Hey all. I have a puzzle in mind that I am needing some help for. The group, assuming they find it, enter into a circular room, with a raised dais in the center. On the dais are 7+ levers, each of which has a short, quasi-poetic phrase written in an archaic form of elven under it, comparing an emotion/mental state to a color. For example;

Crimson red is the color of wrath
Wrathful fury, strength and passion

Underneath all of these is something saying something along the lines of 'Only those with complete purity of heart shall find what they seek'. On the other side of the room is a doorway filled with blackness. Darkvision cannot see through it, and abilities that allow you too see through magical darkness also cannot see through it (the reason being it isn't the absence of light, the room is lit with literal black light). Whenever you throw one of the switches, the other room is lit with a new color. When all are flipped, the room is black. In order to pass, the room must be lit with white light. Any other color, and the only door is the one leading into it. In addition, anyone who enters the room while lit with any color of light other than black or white must make a Will save or be overcome with the associated emotion, plus another effect that ties with that. For instance, in a lust room they start feeling very lusty and see something they find extremely sexually appealing, whereas in the greed color they see massive piles of treasure and feel as though they must keep it, and count it, and guard it to make sure no one else takes it. The party has to find the combination of emotion/mental states to produce 'purity' (white light). Any advice, comments, or input in other forms would be welcome. Thanks.

If your players are not bound by conventions, the first thing do to in black room after they know it's "black light" is to Detect Magic and find a source of black light, optionally destroying it. The next is to have some good cover from that "light", have some normal light under the cover and search for secret doors, then break through said doors by pure force.

More traditional way is to first think that white contains all colors, especially if there are 7 of them, and try "all on" setting and, if it does not work, try "most on" settings. I am not sure if it would be easy to guess that we're adding emotions, not colors. Anyway, at one pull of a switch per two rounds, it's solvable by an exhaustive search in about one hour.

Beautiful thing about the secret door thing, the exit isn't a secret door. It's a magic portal that isn't there unless the light is the right color. :biggrin:
