So, my friend is creating a new setting and he's trying to insert the Wyrwood as a race, renaming them the Automata. However, everybody he talks to seems to gripe about it in one way or another, saying it isn't "balanced"

For those that don't know, the wyrwood just has the construct type. No more or less.

I've heard "too much HP at first level", "they can't be resurrected; what if the player wants to keep playing that character?", "they're immune to too much!", etc...

Naturally, I think they're all being idiots, so I came to a place where people actually know what they're talking about.

Is a construct, as a playable race in Pathfinder, broken?

The Android (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/humanoids/android) race wants a word with these people. Your friend might also want to use them instead. Since they are not classified as full Constructs (they're still Humanoids with Construct-like bonuses), they involve less problems with things like healing, immunities and resurrection.

They don't have a problem with the android. My friend just considers it a little lazy, as it's just "human with robot bits stapled on". He wants full-on robots for this world, more like warforged, but without just porting over the warforged.

Does that make any sense?

It looks pretty crazy powerful. I don't know what the PF balancing factor is on races, but you'd probably want there to be some kinda balancing factor in place. It's very much more powerful than other races that you'd normally take, strictly due to the sheer number of immunities. If you're just taking this instead of human, without any external associated cost, I'd probably say that it is broken.

See my edit. Basically, full constructs (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/rules-for-monsters/creature-types#TOC-Construct) as a playable race are OP in the way full undeads (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/rules-for-monsters/creature-types#TOC-Undead) as a playable race are OP. If your friend is ok with flat out immunity to most things targeting Fortitude or the mind, immunity to a lot of the game's crowd control, and the party inconveniencing inability to be healed through regular methods, then they're fine. But they'll be pulling a lot of stunts through their racial abilities alone that would require high level magic or items from any other race, and the DM and other players are going to need to be willing to manage this.
