I have sometimes used the Insert Link button, but with disappointing results. My favorite SRD source is the one set up by Jans Carton, but whenever I try to link it to a comment, it fails. Is there something wrong with Jans Carton's Hypertext SRD? Is there something wrong with my computer, which is a MacIntosh with Operating System 10.6.8? Or am I pushing some buttons wrong?
I made my last failed attempt to Insert Link on this thread, which I'll try to link here: http://http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294649&page=3
[EDIT: Dang, not even the link I posted in this very comment works. It leads to a page of "Website Suggestions" from my internet service provider, which is disappointing. Can somebody help?]

You've got a spare http:// in there. If you're pasting in a URL, you should delete the http:// that automatically appears in the Insert Link popup, as it will already be in the URL you're adding.

That link is not correctly formatted, it has got "http://" twice. Delete one of them and it should work.

Okay, I'll try out your advice. Here's the link to that other thread (with "http//" appearing only once):

And just for kicks, here's the link I tried to make in that thread:

It's not that I don't trust you. I just have to be sure that I can do it right myself. This is only a test!
[EDIT: It works! Thanks for the quick and effective help!]

You can also, if you choose, turn the link into text, like so:
Click me! I demand it! (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040914a)
Which gives you:
Click me! I demand it! (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040914a)

Y'know, you can always test this stuff with preview post. The preview maintains formatting and links and everything. It's kinda neat.

There are only two things preview fails at: dice rolls, and Firefox's session store. In every other way it is a paragon of utility.
