...Hit Dice are something that the class gives you. If a Barbarian 2 took a level of Fighter, he would get 1d10+Con HP on levelling up, and that 1d10 is his Hit Die for that level. The Barbarian 2/Fighter 1 then has a total Hit Dice of 2d12+1d10.
