This always gives me headaches.

Thanks to a very late, very unexpected and very welcome birthday gift, I can now Get Something Nice on Amazon.

Alas, it falls a little short of the magic $25 mark. About $2.50 short, in fact.

...Help? Suggestions for some clever two-dollar item?

Three of these (http://www.amazon.com/Speckled-16mm-Dice-Arctic-Camo/dp/B001EULT3M/ref=sr_1_9?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1376624208&sr=1-9&keywords=dice+d20) should cover it. Or any specific dice you like that add up to $2.50.

I appreciate the suggestion, although that particular one is actually $0.85 + $3.02 shipping.

He said three of them, and $0.85 * 3 = $2.55. The fact that it's shipped and sold by Gamestation might be a problem, though, as I think that makes it ineligible for Super Saver.

Filtering for Super Saver shipping, and sorting by price... you could get probably the fairest d20 you've ever had (http://www.amazon.com/GameScience-Ruby-d20/dp/B001GKRZ2O/ref=sr_1_9?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1376641405&sr=1-9&keywords=dice+d20) for $3.99. There are some (http://www.amazon.com/Chessex-Dice-Velour-Cloth-Approximately/dp/B001DR0AWC/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1376641405&sr=1-1&keywords=dice+d20) dice (http://www.amazon.com/Chessex-Dice-Velour-Cloth-Approximately/dp/B001DR2912/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1376641405&sr=1-2&keywords=dice+d20) bags (http://www.amazon.com/Chessex-Dice-Velour-Cloth-Approximately/dp/B001DR291C/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1376641405&sr=1-3&keywords=dice+d20) for $4.99, and there are several colors and patterns of 7-dice sets in the $5 to $7 range. Doesn't look like you'll find anything closer to $2.50 than those in this general category.

I usually suggest a set of these:

Neodymium magnets. (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dtoys-and-games&field-keywords=neodymium%20magnets&sprefix=neody%2Ctoys-and-games&rh=i%3Atoys-and-games%2Ck%3Aneodymium%20magnets) Just pick and choose some to your liking, although they're more in the range of 5 bucks.

Correct. Also, at the risk of committing gamer heresy, I...I think I have enough dice for now.

Hmm, thanks. The buzz magnets (http://www.amazon.com/Westminister-98-Buzz-Magnets/dp/B000PHHJ98/) do look like they could be fun.

However, still open to other ideas. I used to buy books from the Dover Essential Grammar series, but I've pretty much run through most of the languages I'm likely to be working on.

Any other ideas?

Any other ideas?

Perhaps a book? There's tons available cheaply.

Yup, that was my eventual choice. I went for The Crowded Universe (http://www.amazon.com/Crowded-Universe-Race-Beyond-Earth/dp/B005Q6V6BA/), an update on exoplanet surveys by Alan Boss.

When I think of stuff I want, but not immediately I add it to my wish list. When I'm a few bucks short of free shipping, I get those items.
