I was just looking at the magus class and spell list and is there some sort of rules that they use for determining what are available on his spell list? Like maybe only certain schools or what? I dont know PF all that great isnt there anything wrong with just letting them use any wiz/sorc spell? Thank you

you pick anyhting off the list. school doesn't matter. its all about combat hence no real tool spells

Magus spells tend to be a lot heavier on the blasting spells and offensive utility, less on the defensive and out of combat side of things.

They have a separate spell list. And, frankly, for a reason. They are essentially battle-wizard/fighters.

Straight Magus eventually gets a class ability to add a bunch of wizard spells to their list, and it adds a lot of flexibility to them. Which compensates for lack of raw magical oopmf of a full Wizard.

If you want to have a fighter/wizard type cross using the actual Wizard spell list, there is a Prestige Class called Eldritch Knight. In some ways it's superior to a Magus (caps out with slightly high level spells), in some ways it's worse.

Big tip with the Magus: Intensified Spell metamagic turns Shocking Grasp into a very dangerous spell for a Magus, as Magi's schtick is delivering touch spells through their weapon.

There is a magus arcana that lets them pick up wizard spells:

Spell Blending (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/magus/magus-arcana/paizo---magus-arcana/spell-blending-ex)

EDIT: There is also the Greater Spell Access class ability Thrair mentioned but that one is attained very late.

The selections are thematic, strongly favoring direct damage, buffs, and combat utility spells while largely excluding summoning, charming, and general utility spells. That results in a list largely bereft of enchantment, divination, and illusion spells, but none of them are outright banned.

Letting a magus use the wizard/sorcerer list probably isn't going to ruin your game, but it will certainly make that character much more useful outside of combat. I guess it depends on whether doing that will step on other players' toes, and whether your group is the type that will try to take a mile when you give them an inch.
