When a creature is enlarged( by animal growth or hd advancement) and said creature has a trample attack( I.e. a triceratops) does the trample dice increase as well, since it says in the definition of trample that the dice are based on the creatures slam attack. I can't find any rules on this. Thanks!

And furthermore, what would a gargantuan triceratops' trample dice be?

Actually, you've already stated the rule: Trample damage is based on slam, and slam (like all natural attacks) scales by size. That's all there is to it.

And furthermore, what would a gargantuan triceratops' trample dice be?

4d8, per Improved Natural Attack's table (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsterFeats.htm#improvedNaturalAttack).

But the triceratops base trample dice is 2d12. would this size to 4d8?

3d8, being 3-24 is about as close an equivalent as you're going to get to 2d12's 2-24. So 4d8 would be the next step. Reasonably, maybe 3d12 if you just wanted to extrapolate on your own. I don't think they made a d12 version of it. Or if you're feeling cheeky go 5d6 for a 5-30.

Actually I was extrapolating 6d6 since 1d12 sizes to 3d6 from what I've seen. Eesh for mydruids summoned triceratops, that would be 6d6+24. So 30-60. At reflex dc 34 for half. I like that.

I'm well aware that they don't do this for balance reasons, but I've always wished that d12s sized up to d20s rather directly.

Similarly, that d8s went uniformly to d10s, and thence to d12s.

Things lose all sorts of (admittedly often meaningless in mechanics) variety as everything homogenizes towards d6s. Maybe I'll design a house-ruled table for size-ups at some point. To be fair, I'll probably NOT have jumps from d12 to d20. My aesthetic/amusement value doesn't overcome mechanical good sense THAT strongly.

While on the subject, I DO miss monks getting d20s for damage at max level.

1d20 has much worse damage distribution than 3d6, even if 1d20's maximum is 2 higher.

More Dice > Bigger Dice.

I know, but I still think it more fun to roll bigger dice.

I mean, in theory, d4s in greater numbers are better than d6s, but we roll d6s for two reasons: the practical matter that they are easier to find in quantity, and that they're just that bit more satisfying.

I mean, 5d4 would be better still than 3d6.

Each d12 increases to 3d6 with one size increment, according to Table 2–2: Increasing Weapon Damage by Size (Dungeon Master's Guide, page 28). (There's also a version on page 4 of Arms and Equipment Guide.) 2d12 for Huge, boosted 1 size to Gargantuan, would become 6d6.

Yeahhhh, my bad on that one; for some reason I was working off the gore damage. :smallsigh:
