I was recently reminded of a 2E firbolg character I played some years back.

Do any of you know of a 3.0 or 3.5 firbolg translation out there?

It's in the Monster Manual 2.

In 3.0 Polymorph was one spell, there was no Polymorph Self or Baleful Polymorph, it was useful to turn enemies into turtles or allies into... Firbolgs. In fact it actually made the party Fighter considerably stronger to just turn him into a Firbolg and replace all his class levels with the racial HD, and it often even made the character smarter.

In 3.5 you can just play an arcane gish and polymorph into one, though War Troll in MM3 is probably an overall better choice.

yep War troll wins the "brute battle" Stats wise at least the Firbolg has less LA and a few more points of strength but the wartroll has much better defenses.

Um...what?

The Firbolg has +18 level adjustment, while the War Troll only has +6. :smallconfused:

Despite the War Troll's lower-level accessibility and better return for its HD, I have always been more fond of Mountain Trolls as "big brute" polymorph forms.

The Firbolg only has a +5 LA. The other 13 is from its racial hit dice.

I would advise using the monster levels here.
