Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition! :smallsmile:

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

Over the next few days, we're continuing to take a bit of a break as we have The Best of the Hundred Tournament for Comics #1 - #100. Here is were we take the time to decide which of the strips really are the best of best.

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the five listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting, which only lasts five days during the Best of the Hundred Tournament will close on August 6st, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

The winner of this semi-final will go on to the finals, which will be held after this second semi-final is done. The two strips that get the most votes during the semis that DIDN'T win, will also reach the finals. So voting is extra special important this time around, as it will determine who the 'Wild Card' entrants are.

In the previous semi-final, :elan: 50 - The Semi-Secret Origin of Elan & Nale (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0050.html) became the strip to enter the finals.

:durkon: 24 - Do You Hear What I Hear? (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0024.html) and :elan: 4 The Power of Music (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0004.html) are currently holding down the Wild Card spots with 9 and 8 votes respectively. Thus if another strip is to enter the finals without winning this semi, it has to get at least 8 votes.

Which will be the strips to enter the finals?

It's a tough one, I like all of these, but I gotta say 64, with 51 very close behind.

I feel like it's more "modern OOTS" than the others, but still has the feel it did in the beginning. And Roy being a badass is always fun.

A stronger field than the previous semi.

5th: 80 (most of the Banjo strips are kinda meh, IMO). 4th: 64. A good solid strip, but not outstanding. 3rd: 92 (birth of the ever-popular Explosive Runes running gag. Now we're getting somewhere!) 2nd: 51 (I like non-traditional panel layout just as much as Thog).

But yeah. Can only be 90. Goblin office small-talk, discussion of OotS strategy and "I got a 4."

Yep, the strips as a whole are better this time around. I think I only voted for two of them last time around, and unsurprisingly they're my two favorites by a good margin now. It took some deliberation, but I'm going to go with the gut laughter-inducing #90: Consequences of a Failed Skill Check over the non-traditional panel layout of #51. I know the feeling of annoyed amusement over one crappy crucial roll all too well.

Im torn between 90 and 92: "I got a 4" and the explosive runes, are both great gags. But in 92, there was also the mini-cliffhanger of "who will be down that trapdoor?".

No votes allowed for 84, I'm afraid. :smallsmile: It was eliminated in a prior round.

Maybe I'll allow Wild Cards from prior rounds if/when Stick Awards III: The Search for More Votes comes about. I'm toying with a few ideas to shake things up a bit in the back of my head. But it's a ways off. :smallwink:

I've never liked Banjo so he's out, and Thog with the earth slyph wasn't too good either. Of the rest i found explosive runes good but not at the top of the list. That left only two contenders, of them howsoever 90 has to be the winner.

Interestingly, my list of personal favourites only contains one of the first 100 strips - #82. Which isn't an option here. However, 90 is a rather good one too. :)

64: Transference - Not that any of them are nearly as good as later strips, but I suppose this one is the best of the bunch, with 90 not far behind. Still, it's very interesting to see how far the strip has come.

Well this is a bit of a quandry. I want to vote for Comic #80. But doing so will bring this poll into a tie, and we don't like ties in these parts.
