InuSaga
2006-12-16, 03:54 PM
Illiander, I have never understood the solution to that. You're supposed to ask one, "If I asked him, would he tell me that this path leads to certain destruction?" Then, if he answers yes, you take the opposite path. If the answerer was the one that always told the truth, then he would tell you that the other guy would say yes that was the path to certain destruction even if it wasn't. But, if he's the one that always lies and he says yes, then . . . I'm not explining this right. It makes absolutely no sense no matter how I try to figure it out.

So, back to the questions. Finish this quote: "Vomit now . . ."

It makes absolutely no sense no matter how I try to figure it out.

ok here's my best explination

you have to assume that they know each other (so that they know that the other one will always tell the truth/lie), and that they take their definition of 'lie' very literally

if you ask the guy who tells the truth, then he will tell you exactly what the other guy will say, which is a lie. If you ask the guy who always lies, then he will lie about what the other guy will say, and since the other guy always tells the truth, he wil just plain lie. So you will always get a lie.

now, it you understood all that, what question do you ask when there are 3 people and you know 2 of them always lie? (I'm not asking the really nasty one where you have one guy who always lies, one guy who always tells the truth, and one guy who sometimes lies, cos I don't understand how that one works)

pita

I'll explain the 3 people, one lies, one truth, and one is an a-hole.
What you do is you ask them "If I asked you if the one most to the right tells truth, what would you say?" The one who tells lies will tell truth, and the one who tells truth tells truth. Now, the one who disaggrees with the other two tells both truth and lies, and not only that, but if they agree that that is not the one who tells truth, you can repeat for the one on the left.
My ideas were to keep asking them random questions about things that are obvious so I eventually luck out.

My ideas were to keep asking them random questions about things that are obvious so I eventually luck out.
I posted this already in the #327 discussion thread, but never mind, I don't mind repeating myself :elan:

Let's state the problem more precisely. Three people, one tells the truth, one lies, one is free to tell the truth or lie as he chooses. You have two questions. Your solution requires six, as you've asked two questions to each of the three.

Solution: first ask A, "Is B more truthful than C?" If A says yes, then either (1) he's the truthteller, so B is neutral, C the liar; (2) he's neutral; or (3) he's the liar, so B is neutral and C is the truthteller. Either way, you know C is not neutral. If A instead says no, by precisely the same reasoning, B is not neutral.

For the second question, ask the one whom you know is not neutral, "If I were to ask you which is the correct road, what would you say?" The truthteller would indicate the correct road and tells you this. The liar would indicate the wrong road, but he lies about which road he would indicate, so he also tells you the correct road.

And the most injuries on a single poor sod goes to:
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0201.html Roy, by Miko!
Sabine couldn't cut Roy up that bad.
In fact, a dragon couldn't cut Haley up that bad.
Even V can't do that much scarring, to a Chimera, with Evan's Spiked Tentacles of Forced Intrusion.
Miko and Belkar tore into eachother up but good, and they barely beat him out when combined.
Miko versus Redcloak was another nasty one, and if you count the scratches on her foot, they're quite the contenders. Still, it's not a team competition.

(Notice it's the Miko fights that have all the best gore?)

Honorable mention: This would the "trick question" answer.

My guess is #105 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0105.html). 3 panels, 1 issue, 1 page.

The honorable mention is #274 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0274.html), because one of its pages is a single panel, though its second page bumps the total panels to five.
Edit: Okay, illiander spotted this one, but the one-panel first page is worth something!

There was a similar question earlier on which was similarly obscure. As it happens, some people just have photographic memories.

I think that one's only two panels. The thing that LOOKS like a division near Durkon is actually part of the doorframe (the twisted remains of the door that Roy broke down in the previous strip are behind all of them), just as is the vertical line behind Belkar.

So you're almost-certainly correct on shortest # of panels, though the count is 2, not 3.

Belkar, impalement.

Now then, I have two questions. What is the first creature we see that has green eyes, and when do we see a character with light blue hair?

Dracolisk! http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0055.html
NPC with... well, not very light blue hair... http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0238.html
But the next-best I could find was Poseiden, so meerrh!

The longest strip name is If a Druid Falls in the City, Does He Make a Noise?

Now, my turn:

What are the names of the, not 2, 3 or 4, but of the FIVE actors mentionned in OotS?

(with a link to each one of them)

Actually Demented, you were technically right about both of those, but I was referring to the earliest mention of both the green eyed monster and the blue haired kid. And yes, their are earlier comics of both those creatures/comics.

And just because I want to throw another question out there... Who can name all the comics that contain NPC's that have Roy's head?

Hint... There are at least two.

Actually, "If a Druid falls in the forest, does it make a noise?" is 12-words long, making it the longest title name (if you count in WORDS à la "Order of the stick", such as "It's" is only 1 word)

Now, my legit (and diabolical) question: who are the 5 actors mentionned in OotS?

Elijah Woods, Patrick Swayze, Vin Deisel, Warwick Davis, and Lou Ferrigno. Don't remember when I saw Davis, but Woods is mentioned when the ninja's leg is cut off I think, Swayze is mentioned by Roy's father ("Who did you expect, Patrick Swayze?"), Deisel is mentioned by Elan when he and Roy jump ("Just like a Vin Deisel movie!"), and Ferrigno is mentioned by Belkar when Roy destroys Xykon ("Who knew all you had to do was break his sword and he'd go Lou Ferrigno.")

Dave, from Kansas City (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0121.html).

Now for a fairly easy one, but be specific: which two characters have had "problems communicating" with the rest of the party, and in which strips did they LOSE their abilities to communicate easily? (be careful. Not the strips in which everybody REALIZED that they lost their communications abilities. It's different in both cases)

Gather information when Miko SLAUGHTERED INNOCENTS?... there's no need to wave that sword around... she helped the greater good! (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0189.html)
Does gather information count? I've only used it once in my life, when size modifiers to intimidate ruined another skill (Guess which?)
I do not recall another nonexistent skill. Craft Disturbing Image was indeed a feat, not a skill.

In answer to the Origins question I rejected, since I got it for Christmas (see signature), the answer is Mr. Swordanboard (pg 28). I have also, in my usual selfish manner, decided to loosen the restrictions:

An Origins question must:

1) Be mentioned in a Wikipedia article on OOTS or a character.

2) Be in a flashback
Example: How did Durkon leave his homeland?
(Quote shirts, like What does Durkon think human beer tastes like, are a gray area.)

or

3) Be an optional question, and specifically noted as an Origins question.

I suppose the blindingly obvious (On V's application form, what bit of info was blotted out?) is acceptable too.

I'm sure we can all agree that these are fair rules. If you would like to make an adjustment, go right ahead.
Also, can we move this to another thread? It's getting kind of long...

Wait, the reason I didn't ask a question was because the name of the temple was different, and if I was wrong, I didn't want anyone to get confused.

Also, the Haley thing is highly subjective. For instance, she could have not chosen Elan here:http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0002.html due to nervousness about being next-to alone with Elan.
