If you have played Morrowind's Tribunal, then you know what I am referring to. I am curious as to how to go about stating up this cute little critter. The Pack Rat was a rat that you could purchase in Mournhold that would carry gear for you. I have always thought it would be nice to have one in a D&D game.

As an aside, would it be easy to make one for Star Wars Saga Edition too or would it be too hard?

There's already a riding dog: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/dogRiding.htm

If you really want a rat you could use dire rat: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/direRat.htm

You could use the handle animal skill to make a dire rat willing to be a beast of burden. Might have problems with that low strength score though.

I don't want a riding dog. I want a pack rat. A dire rat doesn't really fit, because its more of a giant rat with a pack saddle, then a dire rat with a pack saddle. Besides, any chump can get a riding dog.

Take the rat (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/rat.htm) statblock in the SRD and apply a template that will increase its size (or give it an item of continuous animal growth (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/animalGrowth.htm)). Also give it a belt of wide earth or a collar of continuous ant haul (http://paizo.com/prd/advanced/spells/antHaul.html). Remember that as a quadrupedal creature, its carrying capacity is increased (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/carryingCapacity.htm#biggerandSmallerCreatures).

If you want to get really fancy, have a druid awaken the rat, and then have it take a level in Psychic Warrior and choose expansion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/expansion.htm) as a power known. Unfortunately, expansion is not on the PLA list for Phrenic, otherwise that'd be a good option too.

Yeah, but a dire rat just is a large rat - like a pack rat.

You could use the dire rat's stats as a starting point.

Does your group pay close attention to carrying capacity? Because otherwise the usefulness of a Pack Rat will be diminished.

Tie a Bag of Holding to a dire rat and train it to follow you. Done.

Actually, no it isn't. If you size up the rat to the dire rat's size, you'll notice that the dire rat has a lot more stuff than just a big rat.

I think he meant fluff wise, not mechanics wise
