Hello everybody,
I am in an e8 campaign at the moment and I have a feat I need to spend. We will be level 5 when I obtain this feat. My race is elf, and my class is a scout ranger combination.
I already have more than enough combat prowess, and because the game is e8 the dm is very open to either making feats earlier entry or buffing them if they are poorly designed or not up to snuff.
I have searched high and low through a lot of books, though I haven't had the time to search drag mags yet, for an interesting feat, good or bad, for a stealthy ranged archer person. Preferably something with out of combat utility and it doesn't even have to be related to being an archer or stealthy, I just want something new and unique that makes me go WOW when I read it.
If anybody has any suggestions, thank you so much :)

Isn't 5th level the earliest you can take the Swift Hunter feat? Do you already have an "early entry version"?

What feats do you already have?

Well, if this were pre-campaign I'd say take Wedded to History (you can only take it at 1st level, but it has tons of flavor, good variety, and you get to be immortal).

As-is though, Greenbound Summoning will get you an awesome amount of bang-for-buck. I've always liked Companion Spellbond.

Well the class ranger and scout were melded into one class so I don't need swift hunter.
The feats I tookare:
darkstalker
sneaky (Buffed to give hide in plain sight in addition to +2/+2)
Percise shot (includes point blank shot build in)
Dead Eye (its from a dragon mag)
Bonus feats:
track (from ranger)
rapid shot (bonus from selecting ranged combat as ranger thing)
weapon focus (longbow) (bonus from homebrewed source)

I like wedded to history. I don't think SNA is on ranger list, nor am I focusing on casting or my animal companion heavily so greenbound summoning and companion spellbond are a no go.

SNA I-IV are on the Ranger spell list.

Hidden Talent is always a good idea, especially if you pick Call Item (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040827e) as your power. The versatility of that power is absurd and even at ML 1 the item you call lasts for 10 minutes. Need to block a door? Call a ladder.

Then again, Hidden Talent with Burst (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/burst.htm) might better synergize with your classes, as it's a swift action.

Can't take hidden talent at level 5 and trophy hunter doesn't fit the elvish flavor of my elf character

Consider one of the various feat chains? Fey/Fiendish Heritage, (Aberrant) Dragonmarks and associated feats, and Abberant/Deformity feats are popular choices.

Alternatively, try a Tactical (http://dndtools.eu/feats/categories/tactical/?page_size=50) or Devotion (http://dndtools.eu/feats/categories/domain/) feat, as they give you plenty of flavor and useful abilities.

Natural Bond would give a nice bonus to your animal companion, or let you ride around on a Dire Eagle (RoS, level -3) that much sooner.

You could hire an NPC Psion or Erudite per spellcasting services (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/goodsAndServices.htm#spell) to manifest Psychic Reformation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/psychicReformation.htm) on you, put Hidden Talent at 1st level and move whatever 1st level feat you swapped out for it at 5th. I'd get Psionic Minor Creation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/minorCreationPsionic.htm) with that.

I looked at tactical feats but couldn't find one that seemed interesting for a 5th level archer. Also hiring a psion and going back in time is a no go for obtaining hidden talent.

Woodland Archer in Races of the Wild, then.

Woodland Archer in Races of the Wild, then.

That requires level BAB +6, so it's a no-go for a level 5 character.

Have you considered Animal Devotion? Being able to get fly, run extremely fast, and milk yourself for venom as the situation demands are all extremely useful, even if it is only once per day.

STARSPAWN - You grow membranous wings and are comfortable in extreme elevations.

GRAFT FLESH - You can apply a certain type of graft to other living creatures or to yourself.

DETACH - You can remove a part of your body and use it as a ranged weapon.

And my personal fav...

LIVE MY NIGHTMARE - Those who magically pry into your mind become privy to your most frightening dreams. Whenever someone successfully targets you with a divination spell or effect, you can send that caster a nightmarish vision. This vision functions as a phantasmal killer spell, except that the form comes from your dreams, not the other creature’s dreams. The other creature must succeed on a Will save (DC 14 + your Cha modifier) to disbelieve the nightmare and a Fortitude save (DC 14 + your Cha modifier) to avoid dying from fear.

What's that? Someone casts detect thoughts on you? Hope they make two saving throws or they DIE!!!

If you want a bizarre feat you'll never qualify for under normal circumstances, try Thunderclap from Savage Species. Prereqs are Str 30, Power Attack, and Imp. Unarmed Strike. Clap your hands and knock stuff prone, snuff out flames, and cause permanent deafness. Always wanted to take a feat like that for a spin. It might not be the best fit for a stealthy archer, but it's pretty doggone cool.

Animal Devotion (Complete Champion) is kind of a neat little toolbox. Str bonus, speed bonus, fly speed, bite + poison attack. I'm also a big fan of Travel Devotion (same book).
