because saying to someone I have good eyes, and them actually seeing it is priceless.

Grey eyes are rare, but super attractive. Grey eyes and black hair, for one, is a great combination.

Golden eyes are always fun, aye. Some browns can be tawny enough to pass for a sort of wolfish gold as well, which is interesting to see.

True grey is rare, but ice blue that borders on grey or blue-grey that borders on ice depending upon the lighting isn't super rare. Yeah, I suppose I'd have to agree with you about that particular combination of raven locks and grey eyes working well together.

Not a ginger myself, so it would seem my soul, such as it is, is still clinging on by a few fetters.

Grey eyes do tend to be a bit more vulnerable to being glossed over as I recall, though, amusingly enough, that's actually been why people have commented on it when my eyes have gone grey, because apparently they were striking enough as blue that their absence made them try to figure out what was different about me. Either that or I've been really oblivious to a strange way of expressing interest. XD

Mhm. I've only known two people with grey eyes, and they were two male twins. Ice blue is good... Kinda... Alarming, but nice to look at. Mhm, those muted colors work well. Espescially with pale skin.

Also, is that odd? I like pale skin. Tan skin is.... Not at all attractive to me. Same with big, full lips. I like thin lips... Maybe I'm weird.

Eyes similar to Tywin Lannister, huh?

I have wanted to dye my hair to a colour close to black or black for a very long time and my family has tried to dissuade me from it for a very long time. When it is wet my hair is fairly close to black, but dry it is a golden-brown. Not dirty blonde by the way, as it is a few shades off. It definitely looks brown to everyone except my sister. Then again, sisters were created to be annoying. :smallfurious:

I do think now I have a bit of a tan very dark hair would suit me. Ahh, no way to be sure without getting some sort of non-permanent hair dye. Even those last several weeks however and I am not sure about that.

My brother has very bright blue eyes which most people notice. The opinions I get on my gaze is simply that it is intense.

Perhaps more it is the expression behind the eyes than the colour that pull people in initially. For a reason best unexplained during childhood I did not do eye contact. I learned it later in life, so when talking to me I will be bordering on staring. It makes some people uncomfortable for sure, but for some reason a lack of eye contact makes even more people uncomfortable. (Australia by the way. Not in the indigenous community however, as some of the indigenous tribes don't feel it is as big a deal.)

Actually, if I could find the video I would link it. Most predators' eyes lack the easy-to-see whites of ours. Our eyes are designed so we can easily tell where each other are looking. Interesting, no?

Ahh, do not move to Australia. We are all burned and slightly browned. Interestingly, even though I am tanned compared to the stereotypical European look people still assume I am not from Australia due my paler skin. To be fair, it takes 3-4 hours in the sun for me to burn, and I certainly do not do that often as it is incredibly unhealthy.

Actually, I have a lot of European features but nobody has ever commented on them as a reason for asking if I am foreign... Only my skin colour.

Well, there's something like costumer's dye which is supposed to wash out immediately, and only sometimes holds to the hair IIRC. :smallconfused:

A bit of both for me, I suppose. I've gotten a fair measure of BS for having thicker eyebrows than is usual so people tend to think I'm more aggressive or angry due to them and my mouth naturally turning downwards in a slight frown which is exacerbated by the way my facial hair tends to grow.

I usually defaulted to looking between the eyes because alternating between left eye and right eye gets hypnotic/annoying/distracting.

Hm... I'm trying to remember if I've heard that before. Makes sense though, and is a bit interesting, yeah. Dogs are very different from baseline wolves in that they actually know to seek out and look at facial expression and eyes for emotional cues.

I think the parts of me that never see sun might be that pale, when they're not so pale that they're pink or red from the blood vessels underneath. Was called a vampire a lot when I was a chillen due to my pale skin and growing up in a sunny region and not really tanning despite being outside all the time. Arms have finally darkened up at some point between puberty and adulthood, though that may just be a trick of the boar's bristles growing out the back of my arms. Most of me tends towards ruddy though, if I recall the term correctly. Only really turning white when it's cold out and the color drains from me.

Mmm, all I've managed is to get some yellow flecks in my eyes that disappear when they go pale.

I only have one, but one is more than enough.

Yeah, my mouth does the same thing but while growing up people assumed I was sad. Now I am not sure it is as noticeable. I also have dimples, so I have to dodge being called 'cute' and 'adorable' all the time. My eyebrows are a lot darker than my hair for some reason, so a fair few people seem to think I have a secret hair dying technique for very effective golden-brown hair.

I don't focus on anything that small unless I need to, so this eyes thing is not an issue for me. Though when I am very tired and not concentrating, my lazy eye does wander a little which I am sure is worse than being hypnotic.

Your fact about dogs is interesting too, but why we have chihuahuas and similar tiny dogs will forever baffle me. They have rather irritating personalities if you ask me.

For some reason, I do not 'look Australian'. Which to be honest is ridiculous as in school we are taught to take pride in our multicultural nation.

Well, I am not looking for unnatural black as it would not look as sharp.

That seems to be the consensus, aye. :smallamused:

Ah, yeah... I don't even want to conjecture whether it's worse to be seen as a bit intimidating or adorable for that kind of thing. :smalleek: I think my eyebrows are darker as well, though it's hard to tell whether that's legit the case or just a product of the different textures of the hair, but the rest of my hair is dark as well except for the obligatory blond, golden brown, and red beard hairs.

I've found that people tend to think I'm bored if I don't focus my eyes to some extent while I'm talking to them, at least in an "eyecontact" context.

Toy dogs baffle me as well, and it amuses me that the larger the dog is, the more it wants to be held and loved on like only a small dog could be, but that smaller dogs can't really deal with that kind of treatment as it stresses them out and leads to them being high-strung and given to panick and biting. :/

It's always interesting seeing how Australia can be similar to the U.S. in some ways and different in others. I'd say that this is definitely one of the ways in which our xenophobias align though.

I'm not really seeing the problem with natural-looking black hair though. :smallconfused: Is it some kind of cultural association in Australia? All I could think of was that ink-black would get parsed as some kind of goth-a-like subculture and evoke those sorts of prejudices...

Meanwhile, I'm just miffed my eyes don't look like the trademark shade of blue that my Dutch family has.

And I've found pictures of me with brown eyes from when I was younger, which only serves to confuse the matter more.

I used to have bright blue eyes as a kid. They've dulled to a sort of slate-gray/blue. I can't tell if it's a physical manifestation of me losing the bright spark of youth or they're just getting paler until they turn completely gray/white and I get ghost powers. Those are the only options.

My sister's went from green to hazel when she was very young, so I guess it's a common thing for us?

Well, everybody was in a panic just a moment ago. One of the chickens managed to get into one of the garden beds AGAIN.

And right after we thought we got all the chickens, right when I was coming back inside, I saw 3 chickens loose in the yard. The first one was easy, since it ran right into the netting that we use to protect the vegetables and flowers from the chickens and got stuck in it. So, that one was a major cakewalk for me, but it got harder with the other two. But it wasn't hard for very long.

I would not be surprised if those chickens could escape from Alcatraz. :smallsigh:

Who knew how much fun poultry can be. Top that, budgies! :P

Our parrots have escaped and flown off multiple times, this is the reason that we only have one, instead of two, as we used to live across the street from an open space.

Our chickens, on the other hand, aren't full grown yet, and are slippery and incredibly difficult to catch. I would imagine that as they get older and their mass increases, they're easier to grab.

Was it a very long post? Were you doing other things at the same time?

It was long, but not excessively so, and I didn't do anything in the meantime. It was, however, a very thought-intensive post, and I think I may've read it all through at least three times. And probably closer to five or above for the most critical sections...

The 'i' still works, but it requires additional force, so I end up retyping words two or three times to get the 'i's in them. Fingers crossed this'll be a short-lived text impediment.

Fingers crossed indeed.

Toast.
Toast is always a good snack if you can have it hot.

Toast is good, but I prefer it for my breakfasts, since it requires a minimum of effort. I settled for a piece of dry bread with butter on top. Spartan, but at least no effort was required in making it.

It's either a massive post or massive post.

Or a large but really invested post.

I really hope those two circumstances aren't somehow linked.

Do any two sentences in that post look like they're related? :smallwink:

This is a curiously complex knot of crossed languages and names and histories which I shall endeavour to unravel. It may take a while though. For I know this name which you expectorate "Bilberry" as a creature unrelated to our blueberries, a thing taken in exotic supplements as amulet against disorders of the eye. It is not what I pick in the woods: and nor is that knee-high shrub you inveigh. Let us reconvene on this topic at a future date, armed with further herbalisms, to best circumscribe the genera and the species of our object.

Do you perchance know the Latin name of your wild blueberries?

Also, I shall put my best dwarves on it.

;___; I have begun a new era, I hope, with all the beautiful or delicious things I have planted to take their venerable place. Your mother and I are in complementary professions, and I imagine we would get along.

Let us all hope so. You have my blessing.

Speaking of the past: I learned recently that the Ulfilas Gospels are kept in your city, that pricelessly luxurious manuscript inscribed in silver and gold on purple-dyed foetal vellum. Do you know of this item?

Ulfilas Gospels? Oh, the Codex Argenteus! Of course I know of it.

Anyways, Random thing that just happened;
So, I'm sitting here, sipping the last of my nice, ice cold Mt. Dew (Lol, at 1:30 AM) and this really, really loud humming noise started up, (Like Loud as in really loud, not insect noise loud, like that driving down the highway guy next to you has bass through the roof loud) And ended about 4/5 minutes later.......And frankly, I'm more then a little on edge, any ideas on what it is?

With no further information on how it sounded and where it seemed to come from, no. If it happens again, get up and try to follow it. It'll probably lead out of your house, so you don't have follow it all the way, but just so you get an idea of where it comes from. Knowing the source can usually be rather reassuring, and if it isn't, it's because you've found something in need of fixing.

Coincidentally I've had my eyes go through all of those at various lifestages and moods/seasons. :smallamused:

Yeah, me too, more or less.

Eye things. My whole life I was informed that my eyes were very, very blue, and then I went to high school. According to them, my eyes are grey, green, hazel, and "grey-ish blue with cool gold rings on them."

This may be because of your eyes actually changing colour by the time you went to high school. It's actually rather common, especially for us with grey-green eyes. I mean, my started out as blue, and the only constants to my eye colour have been the small brown specks which have been there for as long as I can remember...

And, wow. Blue eyes are the sexiest things alive.

Eh. I'd say eyes can certainly be attractive, but I wouldn't describe them as sexy.
Also, strictly speaking the eyes themselves aren't alive (I AM PEDANT HEAR ME ROAR CONTRADICT YOU IN A MILDLY AGGRESSIVE FASHION)

Also, is that odd? I like pale skin. Tan skin is.... Not at all attractive to me. Same with big, full lips. I like thin lips... Maybe I'm weird.

No, you just have certain tastes. Everyone has their own personal tastes. 'Cause they're, y'know, personal.

I'm not dead, guys. Just in case you were worried.

Curses! Must hire better assassins in future.
I mean, uh... hi. I... missed you? (Because I'm a terrible shot with a sniper rifle?)

I always liked Elder scrolls' character limit which let me name PCs things like Some Random Guy.

Yeah, any character name restrictions under 50 or so characters have always struck me as a bit silly. I mean, is your performance so critical that you can't afford to allocate another 30 bytes for those who want a really long name?

The worst examples, however, are those websites who put an upper bound on password length. Especially since the strongest passwords generally are long, mostly arbitrary phrases of ordinary words, not 8 characters of non-memorable mumbojumbo. Especially since you'll probably manage a greater typing speed for the former, making it harder for an observer to follow.

Nalle, you need to get back to ninja school!

Yeah, you're right, my Fingers of the Raptor technique could probably use some work...

No, the worst are the ones that put a limit on password length and work out what happens when you type too long a password differently for making an account and logging in - one situation drops the extra, the other does that weird thing where it replaces your last character each time you put a new one over the limit, or pushes the first character off the list. Or the two fields have different upper bounds.

Air conditioning? From someone else's house, possibly? Could be neighbors were just starting up their car for whatever reason.

Smoke and steam seems to adequately describe most of my posts here, yes indeed. How's that for figurative language?

Painful to inhale and made mostly of soot? :smalltongue:

The house was definitely built before the 1960s (the 2x6s in the rafters are actually 2 inches wide; they changed the standard in '61), and very likely much earlier than that. I don't know exactly how old it is, though; it's been remodeled and added onto several times.

Indeed it was. I rather enjoyed it myself. (but I like the dark, and I'm not claustrophobic). It was nice and cool in the mine, and when we came back up after the tour was finished, the air seemed even more hot and humid.

Yeah, there's an easy way to mess with people: when you talk to them, stare at their hairline. It's just slightly off from their eyes, so they won't immediately know what's wrong, but it's just as uncomfortable. :smallamused:

I remember reading an article (or was it a video? Maybe we're thinking of the same thing) that had something to do with eye contact and human social evolution or something like that... I wonder where I saw that...

In games at least, I don't think they do it for performance reasons so much as for UI reasons--e.g. they've got to fit the name on that display somewhere! Using "patented fantasy font #727" doesn't help, because you usually can't read it unless it's big enough for the florid curves and tails on the letters to be recognisable...

I too, have never heard of bilberries. In fact, while I knew you could get American blueberries, European (actually [European country] blueberries and so on, I thought it was simply where that specific punnet of fruit was harvested. I think I've only ever had American blueberries once or twice because they were so, not bland, but mild. There was scarcely any taste to them.

Speaking of the past: I learned recently that the Ulfilas Gospels are kept in your city, that pricelessly luxurious manuscript inscribed in silver and gold on purple-dyed foetal vellum. Do you know of this item?

*jawdrop*
Now excuse me while I go envy Teddy darling.
Oh, but before I go dear, have you ever heard of the Catalogue of Digitised Manuscripts (http://manuscripts.cmrs.ucla.edu/index.php) with over three thousand manuscripts in their database?
I hadn't until the fabulous Saint Ridley linked me to it; it is now one of my dear friends.

*raises hand*
Coal stoves, coal fires, agas and the like are still used over here fairly frequently. All but two of the houses in my street have coal fires and/or wood/coal fire stoves. Not that they all use them.

Those are kind of like mine!
I rather derisively say I have cat eyes because they have a large yellow/gold centre, bordered by blue, surrounded by a very dark grey ring. In various lights they look gold, grey, blue, hazel, yellow and rarely green.
We should found the Kaleidoscope Eyes Club.

It was long, but not excessively so, and I didn't do anything in the meantime. It was, however, a very thought-intensive post, and I think I may've read it all through at least three times. And probably closer to five or above for the most critical sections...

Well that explains it; you don't want to misconstrue your meaning, so extra thinking and reading occurs. Probably better than my 'start writing and stop when you stop' method where I seldom re-read or retype my words.

Fingers crossed indeed.

Seems to be behaving a little better today.

Toast is good, but I prefer it for my breakfasts, since it requires a minimum of effort. I settled for a piece of dry bread with butter on top. Spartan, but at least no effort was required in making it.

Toast is a good breakfast food; but I like bacon more. Also porridge. Porridge and a bacon sandwich, mmmm.
Also bacon bites for lunch. Ever had a bacon bite? It's puff pastry with bacon and cheddar cheese placed diagonally in the middle, with the two corners folded over on top. Hideously fatty, and even the pastry contains layers of fat, but so delicious.

ION: I've probably listened to this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojYK6CW8gdw) about forty times in the two days since I've discovered it. It reminds me a little of the song 'Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear' as arranged in Mirrormask and a lot of really good barbershop quartets.

Hmm, apart from very few fields (like on top of character sheets and the like), this shouldn't be a problem...

Speaking of name fields in games, I noticed that when naming a something in Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, if you move the writing prompt too far to the right, you'll suddenly get a lot of metadata into your naming field. Interesting, but it made me fear messing something up horribly, so I canceled pretty quickly...
