Hi!

A player of mine was bent on taking the Heartwarder PrC (Faith and Pantheons), which requires Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Whip). So she has a Bard 6/Heartwarder 3, which isn't very optimal (I houseruled that Heartwarder 1 grands Word of Creation and Song of the Heart to make up for the bad requirements).

Still, she has a whip and wants to use it. Anybody know how best to do that, seeing how the whip won't deal damage to anything they meet?

MIC has several magic whips that deal lethal damage and affect armored opponents.

Death Devotion allows you to place Negative levels on to an opponent for a minute/day (recharge by burning Turn Undead uses). The A+EG from 3.0 has rules which allow you place Feats onto Magic Items for a cost around 10K+10K per prerequisite. However, you can only place up to 1/4 your character level of Negative levels on each opponent, limiting it somewhat.

If you're a Good character, then you can either houserule that poisons aren't inherently evil (and then have fun with the Arsenic and Old Lace handbook), or use the touch of Golden Ice to deal damage to an opponent.

Alternatively, use a Whip Dagger.

Flaming, frost, shock, etc. will still deal damage on a hit, even if the weapon itself does not deal damage. So will the extra damage from holy, unholy, and bane weapons, although those are generally harder to apply to everything you run across.

The whip dagger counts as a whip for all purposes, including proficiency and feats, and just deals lethal damage.

There is also the Pyrokineticist (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/prestigeClasses/pyrokineticist.htm) and its ability to create a whip of fire out of nothing (Fire Lash) that deals lethal fire damage, but is probably hard for the character to qualify for.

No they won't; Extra damage is "extra"; it is dealt provided damage is dealt in the first place; R.e Damage reduction arguments.

Really? That's generally not how I rule it, because they deal damage on a successful hit, not necessarily with successful damage. An attack that overcomes AC hits the target, even if it doesn't deal any damage.

I can understand injury poison from not affecting a target if DR reduces the damage to 0 (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#poison), because the attack does not break the skin (or equivalent) to deal poison. However, a weapon that's on fire that connects with an opponent would, I'd think, still hit them with the fire. :smallconfused:

how about dagger-whip ? he can use it since he has ex.w.prof.
can't recall the book.. think arms & equip guide... 1d6 slashing.. other than that works as normal whip..
now.. if he wants more dmg output go for frost, acidic etc.. if he wants options have him use 2 wips (not at the same time) 1 normal with spell-storing for buffing/healing allies and a whip-dagger with spell-storing for those touch atk spells for enemies..

"-Well.. i may spank you often, but that makes you a better fighter"
(bull's str delivered by whip)

Torturous (Ghostwalk). +1 enhancement, every hit target must make Fort save DC 12 vs stunned for 1 round. You can also upgrade it to a +2 enhancement, which increases the Fort save DC to 17.

Enfeebling (BoED). +1 enhancement, one of the cheapest "triggers on a crit" effect, 1d6+2 Str damage.

Sudden Stunning (DMGII). +2000 GP, in case Torturous doesn't work, Fort save vs. stunned for 1d4+1 rounds. Save DC = 10 + 1/2 class level + Cha bonus, uses per day based on Cha bonus.

Flame/Frost/Shock etc would still work even if the creature didn't take the base damage from the whip (provided you hit).

On a not-at-all-useful side note: I had toyed around with a gestalt Cleric//Duskblade using full-attack channels to buff, heal, debuff, etc, was quite the happy-fun PC to play!
