Summon Undead Question 3.5

Summon Undead I: I can summon a small zombie or medium skeleton.
Summon Undead II: medium zombie or large skeleton.

Does this mean I am open to summoning Owlbear, Troll, Chimera, or Ettin skeletons? Is there something that determines how many hit dice I can actually summon? Trying to determine that with my DM right now.

That may be an old version of summon undead. The updated one, from the Spell Compendium page 215 gives specific monsters to summon. For instance, summon undead I lets you summon a human warrior skeleton and a kobold zombie.
