I'm not new to D&D, but I have no experience in DMing or building races. I had an idea for building a race of shapeshifters built/created to be the perfect sleeper agents, and named them the Simulea, after plasmids, and also designed on the idea of chimeras.

Basically, the idea is that the race can take on the attributes of a creature or race they touch for a round, and the creature can either be willing, unconscious/prone, or dead. Eventually, they would be able to take on a combat form similar to a chimera, such having the land speed of a leopard, the claw attacks of a bear, and the bite of a wolf.

I also did some research into the Warshaper and Master Transmogrofist classes and found things I liked and wanted to implement. Can anyone help me build this race or is the idea too complicated for an actual race?

If you're not looking for a PC race, then you should look into the Ethereal Doppleganger, from MM2 (IIRC). It's got more than a few of the things that you're looking for.

That is along the lines of what I'm looking for, but the race would more maintain their alternate forms for long periods of time.

Yes, Doppelganger is more what I'm looking for, especially since it's already been converted into a PC race. However, I'm more looking to add the Infinite Variety ability of the Master Transmogrifist http://dndtools.eu/classes/master-transmogrifist/ as a natural class ability. Of course I would have this restricted to only a few things at certain levels, cause we can't have a level 1 running around as a humanoid dragon with kraken tentacle rakes and basilisk gaze.
