Does anyone know of a website where someone has written down homebrew / houserules for the cost, time and skill rolls involved in researching a new spell? Or would anyone like to post their own here?

My DM likes to base his decisions on what other people have written and tried out, so we're looking for an extant and complete set of rules (which, of course, doesn't exist in 3.5 itself).

Pathfinder has a few different takes on it, one general (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic#TOC-Research-and-Designing-Spells) and one for the downtime system (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/other-rules/downtime#TOC-Research-a-Spell).

The new Ultimate Campaign spelled them out as mentioned above.

Happy to be of help .

It should be noted that the 'downtime' spell research rules are designed to work in campaigns where the the entire party is given significant amounts of 'downtime' to do all kinds of things (retrain feats, improve HP, run businesses etc), so the research time is significantly longer. If you're worried the rest of the party will grow impatient, I'd suggest using the general rules.

All that said, the downtime rules themselves are a very interesting read and probably wouldn't be too hard to port over to 3.5. I'm using the rules set in my current campaign and my players love them.
