Inspired by the last few oots updates!

So being a vampire gives you a while slew of benefits, some bad drawbacks, and a nasty la. I was wondering: do you guys think that it would be better to become a vampire in the endgame of your campaign, as you get a bunch of bonuses but have few levels actually left to gain? Also, do you think hauling around the coffin in a bag of holding would work, and do you thinking hopping into a bag of holding to escape the sun would work as well?

This has nothing to do with either of my games; Durkon and Malack just got me thinking.

Awww... I saw this thread and hoped we got to fight a vampire :smallfrown:

Personally I think the cost is far too high even at endgame, there are tons of weaknesses and the bonus aren't enough to make up for them, perhaps on a one shot or something like that.

I'm not making you guys fight a vampire at level 4. That's just cruel.

The bag of holding should be able to do those things well enough. As far as the level adjustment goes, so long as you're happy with your current class abilities, I figure any time you want to be turned works for it.

Well Vampire is a CR +2 template so you can in fact send a CR 4 vampira against us; but please don't, I happen to like Artorias very much thank you.

More on topic, there are some vampire variants in Libris Mortis that have some interesting abilities (I am rather fond of the savage vampire which gets claws which deal Negative levels and +10 STR!) Again the LA is extremely crippling and that is without taking into account all the other restrictions that being a vampire bring to the table.

Though on the correct game (an all Vampire Party for example) it could work, you could have the party trying to establish a coven or something along the lines of that and if all characters are vampire you could kind of ignora LA since they are supposedly on the same playfield.

I'm not part of the game, but cruel can be fun :smallamused: I torment my players with constant mind flayer sightings from level one! Mind blast hit and runs!!

Too many weaknesses to be worthwhile. Though there is some Magikarp Power involved if you can survive long enough to become an absolutely broken Vampire Lord (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20021018a); you become very, very, very hard to kill off.

What gets me is that the Vampire Lord gets Leadership as a bonus feat

But because of the vampire LA, none of his followers can be vampires. :P
