I've got a 44 page (2 issue) comic set in the old west all scripted out, but I seem to have dropped the artist down a well. would anyone else be interested? basic summary below...

A New York Banker, on the run from the authorities after he embezzled funds from his bank, has made himself to the dying town of Boneshade. Making use of his suit and city-slicker demeanor, he manages to con the town into thinking that he's a representative of financial interests looking to revitalize the town, and ends up with free lodging and luxuries as a result. Things start to go sideways when a local farmgirl starts trying to con HIM right back, the Sheriff gets increasingly suspicious, and a band of four outlaw brothers hear about a newcomer in town, flush with cash.

Any takers? people interested can either post here or PM me, and I can show you more of the script itself.

You might want to specify more details to generate more interest, like how much does it pay for example.

Probably a pretty safe bet, as he didn't mention any pay, that the pay is 0 initially and then half of whatever, if any, is made later from ads and merch.

That seems like a reasonable assumption but, as a business major, one does not invest in spec work without a business offer and a contract. Trusting strangers on the internet to make reasonable assumptions is not a winning strategy.

There's also the quirk that a 50-50 partnership seems inequitable given the amount of time and materials involved in doing 44 coloured and inked comic pages compared to the time and materials writing a script. In a partnership like that I'd want to make sure the potential author buddy had something that I couldn't get elsewhere, like a distribution channel or high traffic website. 44 pages of comic is a lot of work.

I dunno, I wouldn't call it a safe bet. Like Thanqol says, 44 pages is a /lot/ of work.

There's also the question of what style you're looking for, page size and general level of quality.

"Cheap, Fast, High Quality. Pick two", as they say. :smallwink:

Mokay, some clarification.

This is not a comic I'm looking to sell. This is more of a portfolio piece than anything else, since I have a bag full of ideas for stuff like this and zero art skill. As a result, I'm sorry, but I can't really afford to pay for pages in anything but scripts.

Art style, I was thinking black and white as a matter of effort, time, and tone of the comic. Also, I think of it as somewhat exaggerated, not terribly realistic art style. the point is, more expressive than accurate.

As far as the tradeoff for things mentioned goes, Cheap is necessary, and I'd rather it be done well than done quickly.

If I DO end up selling it somehow, hell, I'd give the artist 60%. I'm sure pencilling and inking is much more time consuming than the script.

I'm not gonna lie, my first instinct is to hand you a pen and say "You can learn to draw too!" As 826 days of progress (http://youtu.be/w9pFnX01Bjo) demonstrates (http://youtu.be/0GDC_x_FPcs) this is most certainly not an insurmountable obstacle. And who knows? Learning to draw might be the best thing you ever did. I certainly don't regret it.

However, if you're selling yourself on your writing chops alone I'd want to see some samples of your work first. I fancy (http://lparchive.org/Crusader-Kings-2-%28by-Thanqol%29/)myself (http://www.fimfiction.net/user/Thanqol)a writer as well, and I'm an extremely elitist snob so it'd have to be something special.

I actually saw your progress on arriving in this part of the forum, and was considering trying it out! Really great work.

For my part, sure, I could probably learn to draw enough to make this comic, given three years. but, though this might be lazy of me, I think I'd prefer to see the comic done before my instinctual hatred of anything I wrote more than a year ago kicks in, plus I'm very interested in the collaborative process.

As far as writing samples goooo...?

hm. I've got two stories I'm proud of and currently editing, and I really like my scripts for this comic. Maybe I'll post links in the morning.

By the way, also good work on the crusader kings story. I'm quite enjoying it!

Here's a Fantasy piece I wrote, as a writing sample. I have a sci fi story I'll post shortly, but I have a little more editing to do on it. Same goes for the first issue of the comic - I'm getting a little more feedback today, editing it, and should have a link to it by tonight.
