Ok, so I am reflavoring the Wu-Jen a bit for our Dwarven Wu-Jen, because most of the elements seem to represent a part of dwarfish culture to me. Earth represents their underground home, Metal represents craftsmanship, Fire represents the forge, Water represents life as all life needs water to survive, but Wood is giving me problems. What can I have wood represent that isn't completely outclassed by the other elements?

Wood is roots that patiently dig into the toughest soil, the beams that hold up mountains in a mine tunnel. Water gives way too easily, while metal is dead and brittle. Wood is the strength that bends but does not break.

That's...actually quite good.

*doffs hat*

I would only add that roots, given time, will break apart stone. Wood is the strength of life and patience.
