I recently saw and fell in love with this class (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60146) but my DM won't allow it. I still want to play a Louisianan Voodoo type character but am at a loss as to how.

Any suggestions? I'm trying for NG but will change that if needed and I'm starting at level 3 if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

The Pathfinder Witch gets a voodoo doll Hex - just be male and run that class by your DM.

EDIT: The Gravewalker archetype is even better - it replaces your familiar with a "poppet" that you can use to deliver touch spells as ranged touch attacks, by pointing at the target then stabbing your poppet with a pin.

You can be any alignment so NG will work.

Wow! That stuff looks really good! Thanks!

My DM tends to be strict about allowing PF stuff in his campaigns, so are there any 3.5 methods that you know of?

How authentically voudou do you want to get? Binder's mechanics could pretty easily be re-fluffed to be based on lwa instead of vestiges.

I would like to be fairly authentic, the dolls and medicine man type stuff being key.

Edit: DM did say no to the Pathfinder Witch.

Hmm. If you were starting at a higher level, I would definitely suggest binder. At 5th level, with Improved Binding, you could get Buer as a vestige, which would fit extremely well. As it is, you could probably take like, max ranks in Heal or something.

Spirit shaman is pretty good. Druid spell list, and lots of flavorfull spirit-based class abilities. I played a witch-doctor character using a spirit shaman, and it worked very well. He was a big hit at the table.

I only glanced at the spirit shaman before but I'll be sure to take a closer look at it. Thanks!

It deviates a fair bit from the flavor, but you could honestly refluff a psion, preferably a kineticist, this way.

With a good mix of psychokinetics, metacreativity and telepathy plus a healthy dose of roleplaying, you could have a lot of fun playing a witch doctor psion. Have your psicrystal be the eyes in a voodoo doll, and manipulate it to control your enemies like puppets (via Control Body (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/controlBody.htm)), or prod it with needles and watch as the same thing happens to them (Crystal Shard (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/crystalShard.htm), or several other similar powers). Stir up terrible brews with Psionic Minor Creation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/minorCreationPsionic.htm), or cheat death as you dive into a nearby flame and emerge later, still alive (Fiery Discorporation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/fieryDiscorporation.htm)). Look into someone's eyes and paralyze them with fear, or hypnotize them to do your bidding (Psionic Suggestion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/suggestionPsionic.htm) or Brain Lock (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/brainLock.htm)).
