Has anyone ever heard of these? Apparently they were a unique breed that lived with the Patagonian Indians--sleek, smallish dogs that dove into the icy waters, helping to drive fish into the Patagonians' nets.

I came across a brief reference, and I'd like to know more, but Google fails me. Wondering if anyone who's more familiar with dogs might have heard of them.

Google search for Patagonian dog gives this as the first link (http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/36483-patagonian-dog/) and this as the second link with citations at the bottom (http://patagoniamonsters.blogspot.co.uk/2010/02/native-patagonian-dogs.html).

A bit more searching gives me this paper: First Records of Prehispanic Dogs in Southern South America (Pampa-Patagonia, Argentina), Prates et al, Current Anthropology 51-2 2010 (http://www.academia.edu/1455285/FIRST_RECORDS_OF_PREHISPANIC_DOGS_IN_SOUTHERN_SOUT H_AMERICA_PAMPA-PATAGONIA_ARGENTINA_).

Ideal, thank you. The paper looks excellent.

For some reason, searching for "Patagonian diving dog" gave me a bunch of scuba links.

*facepalm*
