Here is the situation. Paladin/cleric casts pro evil on a party member (monk). An undead baddie casts Curse of the Putrid Husk on the 'protected' character. Would the baddie need to beat the save in order to effect the monks mind? (I love this, it's like an essay question, but we all have our own answer)

The only thing about that situation that Protection from Evil should affect is granting the Monk an extra +2 on his saving throw against the ability. That is, assuming that the monk didn't already have a +2 or better resistance bonus to his/her saving throws.

EDIT for a little clarification: Protection from Evil will suppress or block attempts at possession or exertion of control over someone's mind via Enchantment/Compulsion effects. Curse of the Putrid Husk is an illusion and exerts no control, it simply shows an illusion that scares the bejeezus out of you.

Doesn't the Monk class also grant immunity to mind-affects after lvl 6 or something?

Interestingly, protection spells don't even provide immunity. They can still be targeted by such spells and be affected by them, if they fail their Will saves. However, while the protection spell is in effect, the casters of such spells can't give any mind control commands to the protected character. (And all commands they've been given before no longer work either.)

Their Still Mind class feature grants a +2 untyped bonus on saves against spells or effects from the Enchantment school at 3rd level.

Well said! I agreed with your statement. Sending this to my DM. ;P:smallbiggrin:
