I thought I saw somewhere that if you took a standard action to attack with a ranged weapon you provoke an AoO.

However iaf you take a full round action then you don't provoke the AoO.

Am I remembering this right? I'm going to be checking the SRD later but I figured the playground may already know.

It's a known rule dysfunction, usually just ignored.
