I'm not sure why you added your strength to the die roll. In opposed tests, we both test a skill normally, if one person succeeds, that person wins the opposed test. If we both succeed, the person with the most degrees of sux wins. If we have the same degree, the one with the higher Characteristic Bonus wins. And if that is the same, whoever rolled lowest wins. (pg 184 DH corebook) Yeah, it's clunky :S

Let's see, you rolled a 32 and added your 40, so I need a 20 or below to beat you.

Yeah... when both rolls are that bad, I'm going to take it as a sign that I was not meant to get an attack in this round, and will thus refrain from throwing good money after bad by wasting both of my remaining Fate points (suppose I could argue that this situation is bad enough to qualify for my Driven conditional point, but hell, better to just keep them in reserve in the event we jump straight into an Angel fight without getting a chance to replenish them).

That would be the "All-Out Attack" option, and there is a variant rule in play that instead only makes it a -20 penalty to Dodge or Parry.
