Anyone have any advice on tools that can be used to plan out a dungeon or even a world/city map on the computer?

For dungeons I'm basically wanting something that simulates a grid map and I can just go in and adjust the walls/halls/etc. add in some notes about where monsters are and where items might be.

For cities it would be more or less the same but on a larger scale, and for world maps something like mountains here forests here swamps here town here etc.

Bonus points for free/cheap stuff, college kid budget and all ha

For dungeons, there are multiple programs and web apps, all free, that do good work. I personally use microsoft excel, set the cells to a square height and width, and use cell borders, shading, and comments for my dungeons. As a bonus, you can have different levels on different worksheets, or copy a sheet, make some easy modifications, and have a great player map.

For town and world maps, I like photoshop. Fir some great tips and tutorials, check out www.cartographersguild.com.
