Thoughts on the use of either fullplate or mechanus gear for a character that will, hopefully, be mounted much of the time in combat.

It's not a terrible idea. But it's also not a terribly important idea. Here's why:

1) Unless you have a "Share saving throws" ability with your mount, like a Paladin does... your mount is probably going to suck a Fireballl, or be Dex Drained into a coma, etc, and leave you unmounted.

2) Most people are going to attack your mount over you. Mounted characters get A LOT of their power from their mount. Without it you're decidedly weaker. Considering most mounts are going to have anywhere from 1/2 or less of your HP, it makes a huge, obvious target.

3) Mount Barding isn't so important as it's easy to hit high skill check numbers so you can use a Ride Check to make them pretty damned hard to hit.

So as a mounted character you're less concerned usually with people taking a swipe at your AC for various reasons. Using your mount for cover, the fact that the mount's speed can keep you away from serious melee threats pounding on you, etc. You are concerned with things like them fireballing your mount (And roasting you at the same time with the AoE), and otherwise attacking your mount.

So you more importantly want to figure out how to buff your mount's saving throws (By making it a familiar, or a Paladin Mount, finding some way to give it class levels, etc), and effects like Evasion. And make sure you crank up your ride skill to protect your mount from the typical spearman trying to set against a charge and take out your ride.

Bone knights, which I am about to play, treat their mount as a paladin mount, although I would have to level up as a paladin until I had the share saving throws ability

Can Bone Knight armor benefit from things such as material. I always figured it was just the style of armor and enchantments since it's largely constructed of bone and no longer affected by things that target metal
