This is going to be a community world. The first thing to vote on is what type of world this is.
Below are the current choices. If anyone wants to add more, suggest one before it's been decided what's going to be used.

1. Earthlike: Grassland, Forests, Mountains
2. Desert: Sand, sand, and more sand
3. Forest: Trees, trees, and more trees
4. Underwater: Water, water, and more water (sensing a trend?)
5. Mountainous: Mountains, mountains, and, yes, more mountains
6. Icy: Ice, ice, and- wait, there's some snow too.

This will be decided once one setting gets five votes.
You may only vote once.
My vote: Earthlike.

Edit: By the way, I am checking this once a day, so don't be upset if you post a vote and it doesn't count because it turns out there were already five votes for a choice and I just hadn't checked yet that day.

My vote is for sand, just so that cities are rare, and you aren't likely to find a village. and so quests are more interesting and have more long term effects, could you imagine if you kill a dragon, loot the cave, and find a spring, and as you keep playing, a city grows around the cave YOU cleared.

Earth like with more water.

I'll vote for underwater, but I'm kind of more interested in a world where land is scarce and ocean is everywhere than a world that is actually under the water.

I like mountainous.

I second mountains. Interesting architecture/monsters. Besides, I never get to use climb.

OK, here's the votes so far:
Earthlike:1
Earthlike 1*: 1
Desert: 1
Forest: 1
Underwater: 0
Underwater 1**: 1
Mountainous: 3
Icy: 0

* It has been suggested that this world would be Earthlike, but with more water. If you agree, vote for "Earthlike 1".

** It has been suggested that this world would be Underwater, but land would be scarce rather than nonexistent. If you agree, vote for "Underwater 1".

Mountains please!

Looks like Mountainous wins, then! We'll have a mountainous world. Now for, as The Giant says, style. What's different about this world? What could someone explore in this world that they couldn't in any other? For this one, I would especially encourage you to add your own idea. Here are my ideas:

1. Women rule the world.
2. Humans are an unimportant race.
3. Dwarves and Elves are best buddies (Screw you, Tolkien!).
4. It is doubted that gods exist.
5. Elves and Eladrin are actually just different types of Half-Gnomes.
6. Gnomes are the powerful wizards and Eladrin are tricksters.

My vote is for women ruling the world.

Could you explain what you mean by option 4? Are the majority of the population irreligious or is it just that most mortals can't be 100% sure?

ArlEammon
2013-08-02, 12:08 AM
Why not just have Amazons rule a country to themselves? Sort of like an Uber threat like the Red Wizards of Thay!

I'd say 1 on the basis it will end in bloodshed, with or without major coups, my people will mess it up, this just makes the messing up so major, they'll probably thing that they might be the villains. as here's what their logic is, does the world fit with their ideals, if yes leave politicians to their own devices, if no, plan coup, gather supporters, do coup, install democracy, watch as new society works, iron out errors (eliminate threats), leave approved government to own devices and check every so often.

also just an thought, maybe women dominate society because men are so rare, meaning they cannot be relied upon to be there, they are needed too much for other work. they don't have time to rule. this could change society to a very different model, where men are almost entirely there to breed alone. a very unusual style.

also dwarfs if nothing else. plz.

I like this idea too, that men are extremely rare, perhaps some carefully guarded treasure or maybe they don't exist at all and are an ancient legend, with female nations reproducing through some magical ritual.

The votes so far:
1: 3
2: 0
3: 0
4: 0
5: 0
6: 0

New Idea:
7. Women rule an amazonian country: 1

Also, by number 4, I meant that some people are spreading the idea that maybe the gods don't exist, but it's still rare enough for people to believe it that clerics and paladins still exist.

AcerbicOrb
2013-08-03, 08:10 AM
I'm going to go for 7.

Mithril Leaf
2013-08-03, 11:46 PM
If we go the route that men are rare enough to mainly be breeding stock, with women doing all the ruling and fighting (almost like an ant queen perhaps?), I'd vote 1, since I've liked that style ever since I read about Harpies in Xanth. If we'd have generic Amazon female ruling, I vote for Humans being rare.
In either case, humans shouldn't be by far the dominant race, unlike nearly every other setting.

Wait, Mithril Leaf, are you voting for 1, 2, or 7? Or are you suggesting a new idea?

Amblehook
2013-08-04, 10:54 AM
Well I would be interested in seeing a campaign where all the different societies are matriarchal, and an Amazonian nation doesn't seem like enough of a paradigm change, so I'd like to vote for number 1.

Alexkubel
2013-08-04, 12:21 PM
how I see things is
1: lots of fights, some major battles many natives dead, anarchy
2: some major battles, many natives dead, anarchy
3: lots of bar fights, end of peace between elves and dwarfs, anarchy
4: lots of drinking, bit of fighting, leave to avoid being arrested for murder
5: the final solution to the elvish problem, lots of elves dead
6: see 4
7: coup, lots of fighting, stabilised government.

and that's how my players will probably go though the world

Thunderfist12
2013-08-05, 10:03 AM
I choose number 4.

Mithril Leaf
2013-08-06, 06:35 AM
Wait, Mithril Leaf, are you voting for 1, 2, or 7? Or are you suggesting a new idea?

I'm voting for 1 under the qualifier that it's done in way that isn't already done to death and boring, namely generic amazonian women for everything. Thus, my backup vote was for 2. I also stated that two wouldn't conflict with 1, and work probably work well with it in fact.

Death by DM

Well then, 1 wins! For Religion:

1. Law God, Chaos God
2. Good God, Evil God
3. Huge Pantheon

Suggest ideas! I vote 1.

Jimlad
2013-08-09, 08:15 AM
I've always been fascinated by large celestial bodies in strange orbits with each other. So, I'd have to vote for something like 1, you have the 3 law gods, (three moons in an orbit around each other.) And the 2 chaos gods. (binary sun.)
This would be interesting as a binary star I could see causing earthquakes, tidal waves, all that sort of thing, while the moons keep a sort of balance with it, and help keep the planet stable and the waters sane.

Vote for 3. . .

I suggest a Good God, and Evil God, both of these encompass three alignments instead of 1.

Also three Law gods for the lawful alignments, three Chaos gods for the chaotic alignments. . .

And Gods Of Fire, Earth, Wind, Water, Thunder, Ice, And even Plants and Animals.

A God of War, then Beauty, Healing, Knowledge (Including Magic), Craft, Travel, Death, and finally, maybe the Celestial bodies (Sun and Moon, not Stars, yet).

Yeah... I was in a rush when I posted those options... I promise soon I'll put up votes so far, but I'm too lazy.....anyways, if anyone that hasn't voted sees something that someone suggested, feel free to vote for that.

Thunderfist12

Thunderfist12 wants a large pantheon.

Mithril Leaf
2013-08-12, 06:00 PM
If it's a community world, having a huge pantheon means every two bit homebrewer (such as myself) can toss a minor god in. So that's where my vote goes.

I'm in favor of option 3 as well. I'd love to have many minor deities, like Jeff, the god of biscuits.

Alexkubel

umm 3, I second Jeff god of biscuits, and have Joe god of Cookies his/her brother/sister

so many gods so many choices.

Death by DM

That's actually SIX people for a large pantheon with in general gods decided by the DM. Now for system- this step is only here to determine what races and classes are worked in. I assume the world could easily be adapted for another system, but it's good to have a base idea.

1: 4.0
2: 3.5

As these are the only systems I'm familiar with, these are the systems I'm suggesting. If anyone has an older system they would like this world to use, please suggest it.
My vote: 1.

Jimlad

Thunderfist12
2013-08-19, 04:09 PM
I'll be different. I like the idea of a mixture: use 3.5, plus shadar-kai and dragonborn from 4e, and replace Darkvision with Low-light vision like they did in 4e. Also, psionics should be a major part of the setting. That's option #3, the Way of Thunderfist12.

Mithril Leaf
2013-08-22, 05:41 AM
Another 3.5 vote. Maybe some homebrew systems.

Death by DM
2013-08-23, 07:02 PM
Yeah, it's 3.5. Now for races. First, humans. Do we want humans?

1. Yes.
2. No.
For a New Idea you can say rule changes. (NOT culture changes, that comes later)

My Vote: 1

Sabeki

2. Stupid hoomies, sticking der noses in lizardfolk business.

Amblehook

Alexkubel

Humans have a very low birth rate, and as such very few of them actually exist.

Mithril Leaf
2013-08-25, 12:46 PM
I'd vote yes humans, but rare.

kopout
2013-08-25, 10:03 PM
2. Humans are old hat, lets try something new (if we must have them I also vote rare)

Death by DM
2013-08-31, 09:35 AM
Sorry, human-haters, that's a yes. Now for elves:

1. Yes
2. No

Please avoid "elves, but rare" or "elves, but with extra pointy ears" and the like. "Aquatic elves" or "fire elves" are fine, though. See the difference? Rule change, not culture change. Also, please note the rule changes this might bring about, so people know the mechanical differences of this change.

My vote: 2.

Alexkubel
2013-08-31, 01:01 PM
