Hello there playgrounders!
i have some doubts about reformating monsters.

I want a Dryad (CR4 fey) to be a (CR 12 plant)
I know how to increase its CR with character clases but i dont know if there is a correct way to change a Dryad into a plant (what i do think is closer to its nature somehow)

-is it possible?
-if its not possible...is there another monster similar to what i want?
-is out there any list/guide/site that lists all D&D 3.5 monsters?

Thank you a lot!!!

Well, first of all I would try to make a plant subtype. I'm fairly certain that there's no official plant subtype, but making one isn't too hard - the MM gives some good guidelines, and you could even follow the constraints of the plant type to even it out. From there, it's just a matter of advancing its HD.

There isn't, but Dungeonscape (coauthored by Rich Burlew!) has some suggestions on how to do this - with the example of creating a plant subtype.

You're the DM. If you want there to be a dryad like creature who is also a plant, then it is. Change the fluff a bit, maybe adjust different stuff (like immunities or type of HD), and call it something suitable, such a "Primal dryad"/ "natural born dryad" or something like that.

A general advice for DMing- you don't need to go all by the strict raw rules. Just adjust whatever you need.

Basically use any template that changes your Type to Plant.

Honestly, I don't think that you need to make a new creature at all. Dryads (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/dryad.htm) are innately bound to a tree, I would simply have that tree be a Night Twist (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/mmiii_gallery/83026.jpg) (Monster Manual III, page 110), an Oaken Defender (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/mm4_gallery/98704.jpg) (Monster Manual IV, page 106) or an Octopus Tree (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ff_gallery/50161.jpg) (Fiend Folio, page 130).

If you really want a Dryad the templates to change one into a Plant are:
Greenbound Creature (LE 173) LA +8 – any animal, fey, giant, humanoid, monstrous humanoid, or vermin TC: Plant with the appropriate augmented subtype.
Wood Element Creature (MP 196) LA +5 – Any corporeal creature of the following types: Aberration, animal, beast, magical beast, plant or vermin Type Changes: Elemental (Wood)
Yellow Musk Zombie (FF 191) LA n/a – Any living creature that would ordinarily have an Intelligence score, and whose physiology includes a brain Type Changes: Plant
Blightspawned (Una 59) LA n/a – Any animal, beast or plant Type Changes: Plant

There are some prestige classes that also add in the plant type, but then against you're running into a lot more work than you need to.

Thanks you all pals!

What im trying to accomplish is a Dryad that found a way to fuse herself with her spiritual tree, therefore allowing her to walk freely across the world without a dryad normal restrictions.

Being a Fey with the Plant Subtype seems legit to me (or maybe the inverse?)

Im a bit rusted in the DM area, and i made my players keep away from optimizing their PCs a lot....thats why i want to go "by the rules".

soooo...im checking Dungeonscape and the rules from MM right now.

(almost an hour passed and i havent found the plant-subtype example in Dungeonscape. Anyone knows where is it??? )

The monster filter (http://www.d20srd.org/extras/d20monsterfilter/) recommends the Assassin Vine (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/assassinVine.htm) and the Shambling Mound (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/shamblingMound.htm).

I don't have time to go through my other books right now.

The SRD provides the details about monster types and what they mean. Were you to compare the plant type (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/typesSubtypes.htm#plantType) to the fey type (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/typesSubtypes.htm#feyType), that would tell you how, by RAW, you would modify the base statistics of the creature.

Otherwise, it might make more sense to do some sort of type gestalt? So take the best the best BAB, HD, skills, etc. and use those.
