View Full Version : Spambot rule of thumb

So I was visiting a site the other day (hotair.com) which noted that any post in comments that had more than about 5 links in it was automatically intercepted by the board software and sent to "hotair prison" until the mods had a chance to review it and determine whether it was a valid post or more spam.

I wonder if this might be a useful practice to adopt here? I've seen a lot of spambots and a lot of legitimate traffic. Few posters need more than 5 or 6 links in a post , even if they're someone like me who frequently uses URLs as citations in argument. By contrast, it seems like your typical spambot has 10 or even more links, one after the other.

I wonder whether it might be useful to set up something that would automatically flag a post with more than <X> links as 'highly suspicious', allowing rapid mod action to eliminate the problem.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

Hi,

Nothing like this is currently possible with what we have set up.
