Okay, so, I have a monk who, at Large size, deals 3d8 damage on his unarmed strike attacks.

He has a battlefist and Improved Natural Attack (unarmed strike), each of which increases the effective size category by +1.

The SRD has the following conversions for improving attack dice due to size:

1d2 -> 1d3
1d3 -> 1d4
1d4 -> 1d6
1d6 -> 1d8
1d8 -> 2d6
1d10 -> 2d8
2d6 -> 3d6
2d8 -> 3d8

What would 3d8 be boosted to, with two improvements in size categories?

1d8 -> 2d6 -> 3d6 x3 = 9d6?

Something else?

Well, looking at this feat (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsterFeats.htm#improvedNaturalAttack), 3d8 goes to 4d8, then 6d8. :smallsmile:

It didn't make it to the SRD, but it's in the DMG on page 28, under the "Increasing Weapon Damage by Size" table.

2d8 > 3d8 > 4d8 > 6d8 > 8d8
2d10 > 4d8 > 6d8 > 8d8 > 12d8

It's also one of the few places where there's a damage increment for 2d10.

Formula seems to be 1.5 times (round down to nearest even integer, min 1) more damage for each size category increase. So for 2d10, another size increase beyond 12d8 means 18d8.

Hope that helps.

He has a battlefist and Improved Natural Attack (unarmed strike), each of which increases the effective size category by +1.I am away from books so cannot check this, but do check your sources very very carefully.

Pretty much everything that enables unarmed strikes to count as one size larger includes text to the effect "than your actual size" - which means they do not stack. Improved Natural Attack does not do this, but do check the Battlefist wording carefully.

A&E Guide has the same table and a bit expanded in the 1st page after the contents.

A size increase past 12d8 would more likely be 16d8.
After the first couple damage increases, the pattern settles into a "2 size increases > double damage" progression.

Yes, I know it's Pathfinder, but damage progression _is_ a relatively basic thing.

Looking at the Savage Species progression, I do believe your method is correct.

4d6 > 6d6 > 8d6 > 12d6 > 16d6 > 24d6

Damage for each size category is equal to twice the damage 2 size categories earlier.

It's 3/2 then 4/3 then 3/2 then 4/3 then 3/2 then 4/3 alternating repeating.

2d6 * 3/2 = 3d6
3d6 * 4/3 = 4d6
4d6 * 3/2 = 6d6
6d6 * 4/3 = 8d6
8d6 * 3/2 = 12d6
12d6 * 4/3 = 16d6
16d6 * 3/2 = 24d6
24d6 * 4/3 = 32d6

Pretty much everything that enables unarmed strikes to count as one size larger includes text to the effect "than your actual size" - which means they do not stack. Improved Natural Attack does not do this, but do check the Battlefist wording carefully."A warforged monk who uses a battlefist deals increased unarmed damage as though the character were one size larger than actual."

He's actually Large. Battlefist increases that to effectively Huge. Improved Natural Attack increases that to effectively Gargantuan (since, as you said, it doesn't include that clause).

Thus it fits.

It's 3/2 then 4/3 then 3/2 then 4/3 then 3/2 then 4/3 alternating repeating.

Or what he said.
Works out to the same thing (3/2 * 4/3 = 2)

It's the lower progressions that can get all weird (especially when you have d10's or d12's)
