Gaesatae were Gauls, contemporaries of the Romans, who went into battle armed with only spears, javelins, and a shield.

And nothing else, not even clothes.

Anyway, I want to stat one out. I am thinking something along the lines of a Barbarian, with maybe some ToB levels(just because it's more fun), but AC is going to be a huge issue for him.

I know Monk and Swordsage can give wisdom to AC, but they don't really mesh well with the 'flavor' of a naked Gaul. Plus a high wisdom is going to be a bit MAD in this build.

Aiming for 10th level with this build (but I'd like to hear about higher level options if you know of them). He is going to primarily use spears (longspear, spear, and shortspear and shield, I know that last one is suboptimal, but its part of the flavor), so I think a 2 handed charger build might work, but I want to know how debilitating his AC will be.

Hmm. Are you okay with a bit of magic? By which I mean psionics? Wilder gishes are a pretty good deal. A Wild Surged Inertial Armor will let you walk into melee without a stitch on, and you can give yourself plenty of other fun buffs. Normally you'd be using PsyWar claw-style buffs, but it's not strictly necessary. Then you hit things. Hard.

Low AC? That's just REALISM! :smalltongue:

The appearance of these well-built naked warriors, and the noise of their trumpets and war-cries, intimidated the Romans, but their small shields offered little protection against Roman javelins, and the Gaesatae were driven back and their allies slaughtered.

If you are going to stat out one, remember that the fluff behind classes is mutable. A Monk could be a street fighter just as well as he could be the stereotypical buddhist monk, and a Swordsage does not necessarily need to be a "Swordsage".

If you do use Swordsage for some reason, remember that it only gets Wis to AC in light armor. It's stupid RAW, but still. Oh, and you already have a shield, so that's a small boost to AC. Maybe get some bracers of armor?

I feel the need to link Talya's Vow of Nudity (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45529), if only because it will never be more relevant to a character help thread.

I am interested. Why is Wilder a better choice than Psychic Warrior? (I'm not the most knowledgeable person on Psionics), is it the Wild Surge?

EDIT: This has also given me some awesome ideas about using Psionic tattoos!

Excellent point. I didn't realize that swordsages got AC only in light armor... argh. Not really the flavor.

That is amazing!
