How terrible would it be if other classes without a lot of utility, such as fighter or barbarian, had access to a feat or feature that gave them Trapfinding that was inferior to a specialist rogue? I'm really trying to move my incipient campaign away from feeling as though a party "must have" certain classes, such as a rogue for traps and a cleric for healing (those classes would still be the best in that role.) Thanks!

Dungeonscape has class variants for the Barbarian and I think also for the Ranger that give them some capabilities in this area.

Trapkiller is frigging sweet. It'd be a must get if you couldn't trade trapsense for improved trip, and it's still pretty worthwhile. You can't really beat stabbing a trap to death.

Subtle it's not, though.

If you want to make it so that other classes can do it, you should probably go ahead and just let everyone with a sufficiently high search and disable device do the job and figure out instead what you'll give to Scouts and Rogues to make up for it, but then, they needed a bit more anyway.

Pathfinder starts to do this for non-magical traps and gives rogues a scaling bonus to their trapfinding and trapkilling abilities, but I believe you still need a class feature in order to do anything about magical traps, which make up the bulk of traps past low levels anyway, as I recall.

As for (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=1121) healing (http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19871786/A_Players_G)...

I'm with Coidzor-- eliminate the artificial barrier in searching for traps, so that anyone who hits the DC can find the trap. Then allow players to use feats to add skills to their class lists.
