Hi, a quick question that just came up during our gaming session. If someone is already affected by a mindcontrolling spell, and another person casts disobedience spell - would that suppress the mind control spell?

According to the spell description it supresses a spell casted while it's in effect, but it says nothing about being used in this fashion.

Any idea about similar situations that are backed up by some rule or the other? Alternatively do you think it's a fair use of the spell?

I don't think it can be used to suppress a mind control effect that has already taken place. Disobedience must be cast proactively before someone else tries to exert mental control.

Here's the relevant text from the spell, "The protection does not prevent such effects from targeting a subject affected by disobedience, but it suppresses the effect for the duration of this spell."

In other words, a spellcaster can cast Dominate Person on a target that is protected by Disobedience; the domination effect will be suppressed until Disobedience expires. (Dominate Person has a duration of one day per spell level, so it is going to last longer.) After Disobedience expires, the saving throw would take place, like normal.

However, the subject of Disobedience knows that a spell has been cast on them so a wise player would ask for a targeted Dispel Magic or that Disobedience be cast on them repeatedly to prevent the domination effect from ever occurring.

The quote belies your interpretation, and it's essentially the same as that for protection from evil et al: you can cast the spell, and the subject isn't immune, but neither are they affected by it at all while disobedience is in effect. Just like in an AMF, suppression means suppression.
