I'm about to start a new D&D game, and I'm looking for a good wilderness map generation tool.

Ideally, it needs to be able to indicate mountains, forest, plains, desert, and swamp. and I'd like to show rivers, roads, and settlements.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have used previous versions of Campaign Cartographer (http://www.profantasy.com/products/cc3.asp) before and it worked for my needs.

The current version, 3, is a little under $50. I have seen some great maps generated by others with it, but I never got that good using it.

I use AutoREALM (http://sourceforge.net/projects/autorealm/) most of the time. It's free, quite powerful, and it works well for indoors and outdoors. The old Delphi-based version has a few quirks, but the new C++ ones fix most of them.
