I just discovered that a lot of my program's lag is from me putting in a wrong number for the duration of a note.

I have yet to discover which one or how many, and the song is Frozen Hillside on piano.

How many? That is an idea. Can you use a word counter to count how many times each number is written in the code? If there is a number which is only used once it is probably the wrong number.

Well, I already found out that I rounded .9 down instead of up for some reason, and that helped, but... didn't fix it entirely, and then I ran out of time. Going to go through it some more tomorrow.

Well, in that case, you either try and force yourself into overcoming your obsessive compulsiveness, or you look for a medium to derive more enjoyment from. Not everyone has to be into scribbling, after all...

Although I guess I could do a well-crafted (-) rendition of a ☼«☼Gold Amulet☼»☼...

I imagine it to be inlaid, but I suggest you go with whatever pleases your imagination the most...

Well, you play games to entertain yourself, don't you? Accomplishing things of note is just a means to achieve entertainment, it should never supercede it.

Indeed. I shall leave the scribbling to those who gain more enjoyment from it.

Hmm... If memory serves me correctly... Dwarves do make artworks celebrating the creation of other artworks (They're derivative that way). So it's more than plausible that if a very nice amulet were created, they'd copy it.
Of course... I'm probably completely wrong...

Inlaid does seem to make the most sense. While emerald is probably not the best choice for inlay, I can see it now... They would use emerald in varying shades of green to create a highly detailed image. There would be dozens of tiny pieces making what is essentially a mosaic.

I can't think of any other valid reason to play a game...

It isn't too strange, I think. I've never played anything other than the alto sax except for a brief learning period before that where I played a recorder. I've never considered playing another instrument, I just love my saxophone. I don't think I know how to compare well, but I found a lot of what I had to do with the sax in band to be really cool and exciting, though at times it did get to be a little overwhelming. Plus my past band teachers were always interesting. One teacher had us put a song together out of other song parts like Smoke on the Water, the Imperial March theme, and the Batman theme just to name a few. Another teacher always had us play a Pirates of the Caribbean medley, which was fun but dang was it rough to learn. :smalleek:

It was, for the most part. :smalltongue:

Eh... The recorder hardly counts.
I suppose I'm just lucky to have a Great Aunt who is a retired piano teacher. She needed to make arrangements for one of her spare pianos, so she gave it to us. This reminds me of a humorous story when I was getting ready to do one of my exams... They telephoned and asked if we had gotten her teaching registration number wrong because it was so low.
It often is with Alto. Tenor not so much, though in later years I started getting more interesting parts. And yes. Band teachers are the best. I've always had good ones, even the ones we had when my primary school teacher was away having one of her children.
Hmm... We did Pirates of the Caribbean a couple of times. It was always fun, though tricky in parts. Though by later years, I'd done it a few times already, so rehearsal was more for the younger members of my old youth band.

Excellent.

ION:Total War is HAAAAARD.:smallfrown:

Which is exactly why I play it on easy. It makes my life so much more fun.

Guided tour of anime? From Zodi, you mean? It was clear as mud, but that's more due to the nature of the anime than Zodi's presentation, which was excellent.

I could be Charlie Brown, but I fancy myself more as Linus. The wise counselor-type, who is nevertheless childish and clingy.

Integer rounding. I assume you just casted your floating point number to an int without calling any rounding methods, yes? Because if you actually want it rounded, and not just truncated, I suggest Math.round(n).

Connect it to your computer with a USB cable (if it's an android, one should theoretically be possible to plunder from the charger), and open Computer (or My Computer if it's an XP). Under the listed hard drives, the phone should appear. Open it, and you'll see a long list of different folders. I guess there should be one named DCIM (if there isn't, you'll have to start looking by yourself), which contains all pictures taken with the camera. Just copy the ones you want and move them to a place of your own choice, and you're done.

Sometimes it's better to not get involved, no matter how much you want to help. I've had to put myself on a strict "listen but don't get yourself involved" regimen to not break myself further than I've already done. Human error, actually, and then I copypasted the line - it's in the constructor call for a quarter-note.

Thanks, though - that plus what I was already doing sparked an idea to almost completely eliminate cumulative rounding errors, if it works.

Cumulative rounding errors may be eliminated by keeping whatever variable is supposed to accumulate values a float or a double, and only round it when you need an integer value.

Monopoly, the way most people play it, is that money paid to the bank is put on free parking, and someone who lands on free parking gets it. This is the most classic house rule. It's also just that, a houserule.

Additionally, the intent of the game is to end the instant someone goes bankrupt, then they add together all the property that they own. Additionally, when you land on a property and do NOT buy it, it goes to Auction. This speeds the game up nicely, but everyone forgets this rule.

I bring up all this stuff because playing Monopoly with those house rules, makes the game take longer. Monopoly is a game where, if it goes on to long, someone is dying.

Feytalist
2013-08-14, 03:28 AM
I've never even heard of those house rules. My family, like, reads the rulebook.

The only thing we used to do is put a timer on the game. After whatever time, the person with the most money + stuff = win.

TheWombatOfDoom
2013-08-14, 05:37 AM
Me and monopoly don't have a good history. I used to play it with my family. My brother would always steal money when he thought no one was looking, my sister would always try and cheat, and my grandmother didn't ever truly understand the rules, and was often confused, even when I tried to explain them to her. She'd also go by the other two's example, and so would end up playing wrong. So there I was, trying to play a game, and being thwarted at every turn by corruption or the un-knowledged...rage quit.

Well, an engraving depicting a famous engraving is kind of copying the original design... So... If they made an amulet depicting a famous amulet, it would be like them using the design of the original and surrounding it with a border or something...

Indeed. That is how one separates the truly exceptional craftsmanship from the merely excellent.

Addicted? Probably not. I just have nothing else to do at the moment, or indeed most other moments.

Anyway... I really need to get to sleep. I blame Mynxae for all these late nights.

Which unfortunately cuts into my length of wakefulness during the day. Damnation! I had things I wanted to do today!
Oh well... Goodnight all. I hope all those to whom it applied enjoyed their Ekka holiday.
Yes, that is a word.

Morning everybody.

How you all doing?

This morning my family discovered that on the platform between our 2 stairs, there was a plastic bag with a wrapper of some chocolate something. Why would it matter. BECAUSE IT ATTRACTED AN AWFUL LOT OF ANTS THERE!!!!! So me and my little sister spent a chunk of our morning brushing stuff off the carpets, killing ants, and sweeping the place.

When I get my hands on the culprit who left that wrapper there....... :smallfurious:

You did not bring in a chicken to clean up the ants, Drakeburn? Or are ants too small for a chicken to eat? And LaZodiac is right. Ants are slow to understand that the food is gone. I use bleach where I can to get rid of the ant acid. Borax would work but every time I find a place to buy that it's not in the same place next time. It's annoying.

Well, the ants have their natural defense against the chickens, which make them very unpopular snacks.

But what I'm concerned about is my cat. I don't want to use any sort of chemicals that could affect the poor thing.

I don't believe cats are attracted to borax, but you'll want to double check that, of course. It's usually pretty effective if you use it to draw a line to break their scent trails and also to make the area they were congregating into a barren wasteland of death. ...As I recall anyway.

I don't think you want to just use it willy-nilly outside though, so there's probably some reading on the subject to do.

In Somewhat Related News: My broseph is planning on acquiring chickens. Any particular resources you would recommend I point him towards?

Ants have complex societies that are better than many, if not most, human ones. You should try to live in harmony with the little things, not to kill them!

EDIT: Actually, I was thinking of bees. With ants, it depends on the specific variety of ant; it holds true for many of them, but not all.

I like modern board games better than Monopoly. Even Settlers of Catan does not last as long. It does raise some bad feelings though. One guy is not allowed to put down the number pieces any more. He left all the 9s and almost all the 5s in the box. It was a very long game and it had almost no sheep.

I agree but I have not found a way to interrupt ant paths without hurting ants. :smallfrown: The path markers come from their bodies so the bodies must be kept away for long enough for the markers to fade. Ants will continue to walk and mark the path. Bees do not leave food markers so just removing the food is enough to break the path.

Well guys, guess what...... You were right. The same spot where everyone stomped on the ants got infested with even more ants.

But my mother took care of the situation with Di(something) Earth (I think it might be Diatomaceous Earth). The stuff works like a natural bug killer. Bad for bugs, and harmless to cats (and edible for humans, so I hear).

The ants started dying the moment the stuff got sprinkled around the place.

Nice. Something you also could of done is followed the trail back, and found a place where they were moving towards your house but not yet IN your house, and just sprayed a super powerful scent all over it. Since Ant's...don't really see much like we do, and act more like robots, the pheromone scent is like programming. Pouring some bleach on the path is like breaking the programming.

Actually, high water may come because the house is so cheap because of flooding... But I shouldn't have to worry about water coming through it, only covering the lawn. But not even that will stop me!
Anyway... The good thing is I won't even have to get a job that makes me all that much money. Things are looking up, and soon, Elemental may end up owner of his own house.

There was an article in Discovery recently about a gentleman doing research with funky uses for fungus. One of them, to deal with his own ant infestation, was to leave out rice inoculated with a particular strain. The ants came, took it back to their nest, and all died horribly (well the article didn't say they died horribly, but there is no death involving fungus that is pleasant) -- and furthermore, the scent trails of their deaths kept away further infestation.

The best part of the article was his hat, which was made from a kind of mushroom. I wants it.

Flooding is OK if it only floods the yard. Here it is normal to keep a few sandbags around during the wet season to keep calm even if the house is higher than the yard and some strong ant spray to make a fence before the ants try to cross it when they climb away from the yard. We looked at a house here that had flooding problems though. It was the wet season and the house smelled like the drains had gone backwards. I did not pick that house. :smallyuk:

Plots have people who work all day and all night on their evil goals. That isn't realistic. There is one person working on the evil goal and two people making lolcats with their evil symbol and ten people sharing pictures of evil symbol lolcats. :smalltongue:

Heh, you seem to have played SimAnt at a level far higher than I ever reached. I only remember not quite understanding it on Super Nintendo. But being strangely fascinated by it at the same time. So like... in playing that game, were you taking the role of the queen?

Ninjant, perhaps? Which comes of the verb ninjare. Te ninjo!

Mabel is a little alarm clock. If I stay in bed any later than 10:00, then she starts to tweet from under her blanket. But otherwise she wakes up when I take the blanket off. I hear a lot of people "complain" about their birds starting to chirp noisily really early in the morning, though. I want that.

It's been over five hours since your post! Did you finish? Are you alright? Do you require a fluff supplement to relax, or perhaps a nibble to stimulate your epinephrine?

Oh, it went quite well. Our achievement didn't seem quite as bad in comparison to the others', and even though it was a quite chaotic presentation (we have a guy who don't quite know how to control his language. Or volume), I at least think I preformed adequately.

Also, not quite off the hook it seems, because I've taken it upon myself to go through all the code and polish it up to an acceptable standard. Judging from the great sighs of relief from my team members, I think I may have quite a task ahead of me. And judging from the sheer unsimplicity of their solution to implementing a repeating counter from 0 to 3, I think I've got a good idea of what I'm working with...

Still, I've gotten some of my energy back, so I think I should be able to manage it with enthusiasm...

Mabel gave me a good one this morning, right on the inside of my nose. It's a good way to wake right up.

Hehehe, that I can imagine... ;3

ION:
Spent gaming night roleplaying over at gaming club. We played Boot Hill, which is a really deadly Western RPG from the 70's. Since I was new, I rolled up a character who turned out to be quite a veteran from the civil war, and not all too terrible in his stats, even though some of the other's were exceptional. Also, his European ancestors emigrated way back, and we all joked that it must've been Eric the Red. Sure enough, I roll Norway on the table of ancestry, and thus came the surname Ericsson.

We started in a cantina somewhere indetermined (later we decided that the others hadn't left Mexico since their previous adventures, so we were in Mexico). I sit in a corner when the others stamp in, and I start chatting with them because it's nice to hear someone speak English (I know no Spanish, have no idea of what I'm ever doing in Mexico, and hate this place in overall). The others have barely sitten down before a large gang of 12 heavily armed Mexicans enter the room and starts bullying the bartender (cantinatender?) and one local, who they also knock unconscious. If you've ever played this game, you know that you probably should sit this one out, because even Mexicans with little skill and poor quality weaponry are deadly Mexicans.

Well, whoever designed that scenario didn't design it for this group, and sure enough, a simultaneous brawl and gunfight breaks out. My character wasn't the best with the revolver, but saw nothing else to do but to help. I didn't succeed with much but getting hit once in the abdomen (nothing too serious), one guy got shot in the head and was saved by nothing else but the sheer amount of awesome (hero points) he'd built up, while another was gunned to the ground (but not dead), but we manage to kill the gang leader and kill or injure half of the goons (dad's character manage to jam one's skull through the brain with his bare fists), so the others run away.

So, we wake up the should-be-dead guy on the floor, and the gunned-down guy sits up and orders a whiskey, while another guy tries to interrogate the bartender and the bullied/knocked-unconscious local, while dad's character keeps a watch out for more trouble. Sure enough, a gringo of undetermined origin walks up and asks him if he's someone-whose-name-I've-forgotten. Dad tries to play it cool and says that it depends, while keeping his revolver ready under the poncho he nicked from one of the Mexicans. Well, the gringo just responds by gunning him to the floor, and then tries to take out the rest of us inside the Cantina. I actually manage to be useful and puts a bullet in his head, even though it only does non-serious damage, but it makes him retreat.

We then run out and I try to make him surrender while another one of us just unsuccessfully tries to kill him (not an entirely awesome aim, and a long series of really bad rolls throughout the entire session). Well, the guy is stubborn and still tries to raise his revolver, so the others gun him down before we could interrogate him.

So, we wake dad's character up. We now have three guys down at 1 hp (barely conscious) each. Our least wounded guy tries to interrogate one of the dancers on the unknown gunman's whereabouts, but she's to shaken, and the same applies to the barkeeper. He does, however, hear horses. I let my character go and check it out before we try and make a hasty retreat, and find myself facing a rather well-clad but no less armed group of Mexicans at the door. Seeing that we have no way of managing another fight, I just act scared and stammer.

Well, after a bit of another guy conversing in Spanish, it was made clear that the head of the group owned a hacienda out of town and was quite grateful for us cleaning up that criminal gang, so he invited us over, had his personel tend to our wounds and hired us to track down his daughter, and that's where we called it a night. At the end of the day, I ended up with 12% better accuracy with my revolver, and enough gunfights below my belt to be considered a veteran (I'd already gone through 4 in the war), which is all kinds of nice (for one, our game master only lets you make new decisions during the course of a turn if you are a veteran).

All in all, it was a great night. Tons of fun and lots of truly silly tales of what happened in the past. Also, there seems to be a stunning lack of holsters in this world, half of our group seemed to be on an active hunt for some...

Was it the house you showed me? Aww, I was rooting for you to get it. What kind of a house did your family get?

Also, may I please see the opal you bought? I think it only fair, since I was kind enough not to swipe the necklace you got for your mother.

No, I wanted to buy a different one for myself. I couldn't hope to afford that one on my own. Maybe if it's still on the market in the future. I'll send you a link to the house I was thinking of maybe buying...
As for the house my family got... I'm not particularly fond of it because it's tiny and I was hoping we'd get something with more country charm, but alas... It is dull.

I've been trying... But I still have no available means of putting such a photograph on the Internet. Mynxae has assured me that he plans to acquire such a method eventually, if only for his own purposes, but I rather doubt he will any time soon.

ION: Will be singing today in front of an audience. Oh dear heavens, why.

You already don't get quite enough sleep as it is... :smalltongue: But no, I'm excited for you.

You could build a moat. :smallcool:

I wish I could play any sort of music like that... alas.

I was too. Until I found out that someone else is buying my house...

Hmm... That would keep my enemies out. At least until they ready their siege equipment...

Neither can I. At least... I don't think I have any sheet music of a celebratory nature. My computer on the other hand has access to plenty of celebratory music.

Sooooo. I'm making plans to propose to my girlfriend...and it's really exciting. I just wish I had a bit more money to wiggle with.

Congratulations Mr. Wombat! Good luck to the both of you!

Thats useful. I feel sad for the ants, however. My time in SimAnt has not been wasted, apperently.:smallamused:

And now I want to play SimAnt. That game was so fun! Alas... I can't remember if I have a working copy anywhere...

:smallyuk:

Hmm... I hadn't considered the possibility that wildlife would try and take refuge in my house... I suppose I can deal with such an event if it arises.
Otherwise, I saw the flooding as a mild bonus as it would provide my lawn with ample water such that it wouldn't die completely during the dry seasons and as such come back with the rain.

"Greetings, House Owner! <Threat!>" :smalltongue:

Unfortunately, threatening people is generally frowned upon. I did briefly consider trying the old haunted house tactic, but that would require too much effort and planning on my part. Plus, it's a stupid idea.

If anyone has any advice or ideas, I'm all ears!

*Singing things*
I'm glad your concert event thing went well! Gàidhlig singing sounds wonderfully dreamy. I haven't sang in front of an audience (save perhaps a botched kareoke or two) in years. I think its been 8 years, actually. :smalleek: Oh my, time. You are moving much to quickly. :smallsigh: I miss actually being able to sing. My voice has gone to crap while not training and singing constantly and such. I never thought I was great, but I was certainly better than the out of tune, grating thing I have now. :smallyuk:

*Housing things*
Blast! I'm sorry that fell through. I could sick some large marsupials on them for you? Though I can't ensure that the house wouldn't be destroyed afterwards. Sort of an "if you can't have it - no one can" situation. Are there any other options of housing right now? Look on the bright side - if it floods in a year, you'll be happy you didn't take it, no matter what kind of floors it had.

Improv is a GM's best friend, so long as they can do it. I've known GM's who had to have everything written down, filling notebooks with "script" and such. I'm mostly the polar opposite. I do usually map out things like areas of interest, or the area or some such...maybe have a few sentences on how the personality of an NPC is...but I find players are ADD at the best of times, and I've developed my style to account for that. Vintage white gold sounds good. If it's aged a bit, the colour's already changed, and that's pretty. On the other hand, even "fresh" white gold isn't all that expensive, and that looks good as well. Plus you can have it made in the shape and settings you want without altering it. Really, the only advice I can give is "have a jeweler friend". Not very helpful, I'm aware :smalltongue:

But really, if you have a friendly jeweler, they can give much better advice than we can, and you can sit with them and plan the whole thing from scratch. Including inscriptions and whatnot.

Well, starting from scratch is really the issue, as it's quite expensive, at least with the jewelers I've spoken with. I'm more looking to see if anyone knew of a reliable place online that sold vintage ring settings. Looking myself, but someone vouching for a specific place would make me feel better. I'd go to an antique store, but I'm again wary of being convinced something is a certain metal, and then turns out not to be or some such. :smallsigh:

Indeed. My planning generally consists of statblocks (only a handful)+maps (two, tops)+initial plot hook. The players do the rest of the hard work, meeting and interacting with NPCs... that generates so many things for me to use. The story all goes in my head; but it's pretty simple to keep track of a few NPC's motivations and goals.

This game sounds amazing, is there anywhere I can find this? Then again I may be embroiled in enough games for now. Still, just looking at it would be cool. Glad you had a fun game, going to have any more sessions like this to tell us about at some point?

ION: Session went well. Improvising is easy when you don't have to make a whole city from scratch! (...and when the players leave lots of loose ends to tie up). Scared the hell out of my players at least three times. :smallcool:

IOON: OCMS concert was good fun. Wish I could've been on the floor, though; the people in the stands were boring. I was probably one of the only people standing up there for the whole show. *shakes head* No energy, those people... I mean, it's a bluegrass band! You can't just sit down and not clap your hands! *mumblemumble*

Yay for all kinds of fun games! :smalltongue: Heh I'd love to be able to scare my players sometimes. It doesn't work well. :smallannoyed: What kind of game are you playing? As for me, I typically need quite a bit of planning for my games. Which I forgot to do this week, so I have to put together two small adventures very quickly before Saturday, while also keeping up with schoolwork. :smalleek: At least they are just slightly twisted versions of dungeon crawls.

I'm gonna be sounding ignorant here...but what is OCMS? Glad you had fun there though. :smalltongue: Never been to a concert to be honest, but I don't take loud noises and tons of people well, so I am not sure how I would enjoy it.

Speaking of games yes, I have sessions this weekend. Gotta make the two dungeons for my main game, so wish me luck and inspiration there. At least I don't have much to worry about in the way of stat blocks.

The other game is a D&D Next playtest, and while it is fun the players are just too strong. :smallannoyed: So now I have rewritten stats for many of the monsters and have quite a few surprises planned in the adventure. Oh yes, I have them this time. :smallamused: One of them annihilated a boss fight of mine in one turn, so I am somewhat vengeful. As in just on of them, in one turn, not the whole team in one round. (F***ing criticals...)

Well, no idea, since it was published by TSR an eternity ago. Our GM was contemplating putting some extra material he'd put together up on the Internet, but I don't think he'll put up the core rules with it,so you'll have to hunt them down yourself...

Another session is planned in two weeks, we'll have to see after that. The words were that we'd do this until people lost the energy and it would be put on ice again, after which it probably will take a few years until we pick it up again...

Thanks folks for your kind words and encouragement! I'm pretty nervous, but its still a couple of months away. I'm just in the plotting stages for it. I have a ring, but not the ring. Working hard to make the former the later. :smallsigh: Damn money. You folks will know about it shortly after it happens, I assure you. And luckily I've got a bunch of her close friends involved. I've been informed I could give the girl a cracker jack ring, and she'd still be estatic, but she deserves better than that. Honestly, I'm trying to find a vintage white gold setting I could put the diamonds I have in, which can potentially be pretty inexpensive, but who knows...I don't want to be ripped off or what not, so I'm being careful. If anyone has any advice or ideas, I'm all ears!
Oh, so close! I have none, but I wish you will in finding one!

ION: I'm doing a 9 hour drive after work today with my girlfriend, and I'm trying to think, aside from listening to music and comedy routines, what we could do for fun during the drive. Anyone have any ideas?
Conversation, while obvious, is an excellent means of shooting away boredom.

There's a reason that humans invented small talk, after all, and it's not just because they couldn't think of anything profound to say.

That said, there's always word games.

It's 3.5e, and somewhere between semi-sandboxy and proper horror. Hearing the players go "Oh, ****, she's dead!" and dimension-dooring out of the temple was absolutely hilarious. The warblade is slowly going insane... no in-game mechanical effect, but he's becoming increasingly paranoid each session. The best part is that the chaotic "neutral" (but really just "not technically evil") psion is frequently the voice of reason between the two... :smallamused:

Old Crow Medicine Show. Good stuff; they're probably one of the few bands from this area to ever be very popular. I think they play a lot around Nashville now... the band that opened for 'em was from Nashville. You may have heard this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gX1EP6mG-E). (I assure you, they look nothing like this live; no silly monkey suits or sunglasses).

The crowds aren't so much a problem except for coming in and out, as you'll likely be watching the stage and not the mass of people. (barring general admission, standing room only stuff... but those are always the best shows :smallcool:) As far as loud noises go... a nice set of earplugs are your friend. I personally don't wear any (although I probably ought to), but a decent set will cut it down to a reasonable volume level without keeping you from hearing any frequency ranges. Get 'em from a music store if you can, though; they'll be better for listening to loud music than the sort of thing you'll get anywhere else. I generally prefer small shows (less than 300 people in a small venue) to big ones, but I've been to arena shows that were very good. *shrug* It's not for everyone.

Ah, alright. I might be able to dig it up somewhere, but if not then that is how it goes. I hope you have much fun then at your next session. I guess that makes sense. I don't run campaigns often but when I do, they run long. Last one went from levels 1-30. 3.5 game.

Heh probably unlikely at this early stage of the game, but we shall see. :smallwink: I have future plans to be a lot more memorable.

Awe and thanks. *hugs back* I hate when my stuff is too easily overpowered, especially boss fights. They are called 'boss' for a reason!

Ha this game sounds brilliant. :smalltongue: I am glad you are all having fun. I'm running a high magic game, with 2 players running 2 characters each, but they are good about not using metegame knowledge and playing in character, so it works out wonderfully. Plus, never need to make them jump through hoops to go where I plan or at least close to it, I know them well enough to know how to motivate them. Keep us posted please, this sounds like a brilliant story.

I wonder what the difference is. My earplugs are plain purple Walgreens earplugs. They helped me learn that what scares me is the pressure and not the noise. I could still feel the crowd noise everywhere that wasn't my ears.

:smallyuk:

An audience helps but nobody needs one to sing. Maybe the people around Amidus felt the same way about dancing.

Heheh, it was more like, end of the week & cèilidh thing where all the folk from the different courses had to do a performance, it's either singing or poetry. Some of the songs were a bit, well, left unpracticed which made them super derpy, but I can't compliment our performance at all as we all sort of shut down. It's better to sing just with the wee group in our wee classroom instead of in front of 100 other people. :smalltongue: :smallsigh:

Aye, I know what you mean, I felt horrible when I realised that wait, not going to the choir for years has made me lose a lot of my voice skills.

Ceilidhs are always fun in my experience. At least, so long as you know people at them who you can dance with.

Hehehhe, the cèilidh was amazing. Especially when you get to dance with people who know what they're doing and enjoy the dance thoroughly! Very different to get on dancing up here in the island than at uni. Absolutely loved it. I fell down and hurt my leg though and have some interesting bruising on the palm of my left hand, but eh, it's part of the good stuff. :smalltongue:

Regular earplugs are designed to block out a lot of noise; they don't make any considerations to certain pitch and frequency ranges, so some things are muted significantly more than others. You can get earplugs that are a bit more balanced in that regard.

Oh... you'd have hated the Valkyrie show... we crammed over 200 people into a bar that probably shouldn't've had more than 60 or so. That was one of the best shows I've ever been to, though. :smallcool:

Heheheh, actually, on that note, there was a chick on the floor with a hula hoop who seemed to be having quite a lot of fun dancing to the songs. She was quite good with it, too; she could keep the thing spinning for quite a long time.

Hey guys, I'm back from a neighborhood barbecue. Due to the weather conditions, we had to have it indoors instead of one of the parks we had . I probably had 3 hot dogs and a double cheeseburger. Some chips, and some pieces of watermelon.

The only time I ever felt this full was when I gobbled up as much stuff as possible as me and my friends got back from camping in the mountains for 4 days straight.

Should I risk trying to fit in a glass of water and a tiny bowl of ice cream?

*nods* I think I'm most comfortable with 2-4 players... I've DMed for 8 before, and everything took forever. I think we'll only be having one more session, but the campaign's in a place where they could wrap it up in a session, so that works out pretty well.

Ah! I wish you luck in this endeavour.

Gender, specifically. One wonders why.

Mechanically, all over the world? Probably, considering the number of characters made. It's your fluff and roleplaying that will let you be unique, and stand out.

I was asked again and answered "Did I make a character that someone else made before?" The GM said no but half the group said yes. There is the problem. The stats and god and attack style are all the same but the fluff is not. But I did not have much luck. If I lose a few more hit points before the sun rises I will not live long enough to share any fluff. It was fun. I saw my god and she saw what the panther did to me and sent me back saying "do not do that again".

Whelp, I'm back! Had some banking issues, and then got shifted through different bases twice, but I now finally have internet again! Positive might be rejoining us if she continues to 'split an apartment' (READ: Mooch off Jason and I in exchange for buying me books) with us, but bedrockhound no longer lives with us, so...I dunno how he intends to afford internet with his current job.

Hello!

Hot dogs are weird like that. They make you feel so full but they don't fill you with energy. Were people still able to barbecue outside and just had to bring the food in to eat?

Two claw hits with a few d6s. In the abdomen area. Nobody gets a lot of hitpoints in RuneQuest and each area gets less than half. So I had more than twice the damage my abdomen could take but not as much as my hitpoints. I got a near death vision of the god and extra points in "are you sure you want to do that" ability. Which I need. :smalltongue:

I recently imagined something while watching the last harry potter movie:

Take the king's cross (ish) scene and cross it with the first introduction by morpheus to what the matrix is ("residual self image"). I lack the ability to create such a thing but I just thought it would be funny to share the idea.

Ah, alright. I might be able to dig it up somewhere, but if not then that is how it goes. I hope you have much fun then at your next session. I guess that makes sense. I don't run campaigns often but when I do, they run long. Last one went from levels 1-30. 3.5 game.

Yeah, we actually picked it up because our GM was going to GM Boot Hill for someone else and felt that he had to brush up on the rules, but we concluded that it would be fun to continue. I'll keep you up to date on what happens.

Heh probably unlikely at this early stage of the game, but we shall see. :smallwink: I have future plans to be a lot more memorable.

Well, true, the early stages should probably be more memorable because the players are derpy rather than the encounters epic. Good luck in the future though.

Awe and thanks. *hugs back* I hate when my stuff is too easily overpowered, especially boss fights. They are called 'boss' for a reason!

Heh, yeah. I guess you can fudge a little with the numbers to make them a little more powerful on the fly, but yeah, I don't think any amount of legit (i.e. invisible) fudging can save your bosses from going down in the first turn if they would from the beginning. You'll need to prepare properly if you are to fix that.

*hugs*

Spent all of yesterday helping some friends of our family with moving, which was great fun, even though you'll never come even close to imagining the sheer amount of stuff they'd gathered througout their life. Lots of good company, and in the evening, we had a great feast as well, with good food and home-made mead. I love mead. :3

Also, I learned that the daughter of this family's English boyfriend is a fan of Full Life Consequences. We were heading outside toward the end of the evening, and he said something along the lines of "The world is so dark!", to which I mused "In the future, the world was dark and scarry...", which he picked up on immediately. This is why I love littering my speech with obscure references, sooner or later someone's going to pick up on one, and then you'll suddenly have an awesome time talking about your common interests.

Maybe, maybe... I may or may not have another tomorrow... If people keep bugging me, I'll write this up sometime, although it'll all be from memory. It's been quite a lot of fun, for sure. :smallcool:

Heheheh, actually, on that note, there was a chick on the floor with a hula hoop who seemed to be having quite a lot of fun dancing to the songs. She was quite good with it, too; she could keep the thing spinning for quite a long time.

*nods* I think I'm most comfortable with 2-4 players... I've DMed for 8 before, and everything took forever. I think we'll only be having one more session, but the campaign's in a place where they could wrap it up in a session, so that works out pretty well.

Heh, he'll be fine. He's hoping they take their time in sending him off to basic, as he's going to be based in San Antonio... he'd rather it be late fall or winter before he goes to Texas. :smallamused:

Yeah, but I have a long history of taking poor care of my ears, and quite frankly, I prefer the sound unadulterated by earplugs, tinnitus be damned. Call me stubborn and reckless, but I believe I've said a few times in the past that I'll be deaf, toothless, and bald by the time I'm 30, and I don't mind. *hypocrite mode: on* You take care of yourself, though. I am a bad example. :smallamused: :smalltongue:

Well good that everything is able to be squarely wrapped up. My last campaign ended with more loose ends than I wanted, because we had to hurry and finish it with a friend going off to the Navy shortly at the time. I am comfortable playing with 3-6 characters. There are usually people playing multiple characters, so less players to handle.

Ah okay then, I could see why. :smalleek: Still wishing well it just what I typically do for others, especially in the military. Sigh...wish I could go to Texas though, no matter the reasoning. :smallfrown:

Well...I say try to avoid the bald part. Toothless can be sort of managed, deaf gives you the chance to learn sign language so see it as an opportunity. But a life without hair...ehh. :smalleek: If I went bald I'd go crazy. I like my hair. Um sort of. When it isn't giving me trouble. And I'll try to. I'm pretty good at taking care of myself physically, odd near-constant stomach aches aside.

Oh trust me, last night was memorable. 3 characters had to cause a bunch of havoc in a district of the city and lead the city guards on a chase for a while, as a distraction for someone with information they need. The whole thing started with a 39 point nonlethal kick to a guard's groin, and ended with a stampede of giraffes. And part of the job was they had to allow themselves to be caught eventually, so next week is a prison break.

Well, giving them health and AC isn't enough, the players cut through that. I need to find other defenses. DR is logical, but there are other more interesting options too. That said, the Next campaign we did on Friday was okay. Didn't do anything to make me too mad, actually got close to killing on of the characters twice.

Yeah, the problem with DR as I see it is that it penalises characters who relies on dishing out smaller amounts of damage many times (or to many enemies) a lot harder than those who only hit once but hard. If it's one of the latter who've gone overpowered, it's hard to tailor a challenge which still lets the rest of the party shine...

Now, this case is situational, otherwise DR works fine. And good to hear it wasn't a repeating occurence...

It's like wine in alcohol content, but usually sweeter (since it's made from honey) and less sour. It bears some resemblance to beer as well, but is generally a bit less bitter. Our friend also flavours his mead, so there's that.

All in all, I'm pretty bad at explaining tastes, so I'm sorry but I can't help you any more than this...

Well, this is my room, so it has to look homely, and the best way to make a room look homely is to put lots of personal stuff in it, so that it looks inhabited and non-sterile. I'm actually pondering moving some stuff off from the shelves and putting them on my desk until I find something new to bring up to it. Actually, it was really windy yesterday, so I had to keep my door shut or the draught would carry away all loose paper in the room. I don't have any ventilation in the room, however, so with the door closed, the wind would mostly just pass by my window, carrying with it anything I released to it.

Yet again, I seem to have strayed into the more intriguingly disturbing realms of the Internet... I am both relieved and disappointed that the world is not so precariously perched on the cosmic knife edge...

Oh, very nice! What will you be eating?

Nothing exciting because I'm cheaper than a Rhinestone necklace.
Do people even make necklaces with Rhinestones? I have no idea... It just sounds like that cheapest piece of jewellery imaginable... Also... Ignore that I spent five hundred dollars over the course of two days, that's not at all a usual occurrence.

I want to go back and pick up some replies I owe, but I was mugged last night as well and my face looks like a bag of hot garbage. I have a concussion, I can't see out of one eye and barely out the other, and am thick in an ooze of painkillers. I have come to entreat for fluff and hugs.

Oh dear... I certainly hope that the perpetrator is found and prosecuted.
In the meantime:

I can't believe I get to witness the moment that there's someone practicing his bagpipes on the room next to mine and accordion on the other side. Whilst I'm trying to take a damn power nap before the lessons continue.

Welcome to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

So anyone recall that nine hour trip I mentioned? Welp....it didn't go well at all.

It started with me getting off work a half hour late waiting on my relief to arrive, then sitting in traffic for 45 minutes trying to get home to pick up my girlfriend, THEN sitting in traffic trying to get out of the city.

Eventually, we get going at a good clip. Things are going at a good clip. We have good conversation, good music, are laughing and having fun listening to some comedians via Ipod. And then disaster strikes.

My car begins to lurch and jump. At first I though it might be the car trying to shift from 3rd to 4th, since we were going 65 miles per hour and that's usually the place that it shifts, so if I was going over or under that speed...

but no. It gets progressively more frequent and I end up stopping and doing the customary check under the hood and pretend that it will do something - such as see an obvious problem, like a rodent stuck in a gear, or a disconnected wire or something...Nothing seems wrong. So we sit for a bit. I'm freaking out and burst into tears, because if my engine was dying, I can't afford to replace the car. Plus we were stuck in the middle of no where, in a place called "Fishkill", New York, which did not comfort me any. After a bit of letting the engine rest, I decide we'll push on, resolving if it happens again to seriously consider turning around.

We stop at a rest stop and I fill the tank, hoping that it might be a fuel issue, and that filling the tank might help. Plus it gives the car more time to rest. Both my girl friend and I are tense and scared about the condition of the car, and upset that we're running so late/a chance we might not make it up to Maine, a trip we were both looking forward to.

30 minutes later, it happens again. At 55 miles per hour. Great, it's getting worse. We pull over again and this time it's my girl friend's turn to cry. I make the decision that we need to find a place to stay that night, find a mechanic in the morning, and see what they say. I make a call to the person housing us at our destination and update them, meanwhile her Mom is trying to find a cheap motel in the area we could stay.

We finally find one for about $60, and get there after biting our nails that the car was going to fail on us at any moment. Luckily, after slowing down, anything below 55 mph seemed fine for the engine. We park, just as my check engine light comes on...finally. The clerk at the hotel seemed nice but a bit spacey, and informed us we were lucky, he only had one room left. He ended up accidentally assigning us to an already occupied room, so we go back and he gives us the actual room key. We go to the actual room and the room...was freaking disgusting. Let's give you all a list -

Holes in walls
Door appeared to be forced in multiple times
Peeling and stained ceiling
Peeling rug
Cobwebs all over each corner
Non-working TV
Non-working fridge
Blood and and blue liquid stained sheets. Yes. I said blood.

And to top it off, while using the bathroom, my girl friend found a small little baggie with what appeared to be crystal meth lying on the ground. :smallannoyed:

So we used our own sheets we'd brought for the trip, our own towels, didn't remove our socks, and sleep a little, crying in each others arms due to stress and sleep deprivation. The next morning we pack up in a hurry so as to escape the den of disaster, and so we could try and find a mechanic that would look at our car on a weekend (which isn't a likely goal).

I uneasily check under the bed when we were leaving to make sure we didn't leave anything under there. And sure enough something was left there, just not something that WE brought...a needle. Which all but confirmed the contents of the bag. :smallfurious:

We got the heck out of there, and ended up finding a mechanic that helped us. They found out it was some switch on the outside of the transmission (outside = good, inside = bad) and that we could drive on it home, just not to push it. So we slowly make our way home, disappointed to be missing the wedding of one of my best friends, not to mention not getting to do any of the things we prepaid for (bed and breakfast reservations in maine, dinner reservations, so on).

All around, a fairly disappointing weekend. :smallsigh: We're home safe now, and the car's in the shop. Hoping it doesn't cost me a bundle.

Edit: Oh my. Just realized the longevity of this post. Spoiled for length.

So, I don't know if we recall me saying that I was stoked for last nights DND game, because it was revolving around my characters back story, but it was amazing.

We're trying to track down the Harbringer who's been a necromancer on a killing spree, while looking for the man who raised me who's also a necromancer... To find out that the man who had raised me, Elden, was the harbingers old master, AND the harbinger was my characters father they thought had died a long tome ago.

So that was interesting. Everyone thought I'd try to seek him out for answers, and I was, until he killed Elden. He didn't know I was hiding and watching. Then came the best move the dice have let me pull off. Lol

Attack of opputunity stacked with point blank shot, rapid shot, many shot, and I CRITED. Which never happens. My attack did 82 points of damage. Lead to my DM with an open mouth and the other players giving me this look like, why don't you do this more often? Lol

Sigh... It was wonderful.

Now, if you want more stuff that I'm doing, I'll be putting my new game in my sig shortly! We're playing a new system called Feng Shui, it's pretty dang sweet! Only instead of playing in the base Feng Shui universe we're playing in the Shin Megami Tensei universe! So they're will be tons of demons and intrigue and stuff! Since Feng Shui is the Action Movie RPG, I'm styling the game sort of like an episodic anime! Hope you all enjoy, viewer and player alike.

Well, good luck and good hunting!

A stampede of giraffes? Sounds like a memorable time indeed.

Care to tell us more? :smallhopeful:

I couldn't yesterday but I am back home now, so once some schoolwork is done I will hunt for it.

Heh I'll try to do it justice. Well, the PC's are in the city of the God of Magic, and he needs them to find information on a cult that is causing trouble in his city (he can't use his godly powers on them, because a powerful anti-deity being is working with the cult), and sent the PC's out to get info to make plans. One of the team members is a witch so went to her contacts in the local coven, and the leader there basically says do some work for her, get the info. Well, one of those jobs is to cause a distraction in a certain district of the city. The group for this was the witch character, her timid sister (both to the same player), and a very crazy fist-fighter (other player, who only joined because the witch invited him for the fun). This whole segment was done with very loose rules and whatever they could come up with. So it starts with the brawler launching a truly epic groin shot at a guard while throwing heinous insults at another, aided by the witch. From there they ran all through town, using their respective abilities to cause trouble. The witch (based off Medusa from Soul Eater, if you know the show) used her powers, her sister shape shifted into a wolf to cause trouble, while the brawler used his trusty mount, the Huge giraffe named Sir Comlen. It was pure anarchy. It doesn't help that the initial groin shot was a crit from a monkish character. Needless to say, fun was had, guards were troubled, it was great.

I do see the problem with it, but fortunately it isn't a problem that comes up with this group. Most of the team are the type to be heavy hitters in few attacks, and the rest are primarily support casters.

I definitely want to try it someday. ^^ Don't have the money to right now though. I tend to prefer vodka or rum, and usually do not care at all for beer or ale except for one particular kind. But 4 years ago or so, I would have refused to even touch any of the stuff. So go figure. :smalltongue:

Mead is a wonderful drink -- I had some last night from the States that was 40% apple wine and 60% mead. Delicious and cheering to the heart.

Here is fluffs, sorry in this picture that there are no budgies. I can look for another pic if it is needed.

Well, that depends on how much we get done next session... I'm used to the player/character ratio to be about 1/1, so... :smalltongue:

I've got wonderful hair, but I accept that it's statistically likely to leave me at some point. :smallamused:

I think that is how it is usually supposed to be. I feel like our group is just very very awkward. As an example, our most "optimized" character in our last game was a single-class fighter. No joke.

What do you want to go and see in Texas?

I will say what other people have said. A stampede of giraffes sounds like a good gaming night.

My girlfriend. :smallfrown:

Heh it was wonderful. To add to all that was stated above, the giraffes were a joke from an earlier session, where the brawler started a district-wide party and released many giraffes from the zoo (magical city, they got them there somehow). One of them became his friend, the mentioned Comlen, and wears a guard helmet to stand separate from the rest. So, we used the joke again here.

And you must not have much wind. Put something outside a window here near dark and the night wind will bring it back inside. I do not understand how this is also true on the east side of the house when the night wind comes from the west.

Here, please use my neck pillow. It will let you sleep without putting more pressure on your head.

Do you tempt the rheumy and unpurged air to add unto your sickness with windows open to the vile contagion of the night?!

Thank you kindly. It smells of cucumbers and tomato leaves.

Hmm, I haven't had apple wine, so I can't speak for its aromatical merits, but I'm sure I would enjoy your hearty bewerage.

Oh no! This is dreadful! I shall dab your wounds with warm water and soft cotton, and your tongue with port wine. Have you called the police to drive these criminals off the streets? :smallsympathetic:

ION:
My schedule for today includes degreasing a steam locomotive. I forsee a lot of work ahead of me...

I'm not sure where the distinction between an apple wine an a cider lies, but the mixture was about the strength of wine. I suppose you could imagine strong apple cider mixed with mead.

O! Teddycare! The finest of cares. The police showed up pretty quickly to the scene, although I was too out of it to make a statement. The whole thing was, apparently, caught on the security camera of a nearby building.

You really get up to some interesting things. You'll get to know that locomotive pretty intimately in the task, I'll wager.

Yet again, I seem to have strayed into the more intriguingly disturbing realms of the Internet... I am both relieved and disappointed that the world is not so precariously perched on the cosmic knife edge...

Oh dear... I certainly hope that the perpetrator is found and prosecuted.
In the meantime:

Good that the scene was caught dear Nibbles. :smallmad: There will be justice, indeed there will! Must not confuse justice with vengeance just yet...with protectiveness? Perhaps.

ION: Just had a bit of a scene in the house. One of my grandma's dogs (who is a foot in length and most) antagonized my dogs(a very health size Lab/Pit mix) to the point of rage. Grandma and I had to break them apart, there was almost a doggy death. Had the small one by the neck, pulled her off quickly I did. My puppy is in bedroom detention. :smallfrown: Trying to be a good doggy caretaker and papa, and just put in time out. But I am filled with very much rage. :smallfurious: Little one for starting all this, my big sweet puppy for accidentally hurting grandma in the process (just a small cut on the hand but still). Please help abate my rage?

And also might disappear at any time here, had storms and a power outage last night and the sky is looking fearsome again now. So you never know.

I can't believe I get to witness the moment that there's someone practicing his bagpipes on the room next to mine and accordion on the other side. Whilst I'm trying to take a damn power nap before the lessons continue.

Welcome to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

At least they're good.. Damn it..

Anxiety is kicking in, in my class I'm DEFINITELY the youngest, mostly people being rather old. :smalleek: All the young folk are on the other class... I feel extremely lonely and find it hard to think I'll get to know people in the evening, people will have already formed their wee groups... :smallfrown:

Well... (http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3vjj2b/) :smallamused:

Aw... Feel better, Finn. :\

So anyone recall that nine hour trip I mentioned? Welp....it didn't go well at all.

Well, sorry to disappoint anyone who was reading, but my DND 4E campaign is (basically) no more. Thank you everyone for reading along, and ESPECIALLY thanks to my players for making it so much fun. Love you guys

Aw... it sucks to see that end. That was a good read. :\

Yeah, demons! :smallcool:

I think that is how it is usually supposed to be. I feel like our group is just very very awkward. As an example, our most "optimized" character in our last game was a single-class fighter. No joke.

Heh, that's happened to us before... one of my players finally got a good grasp on how optimization worked... and kept playing a fighter. I think his character ended up with a barbarian level at some point, though.

Oo, sounds exhausting! Good luck!

It sure was, especially since only I and another person could show up! But it was also great fun. I was basically climbing all over it, hanging in weird angles and standing on top of it to clean off all surfaces we intend to paint later. I even gave myself the epithet Degrease Monkey.

They also have a few quite cheeky house sparrows living on the grounds of the Railway Museum. One was even bold enough to jump up to my hand and snatch breadcrums from my fingers. I know you shouldn't feed wild animals, but it was so cute. :3

And on our way home, our train mauled an elk at full speed. Not much left of that one afterwards, I gather...

I'll put up a few pictures of me and the locomotive in the You! thread shortly.

It's always wonderful when the dice play with you in the most dramatic moments. That's how epic tales are made!

Also, it's a bit eerie, but Elden was the name of my character in the 4E campaign LaLa mentioned, who was an invoker of Pelor (who later multiclassed into druid as well), and I'd just thrown together his name by uttering random syllables until something which rolled nicely off my tongue came out (the fact that it actually means "the fire" in Swedish was entirely coincidential, if surprisingly fitting).

Beautiful clear full moon out tonight.

Whenever it's night wherever you guys are, make sure you get a look at it.

Actually, the full moon isn't until tomorrow morning.
...
Right, this night is the same night as tomorrow morning. And yes, the moon is quite pretty indeed.

Hehehe, yeah, this sound quite memorable indeed.

Yeah, trying is good, perhaps you'll find something you like. Given, I suspect half of the reason why I like mead so much is because "mead is viking and also honey and I am viking bear so I should like it, heavens be damned", but at least half of it is because I think it tastes really good. Especially the sweeter dessert meads. I've got quite a sweet fang... :3

The SCP Foundation. Last time I was there it took over a week to disentangle myself. There are indeed some terrifying things on their site, but one finds one's self unable to so readily just close the tab. The worst part is the incredibly mild feeling of unease it makes me feel when walking down the hallway late at night when there are no lights on.

I would never buy Mynxae such a meal. He doesn't like pickles. And in truth, I'm not sure where that simile came from. It just surfaced to the forefront of my mind when it came time to assure people of my thrift. I have a subtle feeling that a person or persons known are influencing me to use more descriptive language.

The presence of a bolded vowel in the word lorikeets is rather unexpected, but I am certain that there is some perfectly valid explanation.
I for one will remain hopeful that the witnesses in question were clear of eye and mind and possessed of a decent memory. Even if they somehow elude capture, I do hope that they will be severely discouraged from repeating such a crime.

Yet again... The annual difficulties in finding a person to step forward to forge the new thread from the electronic aether... I almost feel like compiling a list of people who can't make the next thread so I can compare that against those who are reasonably active in these recent times...
But that's too much work.
