I was looking over my copy of Stormwrack earlier and came across the section on exotic materials. Of particular interest were pearlsteel and riverine, which confer special abilities on weapons and armor made of them, like adamantine and mithral do. I dug around in some other books to find more, and found the blue, rimefire, and stygian ice in Frostburn, but not much else. Can anyone else name any exotic materials and what books to find them in?

I am also not clear whether these or other materials would be allowable for a druid to wear.

Druids can wear anything but metal. Pearlsteel is, I presume from the name, metal, but riverine and various ices are not.

Tome of Magic (in the Shadow section) has shadowsilk, which is a lightweight cloth that can be used to make cloth or leather armor, and which gives an untyped bonus to Hide and Move Silently, plus other benefits.

Complete Arcane has starmetal, which mostly functions like adamantine, but also has some extra effects against extraplanar creatures.

One of the Eberron books has livewood, which as the name implies, remains alive even after harvesting and being made into items. I'm not sure what benefits it gives, though.

Book of Exalted Deeds has serren wood, which automatically gives any weapon made from it the Ghost Touch property.

And of course, the core rules have mithral, adamantine, cold iron, alchemical silver, darkwood, and dragonhide.

Hornblade (http://www.realmshelps.net/cgi-bin/magweapdesc.pl?power=Hornblade&src=mweapontype)(Races of Faerun p. 171) makes sense if you're gnome.

Edit: Not a material as it turns out, but a special ability. Sorry.

Magic of Faerun has a lot of special materials.
Eberron Campaign Setting has a few.
Sandstorm has one or two iirc.

That makes sense. I knew pearlsteel was a metal, but since apparently crystal counts as metal to druids I didn't want to make an assumptions about the others.

Awesome, this is very helpful. I'm sifting through all these now, the stuff in magic of faerun in particular is very exhaustive.

Specifically you'll want this one (http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19569550/Special_Materials_Index).

It's my go to when I have a hankerin' for special material goodness.

I didn't realize this was a common enough search for that! My bad. If this information is so readily available, I'm surprised I don't see people recommending blue ice armor for their druids or gems on their wands or big bags of faerie dust for their illusionists.

Here's a comprehensive list of treehugger-friendly materials/armors (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14916984&postcount=14).
