This really does contrast Nale with Xycon. While Xycon has immense amounts of power, Nale has to use deception to make up for his inadequacies, as well as have a highly competent team.

He's lost his team; now his deceptions don't work. He's pretty much screwed.


Dang though, getting IMPALED. Hah, Elan is awsome in combat! Then again though, Nale WAS in melee to prevent magic, and without armor and only a dagger; Elan had a +3 keen rapier. It wasn't really a fair fight. :3

Alright! Haley is back in action, and now no-one can say Elan has no idea about how she feels about him. Truly excellent comic. Also, nobody else has mentioned this, but how scummy is Nale? He was trying to make Elan kill Haley. Then he no doubt would have used that fact to destroy Elan. Honestly, I know how good a recurring villain he is, but if Elan went nuts and killed Nale in the next comic? I honestly would not mind at all.

When I finished reading the comic, all I could do was sit here and scream "YES!" over and over. The Giant has come up with a lot of great strips lately, but this one was the best by far.

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet... :haley: managed to state her feelings for :elan: got her voice back by taking advantage of something awful - :nale: 's attempt to turn :elan: against her. She didn't look the gift horse (though not much of a gift) in the mouth.

HOORAY! Finally, after 146 comics of jargon, HALEY SPEAKS!!! I though my favorite comic was #352, but this beats it all. WOOHOO! (Violent Outburst of motion because of great comic feeling). I especially loved Elan's beating up of Nale. Reminiscent of his fight with Nale earlier, but with roles reversed.

Probably the most important thing to note for Nale's next action; he has very specifically it seems been cut out of the last panel, so that it is only Elan and Haley, despite him being close enough to Elan that it wouldn't have stretched the page more than an inch.

Nale's either running, or getting his ducks in order for an evil escape technique. I'm almost anticipating Elan turning around while saying
"And now for you Nale!" with a *Yoink!* where Nale used to be and Elan looking down and going "Awwww..."

Fantastic comic! Elan's heroic butt-kicking, hilarious quips, and Haley's timely and adorable confession made me jump around the room!

Aside from the awesome story arc, I loved how the panels became narrower as the many voices were closing in on Haley, to show how much pressure she was feeling. The whole thing was masterfully done. Don't ever sell yourself short in the artwork department. You convey so much with such deceptively simple drawings!

I too liked seeing Nale improvise, using Thog to take out a mad girlfriend Sabine, and use his suggestion (and Elan's lack of language skills) to try to get the upper-hand against a combat-effective Elan. He just was not expecting Haley to regain her language-skills just at the right moment to help out Elan overcome Nale's Suggestion spell.

I don't know how you have done it but I find myself caring about stick figures. In a stylised form where the 4th wall is flimsy at best, you have made me feel for the characters as if they were people. People used to figure out the age of horses by looking at their teeth. Hence, looking a horse in the mouth was trying to figure out if the horse was really worth anything or not. The phrase basically means, "don't question the value of a gift".

This refers back to comic #382 and environs, when the plethora of Haleys are deciding whether to accept "Elan's" invitation or not. "Dark Mistress Shadowgale" is (wisely) looking the gift horse in the mouth by questioning Elan's motives and abrupt change of attitude. Haley decides to accept the gift at face value.

Following the Oracle's advice wasn't necessarily the *safest* course of action, but consider what Haley's question was - "What must I do to restore my speech?" Haley's speech is indeed restored as a direct result of her accepting Nale's offer, so the Oracle's answer rings true.

OOtS has managed to backstab triple damage me with keen Awesomeness +3 again.
:elan: was totally incredible with his witty puns and the fact that he actually shish-kebabed his evil twin was just plain unbelievable.
The part where :nale: was trying to get :elan: to kill :haley: was almost too intense. I'm glad this one did not end in a cliffhanger - I couldn't have slept a wink during the holidays.

Rich, you absolutely DESTROYED me! That was so freakin' good; the perfect emotional roller coaster that had tears of joy spilling down my face at the final panel! You played it perfectly, sir...WELL DONE! Great storytelling, the perfect way to resolve Haley's speech issues, and to snap Elan out of Nale's spell. Not to mention the devilishly funny humor leading up to it.

Brilliant storytelling, and we can all see the extra-hard work you've put in lately with double- and triple-length comics, with the week-long daily storyline for Miko, and really stretching your artistic wings as well with shots like the awesome "Elan-descending" perspective shot in the comic before this one (which I used to demonstrate to my wife yesterday, when she woke up, that the Nintendo Wii now had the ability to browse the web).


Awesome, cool stuff. Very satisfying. Certainly a kick-in-the-rump to anyone who got ticked off at you for the slow comic schedule this past Summer, and the perfect revenge on them: to show off how brilliant the comic is and just why it is always worth waiting for.
