SO, i'm looking for some ideas for mounts for an encounter. The mounts will be ridden by a Draconian like (updated to 3.5 and slightly altered for use in a campaign, they make good soldiers...) scouting party.

What I'm looking for is reptilian or dragonic (or magic beast as long as it is reptilian) flightless, but fast (50 or 60) land move speed, quasi intelligent (6ish), trainable, CR 4 - 7, and can carry a medium humanoid and gear.

Yes, the wyvern would work if it ran instead of flew and I suppose I can just say it is a specially bred wyvern variant, but i'm wondering if their is anything specific out there that fits already.

So far my ideas are modified wyvern and the dragonne, but i'm just wondering what other options there might be.

Sorry, I should have said that the megaraptor also might work, but I'm not a fan of dinosaurs in a D&D. I could use that as a template though.

...dinosaurs?bah humbug.

The FRCS has a riding lizard, which should hit all your requirements (I'm not actually near my FRCS now). Has a climb speed and everything. Pretty nifty.

Stony wyrverns would make for interesting mounts. They loose their fly speed, but gain increased strength and DR8/adi

What source is that from?

Isn't that just a gargoyle? Heheh.

"Stony" refers to the Mineral Warrior template, a very powerful +1 LA template from Underdark.

Best I can find is to take a winter wolf (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/winterWolf.htm) and refluff it as reptilian. Doesn't really need any changes, just say it's covered in scales.

Monster finder's in my sig, so you can try for yourself if you like.

There's also a reptilian template in Savage Species.

In the end, I'm inventing the "Land Wyvern". Basically the wyvern refluffed to be "bred" for use as a mount....

No stinger (bad attitude and they kept stinging the riders) and the wings are more like fore legs for long distance running and fighting.

Primary attack is bite, with fore claws secondary, no rear leg attacks (because they have to be able to stand). But they can pounce and get a full attack (plus rear legs).

The riders are Sivak variants armed with Longbows and the leader is an Aurak variant with spells and other goodies.

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting has riding lizards page 308 - and they are here as well:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040313a

The template for reptilian creatures in Savage species is at page 128

And the Drakkensteed? Dragon magic p-113 - you'd have to tweak the stats and remove the wings...

The arms & equipment guide has a riding lizard p. 82. With Sticky pads so it can climb vertical or inverted surfaces. Very cool!

maybe more inspiration in this recent thread: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143548 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143548)

I a making a halfling swordsage and my DM has graciously allowed me to ride a Monitor Lizard (DMG p. 204 - Paladin steeds) But I think thats only doable because the halfling is small-sized

domesticated giant banded lizards? CR 7, have poison and improved grab.

Or domesticated dire tortoises!

A creature from umm, dragon magic? races of the dragon? one of the two.

Drakken steed. Fits the bill almost perfectly.
