View Full Version : Travel through the N Worlds

You look about the new world, your eyes darting from detail to detail. You still aren't home. The landscape is a little different than on the last one, while you’re still in the great mountain range “The Dwarf Wall” “The Serpent’s Spine” or “The Dragon Ridge” as it is called on the Three Worlds, but the sheer cliff that had been behind you has been replaced with a gentle slope, the individual mountains in the distance have changed; they’re never the exact same the size of the range varies in some places by miles even within the Three Worlds, and out here among the Nth such variations are only more extreme. The forest that had been here is gone; instead you can see a strange grass across the ground, purple and wreathing like hundreds of tiny feelers. A creature walks across the purple field, about the mass of a horse but with a good dozen short legs and a body divided into 5 segments. Its chitin is a dull purple, and its long, narrow head has two eyes, which surprisingly given its almost insectile body are not compound eyes. A long tongue stretches out of its mouth to lick the back side of a protrusion from its head. The protrusion appears feathered, like something from the sea floor. You can see another creature, bipedal but still vaguely insectoid, approaching you, waving an arm in what hopefully is a gesture of peace.

Looking around, Laura smiled; so, her journey still isn’t over… but at least this world is a pretty one, with bright and exotic colors… which was doubly lucky since she was somewhat short on green paint already.
Oh. she saw at the insect-looking humanoid, I hope we can find some means of conversation… at least he looks friendly enough… the girl raised her hand in reply, showing she wasn’t armed – which wasn’t exactly true, In fact, for Light never left its servants truly unarmed, but, since Laura certainly wasn’t going to attack, that made no difference in her mind.
“Good day”, the girl said. She was speaking in the tongue of her own world, since it would make no difference anyway – and intonations are more or less universal, “Can you understand me?” ofcourse not, she thought, хшъbut at least hearing their language can be of use…[/i]

"Fromwhencedoyoucome?Andbywhatmeans?" The creature asks, surprisingly speaking common, though an unrecognized accent, and rather quickly words blurring together without spaces or pauses to breathe. As it approaches you can see it has blue eyes, though it pupil is so large as to make the blue hard to see, and despite the chitinous nature of its body it has a humanoid mouth. Six fingers, in addition to a thumb, show on its hand. "Andwhycometothisplace?"

The sky behind it is a paler blue, tinged with the slightest hint of green.

So, you do speak common, Laura smiled, that certainly would make things easier... "I am from far away - very far away. I don't choose my path - I go where Gates lead me, and if they led me here, it must mean here is where I am needed. Oh... while we're at it, where is 'here'?" she asked curiously.

"MountMelnib," the creature says, "Yousayyougowhereyouareneeded?"

The other more bestial creature has moved beside him in its grazing of the tentacle grass.

"Light guides me", Laura smiles timidly, "so I usually end up where my humble skills can be useful... is this the case this time, I wonder?" she smiles again, looking straight at the creature

The creature seems hesitant for a moment, as if debating what is the right thing to do. Finally he answers. "Ththemomotherisilill."

"Oh..." Laura loooks down, "I't so sad to hear.. I'm afraid I'm not much of a healer... and I don't know nearly enough about people like you... but if there's anything I can do... even if it's something small... please tell me." She looks the creature right in the eyes.

"Certainly!" Laura exclaims, "Lead the way, we must not lose time!"

Zaydos
2013-09-06, 06:43 PM
The farmer-creature leads you down the mountainside into a valley. On the last world you visited this valley had been a plateau, inhabited by strange carnivorous dragon-men.

In the valley you see trees, or at least as close to trees as the tentacles are to grass. The "trees" are blue with what look like purple feathers covering their limbs. These feathers seem to twist to catch the sun as a cloud partially obscures the orange sphere.

As you approach the village the people turn their heads towards you and you can hear quick paced comments but between speed, distance, and sheer number of voices you have trouble picking out individual phrases.

Two larger members of its species step in front of you. They carry halberds, too large for a person of your or its stature, and wear some type of chitin-plate.

"Halt!Whatdoyoubringhereworker?" One of the two says in a commanding tone.

(going to give you a chance to answer before the worker/farmer does)

jamieth
2013-09-09, 03:27 AM
After quick consideration, Laura settle for a quick curtsy - or imitation of that, at least, since her travel outfit lacks skirt - hoping it wouldn't be taken wrong. "I am a simple traveler... here to meet your scholar", she says, letting the worker to provide an explanation.

Zaydos
2013-09-09, 10:17 AM
"What?" the warrior spits out in about half the time that syllable should take.

"Shemightbeabletohelpthemother," the farmer says.

"Shemightbeheretofinishthedisease'swork," the warrior sneers, "Shemustbeinvestigated."

jamieth
2013-09-11, 01:39 AM
"Investigate?" Laura looks at the soldier with a glint of disbelief, "can you afford to waste any time for something like that!? I want to help, but if you don't want my help, there's nothing I can do, you know!" in the blink of the eye, the girl's personality changes - no longer calm and polite, she confronts the guard in an almost accusing tone. It is a gamble on her part, of course, it would be so easy to go overboard and alienate the guard further... but without taking any risks, one cannot achieve anything - or so she does believe currently.
Shifting into the Wheel of Fortune mode, using the special coin toss for the diplomacy check. I'll emulate it with a d2 roll: 2 means the check is treated as a natural 20 for a total result of 28, 1 gives a natural 1 with a check result of 9.

Zaydos
2013-09-11, 08:18 AM
The winds of fortune blow against you. Despite the difficulty in reading emotions of a chitin covered face, you're fairly sure the warrior is now glowering down at you.

"Andifthiscreatureisouttoharmthemotherwecannotaffor dtoriskbringinghertothemother.Fromthisthingsinsist encethatwetakethisriskitseemslikelythatIwasrightan ditisuptonogoodwhatsoever."

You seem to have been right, doing this just alienated the warrior further and even the worker is stepping away from you, head cast down in what you guess is shame.

jamieth
2013-09-13, 12:41 PM
It's never that easy, is it, Laura thought, but oh well, it was my own fault this time... she shook her head, "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have said it. Of course you are worried, and of course you need to be careful... but I want to help you, anyway. Please, investigate everything you like..."

Zaydos
2013-09-16, 01:49 AM
"Howtotestyouistheproblem. Iwilltakeyoutothescholar, hewillknowhowtotestyou," the warrior says, "Youwillwalkbesideme, closely."

He reaches one monstrous arm down to grab your arm.

jamieth
2013-09-17, 12:42 AM
Well, playing along for a while wouldn't hurt anyone, I guess, Laura smiles, moving closer to the guard. As long as she's geting to the scholar anyway... Why not let the warrior believe he is in control here?

Zaydos
2013-09-17, 12:15 PM
The warrior leads you into what seems to be an adobe mound of some sort. Inside a smaller insectoid-man turns its head to look at you. "Whatisthis?"

"Shesaysshewantstoseethequeen. Couldsheberesponsible?" The warrior says.

"Letmelookather," the scholar mumbles and begins to look you up and down.

"Well, actually, I never asked to see your 1ueen, you know", Laura says, looking the scholar right in the eyes, "It is you who I wanted to see, to ask if there is anything I can do to help your people - I mean, there must be something, or Light wouldn't have brought me here... I'm glad it did, though - you land is really pretty... I'll need to do lots of sketches later..." she says, her words somewhat unconnected as he thought jump around, but, each and every of them, completelyy honest - for the time of speaking, at least.

Zaydos
2013-09-20, 12:15 PM
The scholar blinks their chitin eye-lid as it looks at you. It begins muttering the words of some spell, then another, then another.

"Idon'tsenseanymagiconyou. Notproofofnonebyanymeans, thoughI'matalossastohowonewouldhideauras. Yousayyouwanttohelp? Thereisariverflowingfromthenorth. Itcomesoutofaforest,findtheFruitoftheMoontherein."

"Flower of the Moon, you say? Now we're talking", Laura nods, "Consider it's yours already!" With that, she heads to the exit, waiting for the warrior to escort her should he deem it necessary.
It is only outside the village it becomes apparent to her that she has no idea how does the flower of the moon look. Of course, she isn't going to let it stop her, though... the girl raises her hand and looks at the half-metal, half-crystal, and sometimes seemingly both at once, contraption fixed to her wrist. Relaxing her mind, she reflects the sun light from the device into her eyes... Using the Listener's Inner Voice ability to gain a +2 to Int-based skill check - in this case, knowledge (nature) I presume - to learn about the flower: [roll0]

Zaydos
2013-09-22, 04:13 PM
New to this world you know little of what it could be, for all you know it's a person's name, remembering what you can you know on some worlds there are massive oak-like trees which grow the Fruit of the Moon which is said to have magical healing properties. On another you saw the Moon Vine which was a vine that fed off of arcane energies of a place. Typically the moon is the domain of the gods of magic, and of Thoth the Elder God of Magic and those things associated with it hold powerful arcane abilities and are silver in color. The Flower of the Moon, though, seems likely to be associated with Isis goddess of abjuration magic and healing.

Well, it seems the Light isn't going to be that clear today... Laura bit her lip, But going back to check would meaqn losing time... not to mention, it'll gonna be too embarrassing! Oh, well, in the worst case, I could just gather every kind of flower in the forest... speaking of the forest... it won't hurt to be careful.
Thinking like that, she gathers her inner Light and... changes. Her clothes glow and then flow, rearranging themselves into what looks like a jester's costume, with a thin wooden club, painted in purple-and-orange stripes appearing in her hand.
Shifting into Fool persona, summoning her Costume and Device.

It takes you a few moments to find the river, and four and a half hours of marching to find the "forest". The trees are like those you saw before, more fitting for a sea bed than a forest with trunks like purple coral and strange feathery blue leaves.

Entering the forest you can hear the sound of small animals, probably fleeing the unfamiliar presence, and occasionally of larger ones as well. After about 15 minutes you notice a lilting tune as if someone, or something, is singing.

jamieth
2013-09-25, 01:56 AM
From the top of her head, Laura could think of several kinds of beings who could produce such a tune – from some kinds of fae, both of Light and Dark persuasion, to several undead spirits to certain man-eating plants – though, of course, she couldn’t be sure whether it would relevant at all in this world. From the quick count, it would probably be a smart move to keep away from the source… especially when one considers that even the Seelie can be all kinds of bother at times, but had Laura ever was a person who ever let common sense stand in the way of her curiosity, she would never end up in this journey in the first place. It won’t hurt to take just a look, right? she decides, changing again. The patterns of her outfit shift somewhat, becoming seemingly more random, and the bells on the end of her jester’s cap turn into large dice; and as the girl approaches the source of the sound, she doesn’t even notice that she starts to sing along to the tune.

Zaydos
2013-09-25, 10:00 PM
You walk through the forest of strange trees, noting the fern-like plants that dominate the forest's floor. After about two minutes you see what you think is the source of the music. The creature looks like a beautiful woman only clad in blue-purple feathers which seem to grow in places from her body and make up her hair. It takes you a moment to realize that these feathers look like the leaves of the trees of this world.

Near her feet are two scaled animals with membranous wings and beaks, rather like pteradons.

jamieth
2013-09-27, 03:28 AM
Laura approaches the creature carefully. From its look, it is probably something like a driad, which means it might be the best source of information on this forest’s flowers… of course, whether it would allow Laura to gather them is different question altogether. That is, assuming they would be able to communicate; the Insect-people of this world seemed to speak the same language as the Laura’s homeland, but there was no guarantee that would apply to fae as well… “Excuse me”, she asks politely in the tongue of the woods of her own world, “I am sorry to interrupt, but I am looking for a certain flower…the Flower of the Moon…”
Diplomacy [roll0]

Zaydos
2013-09-27, 02:30 PM
The woman turns to you, the purple feather-leaves that cover her body and form her hair turning a bright green, which stands out with a contrast in this world like bright red on an animal.

"Why do you want a Flower of the Moon?" The woman asks, there is a certain amount of suspicion and wariness in her voice.

jamieth
2013-09-30, 01:02 PM
"I..." Laura pauses for a bit, "No, someone I know thinks the Flower would help cure someone's important to them. And... I think it sounds sensible, even though I don't know much about the flowers of this world. Please, if you know where I can get it... it is really important for me.":

Zaydos
2013-09-30, 01:17 PM
"It does have healing properties," the woman says, "But how can I know I can trust you with it? The Flowers of the Moon have always been rare, and now that the beasts come to destroy them they are rarer still. You might be just another of their tricks to find and destroy what few remain."

The dryad-creature's eyes narrow as she looks at you, trying to read your face for any dishonesty.

OoC: If you had rolled badly on that first Diplomacy check she'd have bolted.

jamieth
2013-10-02, 05:18 AM
"Beasts?" Laura immediately gathers her attention, "what kind of beasts? Do you need help dealing with them? Please, let me help you, too! I'm no warrior, but witbh Light's help, I'm sure I can do something to protect the flowers!"

Zaydos
2013-10-02, 02:18 PM
"Anthropoid beasts, ravagers, killers. Creatures who come into the forest to destroy, horrid beings that bring axes, and machetes," she says, sorrow and anger filling her voice. "I... I don't think it could hurt to tell you where they are." She stands. "Follow me, I'll start you on the path, and take you as far as I dare go."

jamieth
2013-10-07, 02:39 AM
So, someone cuts the forest down... Laura thinks as she follows the driad, there is one problem, though... From what she said, whose who attack the forest are no beasts, but beings... meaning I can't stop them by force. Beasts I could just slay, but if these people can't be reasoned with... I need to know more, to see them, at least...

Zaydos
2013-10-07, 10:58 AM
After traveling some way into the forest she stops and points, "Continue along this path and you will find them, this is as far as I will go." Nodding once she says farewell before retreating into the woods once more.

Continuing into the forest you can hear the sound of a tree crashing down, and then another.

jamieth
2013-10-09, 02:33 PM
OK... need to see as much as I can before confronting them... Laura climbs the nearby tree with an agility only granted to her by the Light's blessing, she slowly walks along the branches in the direction of sound, thanking this world's unique coloration for blending with her costume much better than the green trees of her homeworld would.
+8 should be enough to climb a tree by taking 10; Hide roll is as follows: [roll0]

Zaydos
2013-10-09, 09:09 PM
Moving through the trees your movement is interrupted as a larger tree falls through, ripping down branches almost striking you. Two reptilian creatures stand over the stump, a saw in their hands. They look almost like scaled ogres, lacking noses completely with flat faces. They lack hair, but have a series of long, writhing tentacles that come from their backs extending through their chitin armor.

jamieth
2013-10-14, 02:41 PM
Looking at the creatures, Laura almost sighs in relief, her worst expectations proving false - in fact, with these creatures, even Laura, with her accepting mind, feels a desire to reclassify them as beasts again... she doesn't follow these urges, though. Laura sighs. I need to give them a warning, at least... she jumps down, landing between the creatures. The jump from such a height would hurt, had she attempted it on her own... with the Light guiding her, though, the girl somersaults gracefully and lands on her feet. It [i]still hurts, sure, but nothing she couldn't handle. Standing tall, all her not-that-impressive five feet three, she extends her hand and says with the gravitas hardly expected from someone her size, "Stop right away! I won't allow you to hurt the forest anymore!"
Adopting the persona of Emperor, using Intimidate on the lizards. [roll0] Taking 10 on tumble should be enough to neutralize first 10 feet of the fall, and convert 10 more into nonlethal.

Zaydos
2013-10-14, 08:50 PM
The creatures back away hesitantly, muttering in what sounds like draconic. They hold their axes ready, taking from your threatening demeanor that you mean violence even if they are unable to understand your exact words.

Gonna give you first initiative, they're shaken but without understanding your language they're too confused to know whether they should run or fight. You might still be able to get them to run, but you'll need something to show them you could hurt them.

Also could you link me the Tome of Radiance pdf again, I am on my laptop again after a good while and realized I don't have it on here.

As for damage 2 subdual.

jamieth
2013-10-16, 05:05 AM
So, it didn't quite work... What do I do? Do I fight them? Can't back down now, or they'll never treat me seriously... so... a little demonstration? Something that won't hurt... much... not giving the lizards much time to gather themselves, she leaps up, twists in the air and lands right in front of the creatures, kicking the ground hard with both feet. And, beyond what her hit could realistically accomplish, the force of impact sends a shockwave around her. The next moment, even before she can confirm what happened with the creatures, she becomes a Fool again and stands straight, her pose having at least three meanings - that of an acrobat who nailed the landing perfectly, that of a universal "you shall not pass" sign, and, that of pretending to be an easy target... while being ready to either duck, jump or swerve any moment, from wherever the strike may come.
Positioning within 10 feet of both lizards as a move action; using Emperor's Blast Illumination. Reflex save DC 15 for the lizards, on fail they are knocked back 25 feet, are prone and take 2d6 nonlethal. Oh, and get -1
AC for 1 round, but that hardly matters - it should wear off right before my next turn, right? After that, as a swift Action, shifting into a Fool and focusing Dodge on the... let's say, Lizardman A. As for the PDF, well, it is somewhat outdated now... though classes I am using are mostly unchanged. Here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/5eraarwokdyppze/Tome_of_Radiance.pdf

The lizard-men fly back, landing with a crash, and rising again to their feet teeth bared and snarling.

jamieth
2013-10-25, 03:08 AM
Looking at the lizardmen, Laura laughs cheerfully, "Come on! I am unarmed!" she raises her empty hands to prove her words, and then, by a flick of the wrist, sends a couple of sparkling white motes at the lizardmen's foreheads, "Come and get me! That is", she holds her arms behind her back, her Fool persona just unable to stop teasing the creatures, "if you can!"
Using Fool's Mockery surge on both Lizardmen; Will DC 15 or -5 on their next skill or attack roll. After that, taking Total Defense; AC 22 against Lizardman A, 21 against Lizardman B.

Zaydos
2013-10-25, 08:27 AM
The creatures snarl, and charge, their great axes swinging in wide arcs which miss you so thoroughly you don't even need to dodge. The two creatures loom, 10-ft away, their axes in hand and breath heavy with rage and exertion.

Would help them if they could roll above 10 in 6 d20 rolls :smalltongue:

jamieth
2013-10-29, 02:54 AM
The first couple of blows Laura dodges almost as if playing with the creatures, but the glow inside their minds covering their vision soon goes down, and they start getting serious, forcing the girl to leap back. Her costume redecorates itself with coins and dice right in midair, and, as she lands in a handstand, Laura's hands get covered in a silvery glow... which flows into the ground and, as she flips back to her feet, spring back, showering the lizards in a geyser of dimly-shining wisps, which, apparently, don't cause any harm, though. "You really should stop, for your own good", Laura says as she readies to dodge another strike.
Five foot step away, swift action to change a Persona to Wheel of Fortune, using the Flare Explosion as a standard action. Reflex DC 15 for both lizards to partially avoid the sparks. Effect of the sparks is that they are harmless by themselves, but the next time Lizardmen would take any damage, sparks explode, dealing additional 5d8 nonleathal, half that if the initial save is successful

Zaydos
2013-10-29, 11:36 AM
The two lizard creatures flinch from the sparks but, realizing the full blast did nothing to harm them, begin laughing a horribly inhuman chortling laugh. One moves around to your left, swinging its large axe but only cutting through the limbs of a tree quite high over head. The other brings its axe down on you slashing deep into your shoulder.

They are 10-ft away and flanking you. One missed, and one finally rolled (well) above a 10 and hit for 10 damage.

jamieth
2013-10-30, 06:14 AM
Instinctively covering her shoulder, Laura straightens up after a backwards roll that failed to evade a blow and says, "Well, I'd say I don't like this game... but I'll play it if that's what you want. Mind you, though..." she adds, somersaulting back away from the towering creatures and pulling a couple of clubs out of thin air again... but these ones are not wooden. instead, they seem to be made of the silvery light... the same light as she sparks the lizardmen just ignored and. With a spinning motion, she sends one at each of the creatures, "I never hold back in games."

Swift action turning into Fool, 15 foot Tumble away from their threat zone (see rolls in the OOC thread), than launching my Innate Illumination.
It gives me two ranged touch attacks, and, being Sharpshooting, uses full HD as the BAB for these attacks, so +9. Attacks do 5d6 nonleathan, plus triggering the lingering sparks. Also, as far as I can say, Illuminations don't crit.
Against Lizard A:
Attack: [/rollv]1d20+9[/rollv] Damage: [roll0] Lingering damage: [roll1]
Against Lizard B:
Attack: [/rollv]1d20+9[/rollv] Damage: [roll2] Lingering damage: [roll3]
Lingering damage is halved if they made their saves last round, but your wording makes me assume they didn't.

Zaydos
2013-11-01, 09:54 PM
The two lizard-creatures crumple as the light clubs strike them, their thick hides doing nothing against the blasts of energy.

jamieth
2013-11-05, 02:36 AM
As the beasts fall, Laura, Changing int o her most serious and imposing persona, speaks in a sad voice, "Moon be my witness, I gave you every chance to turn back I could. You didn't heed my warning... now you'll have to be the warning."
With that , she gets to work; carefully binding the massive creatures, smashing their tools and weapons into pieces with blasts of silvery light, and then, to make everyone understand, she starts making a warning sign: a cartoonish, but unmistakably recognizeable, drawing of a lizardman trying to saw a tree, then getting struck by lightning and turning bound and unconscious. Having finished, she pins the drawing to the nearest tree and quickly hides among the branches again, deciding to see what would happen after the creatures either get better... or get found by others. There must be others nearby, right?

And somewhere in the middle of all that hustle and bustle, evoking Emperor's Surge to heal [roll0] damage. If you need any other rolls from me, or something would prevent the described course of action, I'll edit it, of course.

Zaydos
2013-11-05, 11:07 AM
Quick question: what do you bind them with? Rope, vines, etc. Determines a bit what happens when they wake up.

jamieth
2013-11-05, 12:23 PM
Yeah, forgot to mention. Silk rope from my backpack. Will reply IC after some sleep :)

Zaydos
2013-11-05, 12:29 PM
After a several hours the two creatures awaken. One of them immediately bursts its ropes and moves to help its ally get rid of the ropes binding it.

jamieth
2013-11-09, 12:57 PM
Laura keeps still for now, waiting to see what the lizardmen would do. If they would insist on entering the forest, she's ready to teach them another question; otherwise, let's see, shall we?

Zaydos
2013-11-10, 02:29 PM
Once unbound the two lizardmen begin running in a direction opposite of the way they were cutting, probably moving back towards their base of operations. The forest is much thinner in that direction, having been heavily logged.

jamieth
2013-11-16, 04:50 AM
Just perfect! They'll lead me right to their camp... or whatever... I need to know what's going on before I can do anything, after all... Laura rushed after the creatures, keeping her distance to avoid alerting them... though they didn't look that aware, admittedly.
By putting 3 motes in my Costume somewhere along the way, I boost my base speed to 40 ft; hopefully, that would be enough to chase the lizardmen.

Zaydos
2013-11-19, 01:33 AM
That's enough to keep up moving at full speed. How far back do you stay? I'll need a Hide check (at -5 unless you have something to negate the movement penalty) by the way since they do look back every now and again (they're stupid, but they are seasoned).

jamieth
2013-11-25, 03:05 AM
As far as I can without losing them? Depends on the surrounding... if the forest is mostly cut, I would think a couple of Large creatures should be visible from at least a couple hundred feet?
Anyway, a Hide check (with a -5): [roll0]

Zaydos
2013-11-25, 01:04 PM
You follow the creatures for over a mile before they approach a walled encampment. From the distance you can make out little, save that the wooden walls tower at least 20-ft high and occasionally a tower, probably manned, rises from atop the wall. A large double door is set into the wall and swings ponderously open to allow them entry and begins to be pulled closed by several of their kind afterwards.

jamieth
2013-11-27, 07:14 AM
As the lizardmen hide in their encampment, Laura stops behind the nearest tree (nearest to her current position, i.e. about 200 feet behind, assuming there is one; otherwise, nearest to the lizards' base, if there are no trees within 200 feet of its walls) and starts thinking. Light or not, going inside alone would be suicide... and Laura is reckless, not suicidal. Maybe after it gets dark... yes, that can be an option.
She climbs the tree and sets herself comfortably among the branches, relaxing and letting her sight wander aimlessly around the surroundings, listening to the sounds that aren't really there...
While waiting for the evening, manifesting Sensitivity to Psychic Impressions; effective manifester level 5. Not that I expect to really find something useful, nor does Laura - it's just her idea of passing time. Also, [roll0] to hide among the leaves

Zaydos

The nearest tree is almost 300-ft away from the base, the rest clear cut completely. Sitting in the tree you concentrate and you see...

Fire burning all around, screaming. A dryad-like creature similar to the one you met before is stabbed by one of the lizard-men this one wielding a massive pike and clad for battle. Four more carry a creature on a palanquin a dried out husk of a being, looking similar to fried kalamari, its head dominated by 6 insect-like eyes. Unlike a squid it seems to have a spinal cord of sorts. It is ordering the lizard creatures and you see for a moment a tree with silver fruit. They do not merely cut it down but throwing grapnels around it pull it from the surface of the ground and set to work digging where it once was making certain to dig up each and every piece of its root. They then douse it in oil and set it aflame before pouring a yellow liquid liberally over the surrounding area.

Looking around you can see the pit where the tree once was, and while other regions have grass everything there is withered and dead.

OoC: As a note the nearest still standing tree is about 80-ft from the one you're in.

Make 3 more Hide checks (for each shift of the lizardmen watch, just in case they have spyglasses). Unlikely to fail, but it is a very real possibility.

About 2 hours before nightfall you can hear the sound of a horn in the encampment, within moments the doors are swinging open.

OoC: :smalleek: It was DC 7.

Only one thought resonates inside Laura's mind as she witnesses the horrible scene of the past,WHY?! Cutting out the forest for needs of industry she could get - though she would still oppose it nevertheless, of course - but these creatures were specifically after the fruits... and not to steal them - that, too, would be understandable - but to completely destroy any traces of their existence? WHY?!
The distant sound snaps Laura off from her haze, and she looks at the encampment. She doesn't know what exactly happens, of course, but something happens, and Laura gets ready to... whatever, in fact. The previous plan won't work anyway. These creatures can't be reasoned with, it seems. They must be stopped.
Shift into Emperor mode; leaving the costume imbued for now, so 40ft speed, but only 7 motes free for Illuminations.

You see movement at the base. From this distance even these ogrish creatures are hard to make out clearly, but when what appears to be a massive horse emerges, ridden by what you can only assume to be one of these creatures you realize they mean business. You aren't sure how many are mobilizing. If you had a way to slip in the camp might be under defended, even if you can't if you can lure them into breaking up their forces maybe you could whittle them down. Storm clouds are forming in the green sky.

OK, I'll wait to see how many creatures are out and which way are they going; wil let them within, say, 150 feet if their going towards the forest, Also, how big is the fortress, by the way?

The fortification is at least 300-ft wide, probably a little more, but probably no more than 350-ft wide; from this angle you cannot tell how far away it stretches.

Three of the giant beasts shamble from the fortification, heading towards your tree, and the door is still open, more emerging, as they cross within 150-ft of you.

OK, by now it's obvious... they either noticed me, or they're going after something inside the forest. IN the former case, revealing myself, won't do any harm now... and in the latter, might as well try to distract them for a while. Thinking that, Laura catches a pair of clubs out of thin air - unlike the ones she was throwing before, though, these contain much less light ... which, while making them far less potent, also makes their existence less reliant on the agent of Light who crafted them allowing them to fly much farther without dissipating... and fly they do, towards the nearest lizard-creature.
In the Emperor mode, Full Attack using a Rapid Shot. 150 feet is within the second range increment of Laura's weapon, so -2 to the attack, for a total of +4/+4.

The clubs strike the foremost lizardman, and it spurs its mount forward charging towards you, closing one hundred feet of the distance. The other two follow suit, a fourth great beast emerging.

Do the lizards have ranged/throwing weapons of any kind that Laura can see from this distance? Spot check if needed: [roll0]

The lizard-men seem to be more heavily armored than the previous ones and carrying javelins.

Oops... did I wait too long? Is there still time? Going against them directly would be suicide... one I could take out... probably, maybe two. Butthat much... time to escape. Or, at least, retreat...
Laura leaps down, rolling on the ground as she lands,
Against falling damage: Jump check for jumping down deliberately: [roll0]; Tumble check for soft landing: [roll1]
and hurries towards the forest. There, at least, she would have mobility advantage... hopefully.
Since Run probably isn't an option, I'll opt to double move; speed 40 gives me 80 feet, minus what I would lose from jumping down the tree, of course, towards the nearest tree - 80 feet from the one I was hiding on, AFAIR?

You manage to make it to 15-ft from the next tree, but the creatures gain on you significantly (the closest are now ~100-ft distant).
