It was ALMOST the end of Durkon / start of Durkula, but the last time I genuinely felt an "Awwww" moment was

Anyone else?

For me, it was Durkon dying. I was heartbroken, because Durkon is actuall my favorite member of the Order.

Belkar's "hurting people is the only thing I'm good at" line. I truly believe he is finding some kind of personal redemption, taking feverdream-Shojo's advice to the next level, even if it won't ever become true moral redemption.

Therakla dying. That really struck me, for some reason.

This. She died at the hands of someone she considered to be a father figure to her, and no one cared. (Well, almost no one)

Not so much a tear as a long exhale; that had to be painful to say.

Durkon's death. The serenity on his face as he died, especially considering that I knew was likely to become a Vampire in the near future, and the irony of Durkon not knowing about either the prophecy from Odin or the letter from home that the MitD ate, made it a pretty tough scene.

Then Malack made it more heart wrenching by using a spell from his staff to hasten the process of Durkon becoming a Vampire.

I'm not sure if it brought a tear, but the scenes of Elan breaking out of the Phantasm Trap were pretty emotional too.

Durkon was sad... but the one that always gets me is Eric's reveal. Unlike others though, I didn't like Therkla so I didn't feel anything from her dying.

I'm an Irish guy, so there is no crying. There have been plenty of hard gulp moments of late though. Most recent, working backwards through the strips, is panels 3-5 of 895 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0895.html). There's something strangely touching about Malak's honoring Durkon's last request.

Seriously... he sunk over THREE YEARS into that ranger crap, and when the new features from the alleged "upgrade" start appearing, what does he get? Tiny daggers. Major downer moment indeed.

Durkon's final request always wets my eyes, especially with the sobbing and choking that I imagine mixed in with his words. But somehow, his whole final spiel doesn't affect me nearly as much as a one-sentence summary of Durkon's last act of heroism:

"He just walked in there and saved my life and got straight up murdered for it." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0880.html)

I don't know what it is about this line, but it's so perfectly saddening. :smallfrown:

...So, I guess it's been about thirty strips since I last had a tear in my eye. Panel 5 of #914 comes close, but not close enough.

Strip #1536. Such a great comic...why did OOTS have to end like that? :(

Maybe I project myself to much into these characters but http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0913.html

Nale may be some evil sociopath, but a lot of people know how it feels to want to be their own man.

Tsukiko's death, It's both terrifying and startling to realize that she was doing all that because no one bothered to care about her.

Not really sure, but i think the last tears in my eyes because of OotS may have been during reading Haleo and Julelan - and it were tears of laughter *smile*

Roy's liddle brother and Durkon's death both got me as well.

Funnily enough, though, I still can't read http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0472.html without a tear in my eye - even though I know it works out, and actually ends up being pretty funny. I guess the idea of a couple of nameless mooks, with lives and names and hopes, who face overwhelming odds and overcome them, seems to capture what OOTS is about - sadness, humour, and a good dose of deconstruction.

+1 to each of these. The most recent one, though? Elan in 913 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0913.html) and 914 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0914.html). Haley's right; Nale did deserve that, but Elan *didn't* deserve to lose a brother. 913 made me sad, but the disintegration in 914, followed by 'I never wanted him dead. Ever.' definitely got a lump in my throat. Elan is too innocent and pure for OOTS world, but the Order needs him, so he has to stay.

*ahem* I happen to be very, um, in touch with my emotions, okay?

The current strip, with the Reptile Ambassador murdered for trying to do his duty and expose corruption; and now not only did his dying message not accomplish anything; now his people, his nation; are going to be invaded.

He was only trying to help.

Poor Gourntonk.
