Awakened topiary guardian animal companion

As per the title can I make this work (I'm the DM so I know I can make it work if I have to hand wave certain things) or is there a better way to offer a topiary guardian as an animal companion to a level 5 druid?

By RAW, an Awakened Animal Companion is intelligent enough to wonder why it's an Animal Companion and ceases to be one.

In the fluff, it states the Druids hate them.

In your setting and if you're the DM, handwaive away. Bear in mind the amount of plant immunities, however.

It I totally missed the party about dogs not liking them. I guess my problem is solved lol.
