Hi... I'm currently travelling around France, and wanted to buy a play mat (those with a grid, usable with dry-erase markers). I wanted to look it up online, but I have no idea of the French term for it. Any French speaking playgrounder than can help? Thanks!

Are you looking for a play mat (as in flexible) or a small whiteboard?

Does the first even exist? If it does, I would describe it as “tapis de jeu quadrillé sur lequel on peut écrire au feutre effaçable”. “Tapis de jeu” means “play mat”; “quadrillé” means “with a grid”; “feutre effaçable” means “dry-erase marker”.

If the second, I would ask for “un tableau blanc quadrillé” (a whiteboard with a grid).

I'm looking for a flexible one (so I can fold it/roll it, like these (http://www.chessex.com/mats/Battlemats_Megamats.htm)), I've seen those... but a rigid one that can be folded into a relative small size would work too (like this (http://paizo.com/products/btpy8osx?GameMastery-FlipMat))

Definitely “tapis de jeu (quadrillé sur lequel on peut écrire au feutre)”, then. “Quadrillé” means “with a square grid”, however. Ask for “avec grille hexagonale” if you’re looking for hexagons.
