This is the character registry for Oddness: Uptown Rumble roleplay. For characters of other roleplays, look elsewhere.

DO NOT POST CHARACTER DISCUSSION IN THIS THREAD! If you want help, criticism etc. concerning your future character, post it in the OOC thread or ask a Moderator or other player in private.

You CAN post work-in-progress character sheets here and edit them as necessary. Just be sure to inform other players of chances you make and don't jump into the game until others have had time to look over your character.

If you see a spot you want is taken, don't despair! Many things are possible within the game! Just come and talk with us.

Please don't delete posts! It messes up hyperlinks in this post. If you feel like not playing a character anymore, inform me and I'll edit this master list.

About notations of the registry:

[KIA] : Killed-in-action. This character has bit the dust, kicked the bucket, thrown in the towel, went to a better place, rests in pieces, yadda yadda. Their place is now in our fond memories and flashbacks.
[MIA] : Missing-in-action. A player vanished and left their character off-screen, but the character was too important to be retconned out. Referring to these characters (and wondering where they are) is allowed, but their fate is left undisclosed unless their player returns.
[NPC] : Non-player character. A character who can be controlled by anyone in need.
[WIP] : Work-in-progress. A character is incomplete and not ready to be played yet.
(Currently played by X) : informs if a character is being played by someone else than who made their registry post.
Crossed-over: This character has been retconned out. They are considered never to have existed in the story. Don't refer to them.

(Lovingly borrowed from Frozen_Feet and the wonderful folks at Bleach: Renewed Revolution )

Age: 16
Gender: Female
Height: 5’ 1”.
Weight: 99 ibs.
Side: 10 Woods Academy, The North Coven
Feature: Connected

"Hello, everyone..." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2jpHcq5lMk&list=WLB369BDB303CD154D)

Appearance

Shoulder-length black hair and vibrant green eyes. Lorena is short and slim, with a beauty mark on her left cheekbone. She smiles often, which shows off her one missing upper canine, marring her looks. She is not exceptionally beautiful, but not average either. She has the sort of face that you see everywhere, leading to cases of déjà vu.

Background
Lorena grew up the only child of a single mother, living in the suburbs of Queens as her mom, Edna Lee, worked hard to get them a better life. Despite Edna’s efforts, Lorena grew estranged from her mother, citing her lack of presence in her life. Severely depressed, Lorena took to wearing a false smile to protect herself, eventually becoming the mask.

Edna eventually made a big break, netting herself a pay raise and allowing them to live closer to the city, and for Lorena to attend a respectable private school in Manhattan where she could learn from the best and brightest… It was in this environment she encountered Sarah, the leader of the North Coven. Sarah took Lorena under her wing, teaching her witchcraft and giving her purpose… The sad truth was that not a single member of the North Coven could practice actual magic, deluding themselves into the idea it really worked for them.

Personality:

She is possessed with uranomania, the obsession with divinity. She has no idea why her magic abilities don’t work, or those of her coven-sisters. Transcending her own limits is her obsession, the force that drives her every day, and there is little she wouldn’t do to see it through. Her ditzy exterior is not a cover, though, for long, harsh years of loneliness broke her spirit, forcing her to create a new personality for herself.

Beneath that giggling, gentle exterior is a haunted and broken young woman, obsessed with making herself perfect in every way, feral with rage and utterly devoted to the North Coven.

Abilities:

Lorena is not particularly charismatic, athletic, or exceptional in any way. She is surprisingly book smart and diligent, despite her unintelligent manner. She recognizes her failings, and struggles extra hard to overcome how pathetic she really is.

Seung Kim

Age: 20 (born November 14)
Gender: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 150
Side: Neutral
Feature: Powerful

Appearance

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39147041/AdEva%20Pictures/SeungKim.jpgSeung is a young man with pale skin stretched over an attenuated physique. His features suggest a Korean descent, though he speaks like an uptown, Manhattan native. He has brown eyes that verge on black, his high cheekbones barely cast shadows on a face that is full in comparison to his body, and he keeps his hair cut in a short, black crop. He can usually be found wearing clothes just a size too big for him, and has plenty of clothes with knife cuts and other, assorted signs of his occasional scuffle.

Background
Seung Kim, son of Man-won Kim and Nicole Jung, was born and raised in New York where his parents, through a business connection, met in Manhattan. Seung grew up like most people: ignorant of the ugly dark, the angels among men, and the alien sensations and lore that permeated the deepest holes in the catacombs of every city. He grew up socialable, though not with enough presence to pursue politics or the careers of his parents, (both now sitting chairpersons in their company,) and showed a strong knack for memory and recitation, which led him to become the world history buff he is today.

From the age of eleven, Seung slowly realized that he could “sense” a certain vibe that no one else seemed keyed into. This power, that he now calls “essence” to keep it straight in his head, has been found and taken from everything in his life, from the toys of his youth to the people who spoke with. By the time he graduated high school, he found he could perform impressive feats of strength and stamina, a power that he eventually learned made him more feared than beloved, even when used to protect people from bullies. So he learned to bottle that power and, despite the vulgar displays from his youth, managed to escape widespread attention to himself… until he was nineteen in a Beat Revivalist bar on open-mic night, where he witnessed a creature in human skin read poetry. The poem itself was simple, a tale of drug-use and the destruction it wrought… but her voice, and her face, had enthralled the entire audience. Seung was no exception, and the essence he drew, nay, was freely given by the girl was like a hurricane upon his heart. She couldn’t be human. He had to see her again.

He searched for her in the back, desperately, after feeling how invigorated, how alive he was after getting just a taste of the “essence” she gave off while reading that simple, personal poem. He wouldn't find that being again despite his desperate searches, fueled by the desire to have some guidance, some clue as to what he was experiencing… was he drunk on the power she fed him, or on love at first sight?

To this day, Seung struggles with that question. The mysterious woman had left him in the dark, a Columbia University student with a history degree to finish and superhuman strength to spend… and the haunting last words she spoke that night:

“So I, the Woman in White, was gone, finally slain and swept
into the fog of dissonance, in the undertow beneath the city’s tide.
But I will return to you, wiping the tears you wept
and on the cleanest sidewalk, we shall walk side by side.”

It wasn’t really a clue… but Seung had nothing else to go on, and he awoke each day thinking back to that incredible moment, and haunted by those words. He lived on Manhattan… the streets were filthy. There was no such thing as a clean sidewalk… had she been her Lady of the Lake, giving him the power to do good and fight evil? He was already occasionally caught up in such situations, whenever the gangs were too blatant in their abuse, enough to catch his attention…

It was all he had to go on… in any case, there were no leads to be had through any of the normal channels… and he was almost positive she was more than human, like an angel upon Earth. If he was going to find a lead, he’d have to find someone like him, someone in the know for the supernatural… or just keep beating up gangsters that got in his way until something useful shook loose.

Personality:
Seung Kim grew up to be a polite, well-mannered young man… but anyone who crosses him or comes off as a problem for the big city earns his ire… and, given his sarcastic bite, usually his fist as well. He is even worse when dealing with beings that he knows are supernatural; the prejudice he feels for those "outside" the norm is rooted in the fact that they keep causing him trouble, save for the Woman in White. If he happens upon one that’s bearable, even nice, they’ll eventually get the side of Kim he shows to his friends, few in number as they are. Overall, he would rather protect the weak than judge them, and is strongly (and outspokenly) opposed to the opposite view.

Abilities:
Essence Warrior
Seung can tap into the essence that permeates all matter in the world, but retains the greatest "charge" of essence from the artifacts and interactions of people. Aside from the essence he passively gains, as all others do, he can draw upon these sources for a bit of an extra boost, allowing his body to become enhanced beyond the normal limitations of man. He had this part of his gift refined by middle school, quickly learning how easily he could accidentally damage the people around him by doing it too enthusiastically. By his college years, however, he had already absorbed enough to commit superhuman feats... but this was a long, steady build-up over the years, with tiny sips taken from the souls of friends and family, artwork he was given time to fully appreciate, poems read by honest hearts in his presence... none of it received quite the surge he received from the Woman in White.

Columbia Student
Seung is approaching his junior year in Columbia, and now majors in History. Though he intended to double-major in Archaeology, he taken it as a minor, both to free up time for his "other" studies while retaining access to old records, all in the hopes that he might pull something from history to better understand his new-found gift. Despite the distractions of his power, Seung is very well-versed in known human history and can speak English, French and Korean, (he is not conversationally fluent in Korean, much to the chagrin of his mother.)

Vincent Pierce

Age: 23
Gender: Male
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 175lbs
Side: His own
Features: Mythical

Appearance

Vincent Pierce is a rather average sized, Caucasian male. His skin is very pale, almost albino. His eyes are pale green in color. His hair is black and is kept shoulder length, usually covering at least half of his face. His facial features are gaunt but very sharp while still remaining relatively attractive. He sports a goatee thick enough to hide his skin from view, but not long enough to really leave his face.

He wears a black suit with a matching vest; a white shirt with a black necktie lie underneath. He also wears black, leather motorcycle boots. On his right index finger he wears a silver ring with a skull on it; the eyes of the skull are imbued with green diamonds. When on his motorcycle Vincent wears a heavy, black, leather jacket over top his normal clothing, with no helmet, but dark glasses and a black bandanna with a skull marking on it.

Background

Vincent has traveled the world his entire life and has been every place you can think of (and many that you can’t). He has met countless people of fame, fortune, joy, poverty, infamy, and sorrow. He has no parents that anyone knows of and three siblings that he is rather distant with, but cares for regardless. Why he is in New York is known only to him, but woe to anyone who gets in his way.

Personality

Vincent is rather aloof, generally. He is an observer. He watches the world move around him and only ever intervenes when deemed necessary. He is often seen as cold and harsh, though he can be rather caring if need be. When angered he is a force to be reckoned with, but thankfully he doesn't lose his cool often. He is also often seen talking to a raven that he calls Despair, which is the only creature other than his siblings that he shows any kind of caring towards. He always rides into town on an almost off white motorcycle, but it has no make or model markings on it anywhere. The headlight shines a pale green as well.

Abilities

Despair: Vincent is able to summon Despair at any time to aid him in gathering information. Despair is a rather average sized raven with sharp, green eyes. He seems to appear from nowhere and is very helpful in aiding Vincent.

Death Touch: Vincent can kill or cause someone to fall asleep with a single touch. Though he doesn't use the former ability as often, in many hostile situations he will put his foes to sleep and then disappears.

Speaking to the Dead: Vincent can commune with the dead. He is able to do this to gather information and also re-live the moment the soul died from their perspective.

Inhuman: Vincent is very resilient, shrugging off what would kill any mortal man, and exhibits almost inhuman speed and strength. He is also able to change into a form better suited to channel his abilities, but that is an extremely rare occurrence.

Natural Talents: Beyond his apparent supernatural abilities, Vincent has many natural talents. He is able to speak countless languages from his years abroad. He is extremely knowledgeable on most subjects and retains information very well. He is quite charismatic and almost manipulative with his words, being able to get into anywhere he wants and figure out anything he wants in most situations. He also has an uncanny ability to blend into a crowd and just not be noticed by others.

Anton Briar

http://blog-imgs-18.fc2.com/9/7/4/9742/musisi00s.jpg

Age: 17
Gender: Male
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 130 lb
Side: 10 Woods Academy, Manhattan Medical Network
Feature: Connected

Appearance

Anton is young, well-built, and fit. He has long, semi-unkempt, bleached-white hair. Obviously dyed, but good luck trying to figure out what his natural color is. He fashions himself in something of an emo-punk style, cutting his hair off near the base of his neck in the back, but letting the front grow long, and pulling all the hair to one side, covering one eye. He wears dull colors, mostly monochrome, blacks and grays and whites. Always long-sleeved shirts and full-length pants, and shoes, never sandals or any other open-toed footwear. He's most commonly found in black jeans, and striped, monochrome turtle-necks. And of course that one, vibrant green eye, peering out at you, with a look of...what is that? Disgust? Indifference? Pity?

Background

Doctor Briar, Anton's father, is the single most renowned and desired surgeon in all of New York. He's famous within the medical community, and beyond; featured on TV programs, and even paid to fly out of state sometimes to perform dangerous operations that the patient refuses to entrust to anyone else. Needless to say, the last name Briar holds quite a bit of sway. Anton can't walk into a hospital without experiencing fifty kinds of brown-nosing, boot-licking, and buttering up. It's like everyone thinks if they can make nice with 'the Briar kid' then the Doctor himself will take them on as his apprentice or something.

All it really does is make Anton want to rip their tongues out of their mouths. But he'd never do that to a tongue. That organ is flawless, and deserves much better than the flapping and floundering most people use it for.

Anton doesn't get along with his dad. Not that he particularly gets along with anyone. But there may be a certain added bit of enmity towards his father. Perhaps it's because the only operation Doctor Briar ever screwed up on was the one that would have saved his wife's life. Nobody talks about it. The news, the media, everyone who constantly praises Dr. Briar...it's like they've just shoved it away. Ignored it. Like they don't care. It sickens Anton. And he's vowed never to end up like them. And to never let them get away with. He refuses to ignore it like they do, and reminds his dad of the mistake that killed his mother every chance he gets. Perhaps that's why Anton's father can't stand him, won't speak to him anymore, and even bought him his own apartment to live in, by himself, depositing a weekly allowance in his bank account to keep the boy alive. Nice parenting skills, 'dad'.

Personality:

Anton is quiet, reserved, keeps to himself. He's a little dark and creepy, but definitely not hostile. He's mild-mannered, and generally not rude, but not necessarily polite either. He doesn't express much, but he does a lot of thinking. And over the years, a certain...obsession...has grown in his mind.

He despises his flesh. His body. And not just his, everyone's. He loathes the weakness and pitiful simplicity that plagues so much of the human body. There is only one part of the body that Anton truly loves, and that is the face, and head in general. Whenever he looks at someone, his eyes land right on theirs, and then his gaze proceeds to crawl all over their face, admiring every little nook and cranny. The eyes. How amazing is the human eye? They are absolutely incredible little organs, capable of so much, able to provide such a profound ability, to display emotion, to shield themselves from harm despite their sensitivity, and much, much more. They are truly miraculous. Yes, worthy of praise. And the nose! The entire olfactory system, the inner ear canals that help the whole body balance, and the tiny ear drums that translate vibrations into unique sounds! The mouth, the tongue, taste buds and teeth and saliva, and the most amazing one of them all hasn't even been mentioned: The Brain. The human head was just full of the most intricate, advanced, and incredible biological systems. And what was the rest of the body...?

Freaking...joints...and sticks. How miserable is that?! And then a big fat pile of gross squishy organs that serve no other purpose other than to keep the joints and sticks moving. It was sad. Truly, truly sad. And Anton hates it. Loathes it. Despises it with a burning passion. It is what consumes him.

If there is any way...anything in this world that will allow him to fix this miserable body of his...change it...make it better...make it more. He will do it. He would do anything. Anything to be rid himself of this hideous, loathsome, wretched flesh.

Abilities:

Anton doesn't have so much abilities as he has a last name that will get him into any hospital, anytime, anywhere, no questions asked. And when he does ask questions, he always gets answers. Medical staff are always happy to get on his good side and tell him anything he wants to know. Thanks to this, he abuses his privileges, and has actually stolen a fair amount of medical equipment. Equipment he can, in fact, use, thanks to spending his entire life completely enveloped in the medical field.

Additionally, Anton has congenital analgesia. Means he can't feel pain. And has never felt pain. Ever. His nerves are just screwed up. As such, he often accidentally hurts himself, which only fuels his disgust for the body even more as he sneers at how easily it is burned, cut, and damaged in general.

Anton isn't exceptional in anything. Not especially sporting, or strong, or fast, or academic. However, he is very intelligent in his own way. Through determination and diligence, he has furthered his knowledge of biology, medical and life sciences, and anatomy, far beyond that of a normal boy his age.

Alexander (Xander) Mifferly

http://moe.animecharactersdatabase.com/uploads/chars/thumbs/200/5688-1052465803.jpg
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Height: 5’11
Weight: 140lbs
Side: Neutral
Feature: Influential

Appearance
Blonde hair, clear blue eyes, rectangular glasses, and a slender, pointed nose. He's fair-skinned, and his build is rather thin without a lot of muscle, but not to the point of being twig-like. He's a very good-looking young man; some fans might even call him attractive. Always wearing a business suit and bowling shoes.

Background
He’s the son of a wealthy businessman, George Mifferly, founder of Mifferly Reductionist Retailer. The store was originally an office supplies store, as boring as it could be, and Xander grew up with a stiff and unstimulated childhood. Didn’t have any friends. Didn’t really go anywhere. Parents didn’t encourage creativity or inspiration. Then his father moved away when Xander was 21, leaving the company to him. He suddenly found himself with a lot of money, a lot of power, and, for the first time in his life, freedom to let his repressed creativity run rampant. The result: MRRRRRR!
Xander turned M.R.R. upside-down, and he loved it. He discovered his wild passion for exploring the unknown and doing things other people were too normal to try. Granted, his ideas… really make no sense at all and rarely have a practical purpose, but hey, people love it! And he believes it is his higher calling, his duty, to bring justice to the land and to use the powers entrusted in him to smite his lifelong foe: boredom!

Isaac: He met Isaac Dolan during his first board meeting as CEO of M.R.R. The man was a window washer at the time, but the second he knocked on the window saying he could make Xander's ideas work, he was hired. The two have been partners ever since; Xander coming up with the ideas, Isaac telling him how to make it happen. Xander doesn't know why Isaac always knows exactly what to do, but he always seems to be right, so it almost goes without saying that he listens to the guy.

Personality:
Eccentric beyond belief, irrational, silly, outgoing. He’s sort of making up for the childhood he never had. He’s charismatic and is very hands-on with the things going on inside his store, making himself a powerful and well-liked presence among fans, zany though he is. He’s odd and nonsensical and completely lacks all ability to tell a good idea from a horrible one, but for some reason they usually end up alright.
He’s fun and energetic and enjoys hanging out with random customers, but he’s also rather arrogant and often misses the point if the point isn’t… well, him. He’s so used to everyone liking him that it’s hard to comprehend why people wouldn’t. He also doesn’t know what it’s like to not have piles and piles of money, so he has trouble understanding how normal people live. He often assumes that they can just buy solutions to any problems they might have. Heck, he assumes he can just buy solutions to his own problems.
But despite his sometimes limited capabilities to understand the situation, he's a very friendly guy, and finds nothing sadder than a customer wandering the store alone. Whenever he sees this he makes sure to either pair them off with another group, or walk with them and do all things possible to cheer them up (whether they like it or not.)

Abilities:
He can…
• Make phone calls to important people! He knows just about everyone, especially the people in charge of other local businesses. Though most of them don’t like him very much, and a lot of them only put up with him because they’re close affiliates with his father.
• Sign checks with record-breaking speed! A lack of money he has not, and if one of his friends needs some cash, he’s more than capable of providing it. He can be reluctant to let it go though, he’s a little selfish with his fortune sometimes.
• Take just about anything off the shelves and use it anytime he wants!
• Keep a close eye on everything that goes on within the walls of his store! !hich is rather a lot.
• Spread word to the public very quickly through his commercials and billboards.

He has rather limited talents himself, though. His competence is in his social standing and the powers gained from his company, not in actual personal capabilities. He can make friends very quickly, offer life advice to random strangers, and put his wacky imagination to use in just about any situation.

Rory Hunter

Age: 22
Gender: Male
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 140 lbs
Side: Himself, Xander when he's on the clock.
Feature: Mythical

Appearance:

Rory is caucasian, seemingly of mostly Italian or similar mediterranean descent, with brown hair and blue eyes some would call striking. He's moderately thin and tall, and most would say he's at least 'attractive.'
He prefers modest but tasteful clothes, jeans primarily if appropriate and solid colors. He likes the primary colors best. Although not religious, he often wears a gold cross on a chain.

Background:

His uncle is decently high up in a firm and offered him a chance at a decent job out of college, but for now he was put off by some details of his interview. His parents and sister see him often but do not live in the city.

Personality:

Rory likes to talk, and is usually a sociable person. Sometimes though he knows what he wants and will work to get it, and occasionally finds himself stepping on people on the way, to his own chagrin. Despite the occasional flash of greed though he is almost frightfully loyal, and otherwise very secure in his ethics.

Abilities:

Rory's tough hide can turn aside blades, but not serrated ones, blunt trauma, or bullets (he's never tested any of these on himself, except maybe the second). It is also invulnerable to most temperatures attainable through normal means.
Rory is inhumanly strong and can take a beating. His form sometimes shifts without his willing though. When stressed, this leads to some...reptilian leanings.
Lastly, he can breathe fire. They cannot go very far from his mouth, but they are extremely hot.

Sergei Zmeya

http://media.animevice.com/uploads/2/22272/454232-changvisit.png

Concept: Sage and spy of the underworld
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Height: 6'0”
Weight: 170 lbs.
Side: All
Features: Influential

Appearance
Sergei is of average height and build, neither bodybuilder bulky nor hipster skinny, or anywhere close to those two extremes. That said, he keeps himself in excellent shape by jogging,, hitting the heavy bag, and other such activities. He prefers to exercise through physical labor, rather than just going to the gym. He keeps his black hair cropped short, but fashionably so. His pale skin heralds his northern latitude heritage. Stony gray eyes keep a wary eye on the world around him, perched above a prodigious nose. He is just handsome enough to elicit a friendly response, but not so much as to be memorable.

The money he has accumulated over the years shows up in his clothing. He dresses in a refined and subtle style. Hand-made suits, multi-thousand dollar watches, and simply the finest tailoring available are hallmarks of his dress. Even when dressed-down, he manages to do so more fashionably than the majority of the populace.

Background
Sergei runs a profitable info-brokering business out of his parent's Russian restaurant. It is almost the perfect cover. Nobody suspects two old Russian immigrants to be heavily involved in the criminal underworld, and certainly nobody expects a self-respecting plutocrat criminal to live with his parents.

Personality
Sergei is a man who, despite making his living in defiance of them, likes rules. He keeps his life strictly regimented and organized. It would be possible to set a clock by his schedule, except that Sergei will randomly change his schedule so that any possible enemies cannot count on his routine to give them an opening.

This extends to his business dealings. He explains the rules to his clients, and the consequences for breaking them. It only took a few instances for the clients to realize he was serious about the consequences, and begin following the rules. No real names, nothing traceable, and he had to have all the information, not just what the client thought was relevant. Total awareness made him successful, and that is how he is going to stay.

Sergei enjoys spending his wealth, but is not so ostentatious with it as many who make their money in the shadows do. A nice apartment uptown, tastefully decorated, with all the modern toys. A sable-black supercar, for when he wants to show off, and more modest, but infinitely more practical, town car.

With a smile usually on his face and a firm handshake always ready, Sergei is a rather friendly guy, especially considering the kind of people he associates with. He has found that simply acting like a reasonable, normal, social human being pays off massive dividends over the usual surly and hostile attitude many in his line of work take.

If one were to really get down to Sergei's core, past all the deception, hostility (when reasonable), and misdirection, one would find that Sergei is both a romantic and a dramatic. His emotions, when they get away from him, are soaring highs and abyssal lows. He cannot resist a sense of drama, finding poignancy and meaning in the everyday. Sergei's feelings extend into his work, for sometimes he will even take a less efficient and pragmatic method to create a grand scene. He is a regular attendee of all the high-brow artistic gatherings.

Abilities

I Know Just the Person: Sergei seems to know everyone. His relationship with them varies, but usually he can get in touch with a person that is both able and willing to help.

Money is No Object: Sergei has investments all over the world, and the vast majority of them are turning a healthy profit. Beyond that, he has stored up vast sums in liquidity. To say the least, he has money to spare.

Clever and Cunning: Rising to the top of the dung heap was no accident, though a good bit of luck was involved. Sergei has a sharp tongue, a quick mind, and a devious nature.

In the Know: As an information broker, it is Sergei's job to know things, and he is very good at what he does. All the plots, conspiracies, and intrigues are an open book to him. If he doesn't know the details, he has at least heard of it (and he probably knows someone who has the details). Information tends to flow to him like water moving downstream. It doesn't matter how it gets there; it just does.

I Hear the Whispers: More than just the facts, Sergei has an intuition for people and situations. He is adroit at getting to the heart of matter, finding out what makes someone tick, and simply being aware.

Face in the Crowd: Sergei is boringly average looking. Once he gets into the crowd, finding him is near impossible. In addition, information about him tends to disappear. Memories fade, files are misplaced, etc..

Serendipity: Things just seem to go Sergei's way. He never loses his wallet, his gun is always loaded, and any car he steals will have gas in it. On the flip-side, bizarre coincidences hound him, always drawing him into strange happenings.

Belongings

Sergei got rich to enjoy the finer things in life. Here are some of those things.

Yeah, this guy is a real handful. He is one hell of a fighter. I don't just mean he's skilled, though he is that, no doubt. I mean he packs one ridiculously powerful punch. I've seen his handiwork first hand, and I'll tell you, there is nothing normal about it.

Private File: Seems to be able to tap into some sort of quasi-mystical energy Not sure what it is, but he can physically outperform anyone else around here. Academically gifted as well, it would seem, doing well at Columbia. Definitely has potential if he wants to go places.

Feature: Powerful

Appearance: Isaac is a well built and healthy man. He sports a full head of reddish brown hair, shoulder length, but almost always tied back into a high ponytail, with a neatly trimmed beard. His eyes are yellow and he usually looks around as though he were calculating something, but doesn't give any indication as to what it might be, except when he looks at another person, in which case he has an unnerving habit of looking them directly in the eye with focused attention. He dresses cleanly and neatly in either a suit, when he accompanies Xander, or easy to move in street clothes, a bit well used, but well taken care of.

Background:Isaac doesn't talk about his past at all and gleaning information from him is nigh on impossible. He arrived out of nowhere to help Xander and not being a particularly notable figure before working for Xander and with no known relations or even friends, information is hard to find.

Personality: Isaac is a quiet person, but often reveals a sarcastic side of himself when he is amused or displeased. He is very tight-lipped about his past and only two things will get him to divulge any information about it, complete trust or the need to survive. Neither of them have come up yet. He is fiercely determined to follow the path he has chosen and will not be swayed by bribes or threats, though it may have little to do with bravery and loyalty and more to do with the stubborn tenacity he displays. However, he is surprisingly patient and submissive to Xander and the wild ideas he often comes up with.

Nora Blaise

Name: Nora Blaise
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 140 lbs
Side: New York
Feature: Mythical

Appearance:
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Oddness_zps87655cc2.jpg

Nora appears to be Chinese-American, or perhaps Half Korean. She's of average height, and looks to be in her mid to late twenties. Her hair is generally kept back away from her face, and for a while it changed color at short but random intervals. Lately she seems to have settled on a deep shade of burgundy that appears reddish-brown in the right light, though that may change.

Nora would be girl-next-door pretty, but abstract tattoos on her arms and light scarring hint at a less-than-innocent history. A cynical, hostile expression (when it isn't a mirthless grin) functions as a warning to those who would get too close.

She dresses appropriately for the season, and rarely has a reason to dress up - business casual with slacks and a nice vest is about as professional as she ever looks. She wears no jewelry save for a golden band that always rests halfway between her left elbow and shoulder. The aspiring investigator is never seen without it, which is curious because it seems to be uncomfortable for her - Nora can be seen scratching at it or trying to adjust it whenever she gets bored or stressed. If asked why she doesn't simply remove it, Nora quickly changes the subject.

Background:
Nora reveals little of her own history, and there are no official or even unofficial records of her arrival in New York - no plane tickets, bus tickets, boat fare, immigration records, birth certificate... nothing. She seems to have a driver's license and a social security number, but anyone digging hard enough will find them to be fake - and further digging will find that things such as bank accounts, rent, and her private investigation license were all obtained recently, with no funds or personal history transferred from elsewhere. The inescapable conclusion is that either a flawless mastermind of information manipulation erased everything about her, or that she simply appeared in New York less than a year ago.

Speaking of private investigations, Nora went into business doing exactly that, operating out of a tiny hole-in-the-wall property that doubles as her home. Those in the know, or those who are simply very good at listening to rumors and pattern matching, know that she accepts cases based not on profitability or risk, but on their likelihood to involve supernatural forces or defending an innocent from anything that would harm them. If no such cases exist, then and only then will she get involved with the net of information brokers and criminal groups that comprise the darker side of New York's glittering night.

Personality:
Nora seems to be a fairly embittered individual. She has little faith in the ability of world or local leaders, though getting an actual opinion on current events out of her is harder than getting blood from a stone. While she possesses a sense of humor, it has a nasty side to it that she's more than happy to indulge. She has a habit of making blunt observations, bordering on insulting if combined with the aforementioned sense of humor, and generally only reigns it in if she needs cooperation from someone. Curiously for a woman with so few resources, Nora seems completely fearless when confronted with physical danger.

She has no interest in fads, fashions, or the latest vanity doodads, though she did set a side a portion of her limited budget to get internet access and a smartphone. She fails to catch most pop culture references unless they're nigh-ubiquitous, and has trouble keeping straight which celebrity is which, no matter how famous.

This is not to say that she has no interests at all. Nora is always happy to listen to new music, and while she refuses point-blank to discuss her own history, she'll talk at length about world history, frequently dropping surprising insights or referencing obscure sources to correct common misconceptions - though she does sometimes get things wrong. She loves good food, good drink, and seems fascinated by major modern staple technologies, occasionally making an appreciative noise when discovering a new function on her smartphone.

Those she's aided on one of her jobs say that she has a softer, gentler, more supportive side, that she could make them feel worthy and loved, and convince them that everything would be right in the end with only a word and a smile. If that's true, she's never displayed it in public.

Abilities:
Licensed Investigator: Nora is a private eye, a profession that still exists, even if it's no longer glamorized like it used to be. Rather than taking the usual approach, however, she specializes in cases involving missing belongings or people, and she's quite good at it. Local police forces - and other forces - are aware of her talents and frequently tap them despite the semi-narrow focus.

Against the Odds: Even beyond the fact that she seeks out trouble regularly, Nora has a bad habit of beating silly-high odds and appearing in the right place at the right time - or the wrong place at the wrong time, depending on who you ask.

Excellent Condition: Nora is never seen working out, jogging, or even doing yoga, but seems to be in peak physical condition, if not beyond that. She also seems to recover from injuries quickly - too quickly. The source of her amazing health is not known.

Curiously Triumphant: Rumor has it that more than one ghoul, mob goon, or other threat has tried to 'off' her. Most have never been heard from again, though one claims to have succeeded - despite the fact that Nora is still walking around, clearly alive.

Elizabeth Sparks
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Height: 5’ 9
Weight: 145
Side: Neutral
Feature: Powerful

Appearance: Elizabeth is what some would consider tall for a lady and comes off as delicate thanks to her thin build, though don’t let that fool you because her long hours of working the family farm have left her deceivingly strong. She has wavy, chestnut brown hair that reaches the middle of her back with bangs and the occasional flower. She has tan skin and vibrant green eyes. Elizabeth prefers to wear brightly colored dresses, even when out of season, and only wears pants when necessary. Jewelry and make-up are both hardly ever seen on her because she deems then rather uncomfortable and awkward, though if she does wear any jewelry it’s probably for superstitious reasons. Her most defining characteristic is her thick country accent. Growing up in a rural part of West Texas can do that to a person.

Background: Elizabeth Sparks, daughter of Helen and Thomas Sparks, is the seventh child of a seventh child. Her massive family lives on a ranch in a small town in West Texas. They have a humble settlement which consists of many kinds of livestock and the occasional human. Her job is to tend the flock of sheep that they owned. She rather enjoyed the job because the sheep are rather amusing when you mess with them, although the best part was that she got to be completely alone, well, to put it more accurately; she was the only living person in the area.

You see Elizabeth was born with a special gift. She was born as a medium, one who can see and interact with ghosts of the past. This ability manifested itself soon after she was born. Her family is rather accepting of it and encourages her to communicate with the ghosts, unless she talks to them at the dinner table, in which case that’s just rude. Her family came to the consensus that she must have inherited this ability because she was the seventh child of a seventh child. Elizabeth’s entire family is highly superstitious and rather open-minded towards the idea of ghosts and ghouls walking the earth. She’s only ever told her family members because she has a deep fear that if anybody else found out, they would lock her up in a crazy house for seeing things.

After she graduated from the nearby high school, Elizabeth worked on the family ranch for the next two years. Even though she was content with the life she lead, it has always been her dream of sorts to go live in a big city and work a real job like those rich people do. But alas, her dreams were shot down when she told her parents her plans. They vehemently forbad her from going. They were under the impression she wouldn’t like the large city or the people who inhabited it. Also, she could also get murdered by one of those serial killers or a gangster. Scary stuff for a small town farm girl. So instead of nagging them for their permission, she up and left one night without any warning. All she left was one letter stating that she left, she’ll be fine, you know, the general stuff. After Elizabeth acquired a small apartment to live in, she wrote home one more time telling her parents that she made it to the city of her dreams and that she would be fine. She made special care to not give any hint of where she was in hopes that they won’t come looking for her. She even left off a return address. Elizabeth also omit the fact that she currently didn’t have any form of a steady flow of income yet and that she was still searching for a job. So here she is, holed up in a cheap apartment, searching for a potential employer so she can finally begin her dream life as a city dweller.

Personality: Elizabeth is a loving, gentle soul who has the tendency to be hardheaded, rash and a bit naïve at times. Having lived a quiet life up until now, she doesn’t really know what, or who, to expect at her new home and seeing as how she has a romanticized view of city life, this could end in many different ways. Elizabeth means well in almost everything she does and something about the southern-hospitality that’s ingrained into her system wont let her turn away anyone or anything in need. Her superstitious nature doesn’t allow her to do anything without a reason and also forces her to think of any and all repercussions that could come from her actions. She is quite the people person and loves to talk to anybody and everybody about anything and everything, albeit some of the people she talks to are no longer from the world of the living.

Abilities: She sees dead people…
